Hi! Thank you for pick this film up, I've watched it a few times before and didn't really understand it, but this time I think I understood and enjoyed it a lot! I haven't finished yet, but I've started watching The Matrix Reloaded.😃 Which one will you watch? I'm looking forward to your next choice and reaction! Here in Osaka, Japan, we still have a bit of summer atmosphere, but the beautiful autumn has begun.🌰🍁😍 and how is your new apartment?😊

Disagree with nearly everything the guy on the right said, opinions huh? If some of the movie seems cliched now it is because it has influenced a lot of what came later. The concept was utterly ground breaking back in a time when the internet was still in its infancy and computing power was less than a 1000th of what it is now. The whole human battery thing wasn't the original idea of the Matrix, that was dumbed down for the masses who weren't familiar with computer technology and advanced concepts such as human brains being used as processors to create a neural network which was the original concept. As for the love conquers all trope, it may be overused and can be corny if not done well, but the human mind is a powerful thing and combined with extreme emotional states can create miracles. Indeed our existence and consciousness are near impossible statistically speaking but free will and the ability to imagine things that do not exist are truly a miracle since the Universe being causal should be deterministic which precludes free will as there is no mechanism to allow for it. And the fact that we are able to manipulate the physical world through our will and beyond that invent and create the shape the reality we live in should elicit a little more respect for the concept of love and the power of our emotions and their influence over human evolution, how civilisations have been shaped and the World we live in.

Yeah we don't hold back on our thoughts and are honest even if sometimes they are to be critical or unpopular, like you said, that's the great thing about opinions. It's interesting when people disagree and can have different views on things, creates great conversations. And that's why I love when people leave their thoughts in the comments as well. As for the love trope, I don't hate it and I agree it can be done incredibly well. But to me it felt like this movie could've worked without it and it felt a little unnecessary. But then again, it was my first time seeing it so maybe I missed something or didn't "get it" so to speak. Have to watch the movie again at some point. Thanks for watching! - Nyfbie

Fascinating entry point into the franchise. I would have never thought to reccomend starting with this one. There are plot elemnts which I woul;d think might be confusing to a non Trekker. Trouble is all the alternatives I can think of have issues as well depending on the audience. I grew up on the Original Series so naturally the first season would be my first inclination, but I would be concerned about losing a younger audience due to it being dated presentation wise. I guess i would have reccommended the even numbered OG Trek movies (plus Search for Spock) to start, then followed by the Khan episode from the OS to set the hook.

George Lucas was a huge Star Trek viewer and fan. My advice, definitely watch in Production order, see how the first two go "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and "The Corbomite Maneuver". If you don't decid to watch all the first season, then you'll have plenty of recommendation for the best ones.

I am more aligned with "fantasy/whisked away to another world" movies, but I don't mind some of the slice of life movies. With that being said here's my tierlist... S: Howls, Spirited Away, Mononoke, Nausica, Kaguya, Castle in the Sky, Lupin: Cagliostro Castle A: Ponyo, The Cat Returns, Totoro, Kiki's, Earthsea, Pom Poko, Yamadas B: Fireflies, Arietty, Marnie C: Porco Rosso, Only Yesterday, Whisper of the Heart D: Ocean Waves, Wind Rises, Poppy Hill E: Earwig and the Witch

Yeah I can see how Ocean Waves and Poppy Hill are almost like love them or hate them type of movies. I recently watched lupin for the first time in cinemas and ofc the boy and the heron as well, I would rate lupin to A tier and Boy and the heron to S tier. But these are really hard to rate for me because I honestly enjoyed watching all of them, even earwig and the witch to some extent haha Thanks for watching!

A couple other high rated episodes I like are "Devil in the Dark","Amok Time" and "Where No Man has Gone Before". Other favorites for me are "Mudd's Women", "The Trouble With Tribbles", "Return of th Archons", "Journey to Babel", "The Corbomite Maneuver", "All our Yesterdays" and the episode "Space Seed" forms the basis for the second film "Wrath of Khan". Glad this reaction just popped up in my YT feed to watch. This movie is made for people who never watched old Star Trek. Old Star Trek was more about storytelling & used special effects sparingly over special effects used constantly. It's good for that reason & although I don't like how they changed everything away from original Star Trek, giving us the "Kelvin Timeline". That being said, it's a fun action movie. Just don't think about the plot too much! Enjoy the constant action, yelling, screaming, lens flairs & great special effects!

