    Star Trek is my favorite sci-fi series. You two have made a smart decision to watch the entire series. You will not regret it.😮😊

    Spock feels-like, a lot. He’s an EXTREMELY emotional man. He’s just pretty good at covering it up. Vulcan history is very bloody and very savage. They almost destroyed themselves in nuclear holocaust that turned their world into a desert.
    They apparently only survived because they embraced logic-allowing them to control, and even suppress their own emotions. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have them. I’ve always told people they are the most emotive species in Star Trek. You can tell especially if you’re more empathic in nature.
    And no, he’s only half Vulcan. His maternal ancestry is fifty percent Human.

      Thanks for the clarification! We remembered him being only half Vulcan but didn't remember much about Vulcans or their lore.
      But now we know :)

    You'll see Spock develop as a character as the series progresses. Leonard Nimoy really worked to fill out the nuances of Spock and make him one of the most loved characters in the entire franchise. Fun fact Clint Howard, brother of Ron Howard played Balok and goes on to appear in a number of Trek episodes through the years. Glad you're enjoying the trek (lol) in these early days, you're still in the shallow end of the pool, but there's so much good stuff to come. Even here in these very early episodes, you've caught on to what makes Trek shine, and I think you'll really enjoy what's to come.

      Interesting, I'd not have expected Balok to be played by Clint Howard!
      We're definitely enjoying it so far, next episode (The Menagerie part 1 & 2) already filmed and under edit🖖

    Always wondered why they never mentioned Gary Mitchell again. He was supposed to be Kirk's best friend since they had gone through Starfleet Academy together.

    Vulcans have perfectly ordinary emotions, but they've made a cultural decision to suppress them.
    The 2009 movie takes place in an alternate timeline because of the Romulan shop from the future coming back and changing history. Mr. Spock's father was a Vulcan and his mother a human, as you've seen. Doctor's had to assist to make conception of a child even possible.

      @TheGeekheads  Месяц назад +1

      Interesting, didn't know they needed doctors assistance in that but that makes sense.
      Thanks for watching!

    In terms of budget Star Trek was actually the most expensive show on TV at the time. Sure, considering today it had a small budget, but corrected for inflation it would still not have been tiny.
    Consider this: In a normal TV show at the time, some cop show or soap, you can reuse stuff. A car is a car, a telephone is a telephone. But for Star Trek EVERYTHING had to be built. Every prop had to be created. There was nothing pre-existing that you could just use. Add to that the special effects that had to be created for every show and it tells you that this show was incredibly expensive for its time.
    The budget for the first season was $190,000 per episode. Adjusted for inflation that would be ~$1,835,000 today.
    Today's shows can sometimes have a budget of around 8 million per episode, but they also only do 8-10 episodes per season. Back in these days they did 22-26 episodes per season. That shows you that the budget wasn't actually all that different, just spread out over more episodes, and even those weren't cheap. most of the early episodes actually went massively over-budget.

      I can imagine it did! But it was still a TV show budget and back then this must have been super expensive to do and needed a lot of tough decisions on what they can and should use it on. But that's an insane amount of money for a TV show especially back then.
      Thanks for watching!

    It's fine for me to watch chatty reactions, and you guys have a balance toward talking quite a bit. You make interesting observations while still paying attention so that makes your style work in my opinion. Nice reaction guys!

    • @TheGeekheads
      @TheGeekheads  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks, this comment means a lot! I was originally against the idea of reaction videos and thought of it as "stealing" content. But we love to analyze movies and that's why we do these videos. I'd never do reaction videos if I didn't get to talk about them, even if some don't seem to always like it😄 but that's fine.
      Im glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!

    Spock is human/Vulcan mix. Vulcans have emotions, they just learn to suppress them. The Cage episode was still feeling out the characters, you will see a bit of that in each series.

      @TheGeekheads  Месяц назад

      Tbh I'm not sure what's the difference in the order. We are watching them in the order they were recommended to us in comments and the way it's ordered in Netflix.

      @visionaryventures12 Месяц назад

      @ In my opinion, that’s the better order because you will be seeing the evolution of the show more clearly.

    I could give you a list of great episodes to watch, but I think you should go ahead and check out all the shows so that you can appreciate the character development throughout the series.

      We are planning on it! That's why we can't do reactions on all of the episodes because it would take forever to go through the entire franchise that way. But we will watch rest off screen!

    Good episodes. You guys talk way too much. How can you hear the dialog?

    • @TheGeekheads
      @TheGeekheads  Месяц назад

      Yeah sorry about that! We try to remember to pause when we have something we want to say but sometimes we just forget.
      It doesn't really bother us but we understand that it can bother some of you watching.
      We'll try to keep this in mind the best we can!

  • @SweetBearCub
    @SweetBearCub Месяц назад

    I know this is a reaction video, but you guys talk WAY too much, and at a far louder volume than what you're reacting to.

    • @TheGeekheads
      @TheGeekheads  Месяц назад

      We try to remember to pause the movie when we talk in the future. Sometimes we just forget, sorry about that!
      But we do like to talk about the movie while we watch it, that's what makes it enjoyable to us😄 We have made it so that the movie/show volume gets lower when we talk so that people can understand what we're saying.
      Thanks for watching!
