I’ve been watching the Sidemen ever since 2015 and it’s honestly amazing that they’ve adapted to the type of content I and others want to watch. Their dynamic is so good as well that you want to keep watching no matter what they do.
i still remeber my first sidemen video. which was the playing Sardines in a mansion, with JJ hiding in a theatre room playing sidemen videos. And JJ fell asleep
I was watching vikk first with his montages. Then I found jj and Simon. I feel like I knew of one of the Cals but not sure.
It’s amazing how they came together and are still amazing with little to no dilemma

Nah I think you probably went to a private school and failed to grow up. Their content lacks growing up with their audience and honestly peaks when a member of beta squad is in their videos. No Sidemen bangers without guests in the last year.
Some notes for anyone who’s interested:
-They were never “sidemen” to another group, Simon was the sidemen to JJ as he showed up and was the cameraman in many videos and then Tobi was the sideman in Zerkaa’s videos. Once they gained Ethan they were throwing around group names and decided on Sidemen due to this fact.
-The main sidemen channel only existed to prove to RUclips that they could do well with a RUclips original and RUclips wanted a main channel to put it on rather than the individual channels.

I always find it interesting how Americans are so in their own bubble that even some American youtubers and streamers, who work in the same field as the sidemen, often don't know about them and how huge they are
I think the key to their success is two things:
- consistency with uploads, they haven't missed a sidemen Sunday ever I think, and also upload consistently on the other channels
- they are just a bunch of real genuine friends hanging out and doing several different activities and filming it , cuz at the end of the day, it's their dynamic and banter that makes the videos interesting
technically they only missed one sunday bc they had to upload on the monday bc of editing issues i think
been watching these guys for over a decade, genuinely had the largest cultural impact on me and my generation in the UK
The sidemen is such a crazy phenomenon. They all had very football or gaming centric backgrounds all those years ago, and I was never a big fan of football nor the games they played like FIFA, GTA or CoD so I didn't watch them while everyone else in school would rave and meme about them, but then as 'the sidemen' they moved away from gameplay and I got to know their personalities better. Now they're one of my favourite channels, but they're still mainstream enough that I'll see them mentioned in the strangest places.
The unusual part of that is how most channels that are as mainstream as the sidemen aren't 'cool' to like. Like Mr beast does crazy things and it's interesting to discuss, but to call yourself a Mr beast fan isn't going to win you popularity points. Being a sidemen fan though is equivalent to saying you watch love island. (Unsure the US equivalent)
I'm a 32 year old man in America who has watched every single sidemen video that has ever released. I was a day one. Even I still watch them. I don't even have cable though, I choose youtube content over cable every day of the week lol... I was watching KSI back when he only had like 100k subs. It's really incredible what these boys, now men, have become. Watching their glow up makes me think about what the fuck I been doing all these years lol
They recently ranked their favourite sidemen Sundays of the year in a tier list. You could probably react to more of what they consider great vids

The sidemen have been such a staple of youtube for everyone i knew while i was growing up that it seems weird for people to have not heard of them

2:00 They have said before that the name sidemen comes from an inside joke that Simon & Tobi started.
Simon was seen as JJ’s sideman & Tobi was seen as Josh’s sideman, so in the Skype group chats they would joke about being the sidemen and it caught on.
this was very informative as the only thing I knew about the sidemen before was that my dad used to babysit one of them. Like I met one of the sidemens dad on a beach, got invited to his house for a barbeque, and didn't find out till after I said no who it was.

Same here, who was the first sidemen you watched. Mine was Simon through his FIFA 14 series and then I found out who the rest were when I watched his GTA vids
Ngl I feel old...I've been watching the sidemen for basically a decade now ( I discovered them through Simon's FIFA 14 series) and it's so nice to see people in the U.S. finally know who they are where instead back in the day in my middle school and highschool times it was only me and or any of the guys who were into Football in school back in the day that knew who they were. Started at 12 and now I'm 20 jeez...
it was so fun in the uk since everyone knew who they were from pretty much the start and now we've all grown up with them 🥲

I think part of the Sidemen's success is that their audience grew with them, myself included, as opposed to them still being kids. Imo it means that the audience was more receptive to the change in the content because they grew out of it too
I grew up watching them and as a 26 year old woman im suprised that i still watch every sidemen sunday
they r a very smart bois, they know their audience r growing up and they know that they r too. They're content is just having fun doing challenges with ur friends, there is no such thing as we have to pretend to be "children" having fun in their vids. Its just lads having fun, im 27 and ive been watching them for the longest. U can see how they're slowly turning their vids into pub challenges, golf and travel challenges, that we grown ups love to do with our homies a couple of our days
2:01 I dont know what he was on about, they saw the crew and vanos group as like inspiration but were not their sidemen. it comes from Simon being jjs sidemen and tobi being joshes sideman as josh and JJ were by far the biggest when they started they group and Ethan and vikk joined and harry a bit later

Basically grown up in parallel, been cool to follow most of the journey! 😂 Dodford does a great job with an overview of them for sure! Really rate his research and style of content! 👌 That holiday video has remained one of my favourite main channel videos from them to this day! 🔥🔥

I am a viewer from 2013. I started with Simon, Josh and Tobi back in the FIFA days, before the they were the sidemen and they haven’t changed that much in terms of their personalities, apart from growing older and maturing a bit

The part about them lasting forever is true in a realistic terms, of course when they are all retired that doesent count anymore, but the reason they could last for so longs is loyal fanbase. The sidemen have been uploading vids for over 10 years and initially their content was watched mainly by youer teens, meaning many many fans have literally spennt their childhood "around" the sidemen, meaning to some extent the conent is irellevant. Of course if the content gets worse they inevitably wouldent grow anymore but the loyal fans will definately stay as they are there, parasocially put, to "spend time with their friends". (Im not saying their fans are delusional and think they are friends, as that would mean i am delusional, but i think this was a good way to phrase what i was trying to say)

I feel like the holiday comparison video would have been way worse if the budget team weren't allowed to spend money. The vibes of the video would be way off if they were in benidorm and they had to be like "oh no we have no money for drinks this is so sad" especially since they're probably seeing fans everywhere. In the UK, a "sideman" is like a follower or the yes man of somebody. Since KSI was the 9ne with the biggest following, the running joke that the rest of them were his sidemen. Which is where the name originated.