Plus the Romulan at the end who says 'Sir that'll ignite the Red matter' isn't the actor on screen, its Wil Wheaton, 'Wesley' from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The guy-with-clipboard who they get past to get onto the Enterprise is Paul McGillion who auditioned for Scotty but lost to Simon Pegg. He played Scottish Doctor Carson Beckett in Stargate Atlantis and, co-incidentally, like original Scotty James Doohan, he's Canadian (but was born in Scotland).

The original Star Trek was more important to society than most people realize. It was partially important to the United States because it was created during the civil unrest era. Not only civil rights, but it was during the growing unrest over the Vietnam war. It showcased a crew that was not only from different races, but from different countries such as from China and Russia and Scotland all working together in harmony. Montgomery Scott was from Scotland, and Sulu was from China and enson Pavel Chekov was from Russia. Gene Roddenberry wanted to depict a future where we treat other species from other planets no different than we treat each other on Earth. In doing so he started to break down racial divides by showing how stupid racism is. It was not only the first time a black person had a post of authority, but a black woman held a post of authority over white men. It depicted the first interracial kiss. To further highlight how stupid racism is. There was a show with Frank Gorshin who played the Joker on the Batman TV series and movie as a race that was black on one side of the face in mortal combat with another race from the same planet who was black on the other side of the face. It was because of Star Trek that we have such inventions as sliding grocery doors, cell phones and vitals monitors in hospitals. Star Trek was the inspiration for a lot of inventions we take for granted including FaceTime.😊 When I was in college, or what you guys call university I had a creative writing class and the professors often used Star Trek as a teaching tool.

All of that is so awesome, makes me respect the show even more! I've read surprising lot from the civil unrest era because I love a lot of the music from that era like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Nina Simone or Sam Cooke to name a few. And all the different innovations that Star Trek has inspired, that's so cool! I bet George Lucas took also a lot of inspiration to SW from ST. Truly a first of its kind. And I'm in a university right now! No references to ST from my professors as of yet though haha. Thanks for watching! ~ Nyfbie

@@TheGeekheads Maybe you could educate your professor about ST. There are a lot of historical videos on RUclips about it.

As some have already commented, this first pilot (which was rejected by the network) can’t be said to truly be representative of The Original Series: the feel, and the cast are too different. If you decide that you’re only going to watch a limited number of episodes in the original series (rather than starting at the beginning and working your way through), then to have the best “return on your investment,” you ought to watch the best of the best episodes. My vote for the top ten: - The City on the Edge of Forever (Season 1, Episode 28 S1 E 28) - Amok Time (S 2 E 1) - Mirror, Mirror (S 2 E 4) - Journey To Babel (S 2 E 10) - The Enterprise Incident (S 3 E 2) - The Enemy Within (S 1 E 5) - The Trouble With Tribbles (S 2 E 15) - Obsession (S 2 E 13) - The Conscience Of The King (S 1 E 13) - The Squire Of Gothos (S 1 E 17) Another thought: While the first pilot, “The Cage” failed to sell the series to the network, it is actually the most ‘dead-on accurate’ of any episode, in terms of predicting where the future was headed: Talos used to be a living world, but is now a dead one, with a dying race temporarily clinging to life, underground. The Talosians are preoccupied with reliving the dreams and memories of ancestors and of other life forms - “They watch you react, to feel your emotions…” How is that different from RUclips reaction videos, and we, who watch them? The Talosians can’t rebuild their own society, but must try to do it “second-hand” by stealing other species and ‘guiding’ them. Western societies today, can’t maintain their birth rates, and are counting on immigrants from other parts of the world, to make up the difference. But most other parts of the world, now have below-replacement birth rates themselves. The Talosians find that humans don’t fit in with their plans after all - something that Western societies seem to be likewise discovering about their hoped-for rescuers. In the end, Talosians are going to perish as a species and as a civilization; The humans of Star Trek, still have a chance to live, as long as they choose as a civilization to embrace life, exploration, building and creating - rather than retreating into dreams and illusions - whether they be on the Holodeck, alien mind-control, RUclips reaction rabbit-holes, or VR-gaming and the like. Humans also need to make the kind of society where ordinary men and women continue to decide, "Yes, this way of life is worth living, and this society is worth preserving." We've got our work cut out for us.

