You seem really productive but how do you relax? What do you do exactly to prevent yourself from burn out? It’s nice that you constantly want to improve yourself but if you don’t make time to relax I feel like you’re just gonna over exhaust yourself. What do you do to prevent yourself from over exhaustion?

Desiree Ortega good question! I’m curious too! I remember being super busy all the time in college and I literally had to schedule in time for naps, TV time and meals! I wonder if Jenn schedules in time to chill.

Do not call your journal unimportant. Every little thing in your daily routine leads up to your successes and failures, so if you become uber-successful and people ask how you did it, the first thing they should look at is your daily routine.
Here are a few things I've done--they're not on a to-do list everyday but they're part of the common sense most of us took for granted:
      1. Master the mundane. Life becomes SO MUCH EASIER once you do.
      2. Become informed on current issues so you can contribute to the conversation if it ever comes up.
      3. In a group, be the active listener. Eventually, someone will ask for your input and you'll have everyone's undivided attention.
      4. Surround yourself with successful people.
      5. Your health is very important. You cannot enjoy life without good health.
Your tips are what I've used but here's a video I also watch every day:
      ruclips.net/video/VkYJIvGYPPc/видео.html
This man used to live in a garage in Santa Ana on food stamps. He has become so successful since then. This video is also like a pep talk but it sets the tone for my day.

I swear by the Passion Planner! A friend of mine gave me one 3 years ago and it completely changed my life. It helps me stay focused, positive, grateful, and organized without being overwhelmed. It’s my go-to gift for friends because it’s practical and positive. Writing things down is key. Putting things in my phone doesn’t work for me. I have to physically write things down if I want to remember and accomplish anything. I like how the passion planner gives me small challenges each week like “substitute sugary drinks with water instead” or “think of someone who has helped you through a tough time and send a thank you letter by the end of the week” etc. it also has reflections pages at the end of each month that help me track my progress, remind me of the good times , reflect on who inspired/helped me and help me make a plan on how to tackle the next month better! I am not sponsored by passion Planner I swear.haha. It’s just been such a lifesaver. I highly recommend it!

If I ever need a document I can pull it out from Google Drive and send it out without using my laptop/computer. These are such great tips!!! One of my biggest productivity tip is setting alarms for the things in your schedule. I don’t know if it’s a weird tip but for me, when I’m working on something I tend to get sucked into that world and forget about time. So what I do is I set a duration on my timer app for that particular item on my to-do list. That way, I have enough time to complete the other tasks on my list.

Hi Jenn, thank you for these tips! I’ve been struggling at getting my life on track, and these are some of the best advice I’ve heard so far. A lot of other RUclips videos on productivity are repetitive, so I really appreciate that you are constantly gleaning new information from other sources like podcasts and books to share with us. I don’t have a sense of urgency and I never realized that until a TA pointed it out and when I reflect on why I constantly fall behind academically it’s usually because of that. Your point of “Don’t Flake on Yourself” really hits home because I’m always putting myself off when I should be putting myself first. Thank you for your amazing videos and for being an all around amazing person 💕

You know what, being at an internship, I see where people slip in values whether it's caring too much about work and neglecting their friends or being too care-free about their career and just focusing on social aspects. For the past five years, you have always been my role model in terms of maintaining different sectors of life. I have always remembered how you prioritized the social, the career, and personal/mental boxes. Not going to lie, my productivity is suffering and today I was feeling extremely demotivated and insecure. Seeing this video on my feed and your fresh face and knowing that I follow a lot of your habits made me feel right up on my feet again. I know I don't get around to responding as much, but wow, you do a constantly amazing job of keeping your audience not only informed on fashion trends but also how they can be the best versions of themselves. That kind of care does not go unnoticed. Thanks for being that semi-parasocial older sister.

for those that have multiple important things to tackle in the day, one thing that I like doing is setting a 24 hr timetable and planning by the hour. the tasks that take a while to finish can be spread out on the timetable for however long you want it to be. establishing a general idea of when and how long it would take to complete those tasks is one way to boost your productivity while also giving you that 'sense of urgency'. and this system personally helped me gain control of how to manage my time in the day, especially in college!

