    Amazing in depth explanation on the FM coolers. Where can we watch the torture test video? I’m curious about when oil temps get too high during hard track driving before coolers. I.e. Is it 5 minutes or 15 minutes before temps reach a critical point.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  4 года назад +1

      The video is on our channel titled "Tour of GJMS in a Flyin' Miata development turbo car.". The transmission/diff temps are not logged onscreen, unfortunately, and it's only one lap.
      Time to critical temps is going to vary depending on ambient temperature and power levels. It didn't take us long to get it nicely heat-soaked, though.

    Great video. What is the weight of all three coolers in the "totally cool" nd package. Excluding alu radiator from website bundle. And what skill level do you believe is required for installation I.e. suitable for novice garage warrior with no access to lifts ( only Jack's...)

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  4 года назад +2

      Function trumps weight in this case. We don't have exact weights of the parts installed, but the shipping weights are 5 lbs for the oil cooler, 6 lbs for the transmission cooler and 6 lbs for the differential cooler. The only way to make them lighter is to use a weaker pump or smaller coolers.
      We publish the installation instructions on our website if you want to take a look, but it's a fairly easy install. You will be dealing with fluids so expect some mess.

    I don’t go to track days but I use my car for deliveries, long days in florida with a variety of temperatures. I recently had a transmission failure while going home after a long hot day. I kinda want to invest in this and see how long the new one last. (2017 ND 8312 miles)

    Question from my side is: What comes first when we want to bundle thermostatic adapter and relocation kit. Is it first relocation it, then adapter, then filter. Or its Thermostatic adapter then relocation kit and filter?

      They all have some form of themostatic control so fluid is not sent to the coolers if it's too cold.

    How much do these oil coolers increase the oil capacity needed in the crankcase, trans and diff?
    Or do they not affect the oil capacity at all?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 года назад +1

      They increase the capacity by the volume of the cooler and lines. That's especially good for the differential and transmission.

    should the stock plastic under tray stay on the car for a track car? does it help with airflow through the rad? is it better to remove it for this oil cooler or cut a hole in it for this oil cooler and build ducting from the under tray to the oil cooler

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  3 года назад +1

    So I daily my 97 Miata, is it worth buying a cooler for it? It does get hot here, and lately it’s been 20 degrees, and this has been a part on my mind for awhile.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 года назад +1

      It's unlikely that daily driver use is putting enough heat into the oil to require a separate cooler unless you have something else going on, such as a large turbocharger.

    I'm trying to shop on your newly laid out website and it got 10x harder to navigate. It used to be easy (choose NA, NB, NC, or ND. Drop down through componentry type. or maintenance items. and done). I can't find your oil filter relocation kit at all under ND stuff. It's also a lot messier now because it mixes all generations' parts together. I'd rather be able to lock out irrelevant models' products like it used to in the old layout. It's unfortunate that I have to weed through weird stupid parts like Flyin Miata bottle openers, NA headlight housings and NC cigarette lighter brackets when all I wanted to find was an ND oil filter!

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 года назад

      We have not changed the navigation or layout on our website. You still select the chassis first, although the search does trawl through the entire catalog as it's always done.
      We don't sell NC cigarette lighter brackets or bottle openers. Are you sure you're on the right site? flyinmiata.com.

    • @twrcrew8852
      @twrcrew8852 2 года назад

      @@FlyinMiataVideo Cig lighter and bottle opener was a joke. Because I had selected ND and yet I'm being shown all kinds of other stuff cluttering the search results unrelated to what I'm trying to find (and a lot of parts for other generations).
      I remember shopping on your website back in 2018 when I had my NB. it was much neater/easier to navigate and everything was arranged in perfect sections. This new layout - while less decorated - is much less precise, a lot more broad-stroked and overlapping in search results at near Ebay levels of showingmeeverythingexceptwhatimlookingfor, and just overall allots less fine control over the filters.
      Old website had very straight forward drop downs that lead to specific areas of the car and anything found in each sub menu wouldn't show anything else outside of them. There'd be no shirts and stickers in the Turbo section. If i wanted a relocation kit back then, I'd be able to navigate to it in the dropdown through ND, into Engine, and scrolling down to Oiling / Cooling etc and find it in there. Currently, I feel like Indymiata Jones and I need more clues to decrypt the code and uncover the lost Oil filter relocation kit of the covenant :(

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 года назад

      What you’re complaining about is a much better search function that’s pulling up more matches for goven search terms. The 2018 site actually had less separation between the models. If you’re navigating by menu, you’ll find the same arrangement as before. It’s using the same categories as well.
      We have discussed firewalling the products so they only show results for the specific chassis you chose at the beginning, but found it was less effective for more people.
      There should be no shirts in the turbo section. I just checked, there aren’t. There is also no ND oil filter relocation kit, that’s why you can’t find one.
      The site is undergoing a significant redesign right now, hopefully the new one will be to your pleasing. If you’d like to discuss this with our webmaster, email keith@flyinmiata.com. He’d be interested to see how you’re getting the results you are.

      @@FlyinMiataVideo If you select ND and click "maintenance" the first 4 items on the list are as follows: MT90 gear oil, an O-ring SKU 04-36023 (for NA and NB valve cover oil caps), an NA/NB stock main relay, and a camshaft sensor for NB.
      Going down the list and you start to see some ND stuff, but also a redline oil for NA/NB/NC and then general fluids.
      I had to really think about where the oil catch can systems were. The intake section of course, fair enough. Then I find a moroso catch can elsewhere under the home page section but it isn't searchable through the dropdowns. I thought it'd be next to the Verus 4 hosed product since they're the same type of item. I just can never be sure I've seen everything with the way something new surprises me in a section that might change depending on what you're looking at currently (or not looking at).

    Jackson Racing makes a radiator/oil cooler combo for a honda or toyota (I can't remember), so a couple of years ago I thought why not Miata? Well I got my butt kicked on the forums!!! I still think it's a good idea. If Jackson Racing is making them for other cars for years now, it must work. Your Thoughts?

      Yes, you need to add enough to fill the cooler and lines. This added capacity also will help keep temps down.