Some very interesting points you've made, this pilot sure had a lot that you can compare to our world. We do need to get rid of all the unimportant noise and bs and focus on the important and positive parts of life. But it's easier said than done, we as humans are easily corrupted to become selfish and greedy by money and power. Maybe we can slowly make this world a better place though, gotta keep the hope alive or we are truly lost. And that's what the best movies and shows give us, hope. That's what I appreciate about them the most :) And thanks for the list of episodes, appreciate it since we can't do reactions to every single episode. But we are going to watch off screen all the rest, no worries. Just wanted to see which episodes you wanted us to react to the most! Thanks for watching! ~Nyfbie

Notice to other fans: This contains zero spoilers, don't even try. It is mostly production information which does not spoil any story elements. Besides, they've already seen the JJ movie, so the damage is done. lol Guys, this is long, but packed with unnecessary but fun detail you will want to know, I promise! ;-] You were curious about Spock, whose job here is Science Officer. You wondered why the woman, Number One, was in charge instead of him. That is not her name, "Number One" is a nickname for her job description... she holds the rank of Commander, and is the Fist Officer on the ship (officer number #1, get it?). When the captain isn't present, she is in command. But your confusion is understandable. This story happens in the past in relation to what you already know of him, so Spock was just a young science officer, with the rank of Lieutenant, back then. When you first see him in the movie, it's years later and he's already the first officer of the ship, still working under Capt. Pike. How and why a few things changed: When this TV pilot was not accepted, they were encouraged to make another attempt... a second pilot. The network said that this was a little too "cerebral" for the average audience. They also suggested to the producers that in their second pilot, they should get rid of the "guy with the ears" and, they added, no one would believe or accept a woman on the bridge, much less one with authority. May not be exact words, but it was something like that. The creator of the show, Gene Roddenberry, didn't want to get rid of both, so he compromised. He combined the two characters of Spock and Number One, into a single character. Spock became the serious, no-nonsense, seemingly emotionless alien, taking on some of her traits, and the character inherited her position as first officer. Years later, in an interview about the choice of Spock or Number One, Gene joked that he kept one of them on the show and married the other -- by the time of the interview, the actress who played Number One had become his wife, Majel Barrett Roddenberry. ;-] Oh, and since you asked: It is essential to have seen the episode "Space Seed" before you see the second film, the one from 1982 (ST II: The Wrath of Kahn) because it obviously concerns a person, and you need to know who that person is... ;-] If you're interested, the second pilot is the episode called: "Where No Man Has Gone Before". It was not broadcast first on TV, so on some lists it might appear as episode 3, or something. Cheers from Canada!

Tells even more how ahead of his time Gene was with Star Trek. Sad that they didn't allow woman to be in a high rank on the show, but different times. Thanks for the suggestions. Cheers! 🇫🇮🤝🇨🇦

Well, this episode has no relation to the first JJ movie, as the first JJ movie is an alternate timeline.

as someone that grew up with these newer movies but has since gone back to watch the original series, I think the newer movies (the kelvin timeline) are great, and can easily be enjoyed by those who have never watched star trek before however after watching the original series, I can see why some fans might not like them as some of the characterization and tone of the story as a whole is definitely different. for example the spock/uhura romance was never a thing in the original series and feels kind of shoehorned in just to have some kind of romance to sell. the original series was also a sort of silly, monster of the week type show that didnt take itself too seriously imo, whereas the new movies definitely fit into a more steriotypical action/adventure movie format honestly i think both are great for what they are, but for older fans that wanted the new movies to be like the original series, i understand why they were disappointed!

Yes, this is kind of how I understood the situation! Might be a hot take but maybe it's even better to watch these movies first so you don't have any expectations for them created by the original series and movies, and so perhaps it's easier to enjoy them better for what they are🤔

Fun fact: Bill Pullman played Lone Starr, his Winnebago space ship is called “Eagle 5”, which is the same pilot name given to Bill Pullmans character as the President in Independence Day.
