  • Despite its ungainly appearance, the Brewster Buffalo was one of the most significant aircraft in US aviation history and one which would see heavy combat use during the early months of WWII.
    Find out more: uk.airfix.com/products/brewst...
The winner of a fly-off competition with the Grumman Wildcat to provide the US Navy with a new, modern carrier-based monoplane fighter, the Buffalo incorporated a host of advanced design features, including many to support its operation from the deck of US aircraft carriers.
The fighter would also attract strong international sales support, with Britain, Finland and the Netherlands all operating the Buffalo during WWII, particularly with the Commonwealth Air Forces facing the Japanese in South East Asia.

I made this a few months ago. It turned out far better than I imagined. Once painted it looks really nice.

Like the top opening box. Subject is cool, remibds me of F4 Wildcat. Yes these are older moulds but very cheap and petfect for younger modellers starting off. Older modellers, like me, buy these for nostalgia. Great idea to make these available again...!😀

I recently built this. It's the naval version and not correct for the RAF version which needs modification to the rear cockpit and tail cone to de-navalise it (you will need to do the research) but with work it can be done and makes a very nice kit.

That isn't all. The propeller is wrong, it is missing the second landing light and the oval window in the sliding canopy section, it has the wrong pitot tube, and the RAF paint scheme is not correct for the date. This is just a blatant and botched attempt to fool the UK market. Get the Special Hobby kit (if you can find one!) for a B-339E or the Hasegawa B-339B/C for the Dutch version. This is only good for the US Navy version, but I would get the Hasegawa/Hobby 2000 kit because it is far superior. The Airfix kit is good for nostalgia seekers.

I doubt Airfix would be brave enough to release one in Finnish Airforce markings nowadays. All those little swastika's on one plane would upset the Woke Brigade 😳! 😄

@@johngreen-sk4yk Wrong version for a Finnish one. But this model gives a lot of nostalgia. I built it in the 70s.

I build it in early '70s, not bad, for those times, naturally now you've to build at least some embrional cockpit. Pity that they doesn't make decals for the Finnish version, it was more successful than the Pacific one.

    I built this kit…
It’s not the right model type
    BUT, I built it in
    MARINE VERSION
    Defenders of MIDWAY IS.
    1942…
    Used a Propeller from a
    REVELL 1/72 Wildcat…
The MARINES took the propeller cone off, they tried to lighten the plane for better performance…
I THINK ITS A DECENT KIT
    Even Scratch-Built the Cockpit
SQUADRON in ACTION book is a great reference………..
    AIRFIX ON ……….

In all honesty, I cannot say the quality of the moulds look impressive. Maybe as I have not made a 1/72 in a while it looks a bit janky but none of my other Airfix 1/72's look as rough as this one. But modelling honour dictates I still have to get this one sooner or later 😁....

The moulds are 52 years old, so they are going to be a tad janky.
IMHO some of these classics aren't worth the plastic used, but some people likes em in which case, fair enough.
Would be nice to have a new tool Buffalo in 1/72. There's something about a barrel with wings that I like lol

It is better than it looks after cleaning up to be fair and the clear parts and decals are loads better being a new re issue. I made new u/c doors as the kit ones are way too thick and the pilots seat hangs in mid air with no stick etc so work needs to be put in to bring it up to modern standards.