I just started planning more now esp organizing my stuffs. I would plan out everything the previous day esp my errand trips and write a checklist on my phone so I do not forget. I learned that from a friend which have helped me out tremendously. It was a habit that I slowly incorporate into my life. The good thing was it helped me think more effectively ex. usually for my culture we always prepare everything on the big day which is really stressful. Instead, I advised my family we should clean the house and prep what we need a few days before so that on the big day, we don't have to wake up super early just to do it. It just makes life easier for everyone. I also barely check social media now because it is just a distraction and waste of time :)

It's great and if I don't get a reminder done it just gets added to the next day automatically as it's not an "event" really great for people like me who want their to do list and thir events in the same app. It sounds like the goals part would also work well for you with the long term goals you mentioned.

I, personally, like to make tasks 'smaller' by listing all the little things to tick under the big task.
For example: cleaning out the closet
You can put underneath that the taking out the clothes, segregating them into piles (keep, donate or sell), folding and arranging them back into the closet
I think it's rewarding to tick off boxes so when I spread out the task it makes me feel like I'm doing well.

  • @missALEX178
    @missALEX178 6 лет назад

I have found when making a list, to put down "make a to do list" as the very first task; this is so you already can start off the list with an accomplishment. Just checking off a simple task like making the actual list is a great way to get things started! Great tips Jenn, thank you!!

I REEEEALLY needed this. I just moved out for the first time at the age of 18, and I am overwhelmed with what to do first and when. Sometimes I stop in the middle of a task to do something else and sometimes I just stop completely and just start overthinking and stressing and it's just awful! The part about being a reliable person really hit me hard. Because it doesn't only effect everybody around me, but also myself, I feel like i'm out of control and when I have to do something difficult I start procrastinating and getting overwhelmed and these stupid excuses come up in my mind and i end up believing them. And I just really shouldn't, but damn, the bad stuff has become a habit for me know! So thank you for motivating me, I will try to do everything you do, until I find my own routine. Thank you for getting my spontaneous unreliable ass motivated, love you Jenn

Cal Newport recommends creating a timeline for your day, which I find super helpful in completing/scheduling tasks. The set up is simple - using the tasks you have for your day, just write down how long you think each one will take. Always leave an hour for meals and give yourself a break every 30min-1hr.
The best part about this is that it only takes 5 minutes to do, so it could be something you create every morning before starting your day.
    here's a quick example:
    timeline:
7am: wake up, morning routine things to remember:
8-930am: dr appt dr appt 8am
    930-1030am: breakfast study for chem!
    10-11am: study chem laundry
meditation break: 11-1130 create outline for learning guitar
    1130am-12pm: study
    12-1pm: laundry
    1-2pm: lunch
he gives more extensive explanations and examples in his book How to Become a Straight A Student, but thats the basic gist. I think the timeline helps give a more realistic outline for your day instead of only using a list. anything you cant schedule that day from "things to remember" can be pushed to the next day, so definitely prioritize the more time sensitive stuff.
Hope you're doing well Jenn! I have loved watching your videos for over 5 years now - you are my favorite youtuber and a big inspiration to me, especially because we are both Korean American :) If you try this out, please let me know what you think!

New to your channel and I already love how straightforward you are. Not only did you give some great tips, but you also referenced the podcast. I thought that was a nice little touch since many people probably didn't know about it.

Thanks for making this video Jenn! I've always been bad at planning and finishing tasks by the deadline. But since I'm working, in school, starting a small business on etsy, and maintaining a social life, I've realized how important it is to be organized and plan ahead. This definitely motivates me more to be organized and dedicated!

This kind of video is sooo helpful to me
I always feel frustated at the end of the day regretting things.. I’ve tried several times planning things but each time I end up with pressure that I have to do all the things I’ve planned😭
Maybe through your advice I could manage my own time and be ready for
    everyday with positive mind
    Thank you Jenn! Love you💕💕

LOVE your tips and how you stay organized. I do mostly the same, except I don't use a planner or app. I have six stickies permanently open....and plans until 2020. 😂 I've been working on not packing on too much and preventing unnecessary anxiety attacks. Thanks for the reminders! ❤

Love the idea of setting a timer for 20 minutes to start a project! I'm an animator and video editor, and starting a project is definitely the hardest part for me, too. Committing to 20 minutes makes a lofty goal feel much more attainable. Thanks for the tip :)

I would love a video on goal-setting... how do you determine what you value and want to make a part of your life in the future? How do you decide what steps to take to get there?
