Did you do any night time driving? How are the LED headlights? The fuel consumption of 4.9 L/100km, and possibly less if staying on 100km/hr, is excellent (which is actually about the same as the ADR of 4.7 L/100km for Extra Urban). Thereby a long distance trip of over 900kms is possible on a tank full (something which cannot be said of any EVs on the market). One can go on a long trip without the frustrations that an EV brings. The front of the update looks much better than the previous model. Saw the base N-Line model last week, and wow, for being base it looks impressive. Great to see that Hyundai is still providing sedans to our market. Having a full sized spare is fantastic.
I drove the i30 hatchback as a rental car as I was visiting Tasmania last year and I found it a great car to drive. I think I prefer it over the Corolla. That’s just my opinion.
I currently own 2020 Kia Rio and I’m actually looking forward to seeing Kia K4 on Australian roads as I’m looking to buy one of those. I am sadly one of the last few people with reasonable sense when it comes to ignoring unecessarily oversized SUVs that don’t offer that much space compared to traditional sedans in terms of cabin comfort or luggage space in the boot.
2:29 thanks for the review! Thinking of buying either this car or the hybrid version, biggest thing putting me off is the speed limit beeps and bongs, I didn’t know it could be turned off from the steering wheel so that makes it a little less painful ! Hopefully Hyundai can do a software update to change this.. just the visual warning would be good. Will you be doing a review on the hybrid version?
Hyundai definitely make some good things these days. Is nice for it's price. And if it's like most Hyundais the fuel consumption will get better with a few ks on it. It was very fresh when you got it.
Great review! Bought one recently, I agree with the annoying speed warning sounds, hopefully Hyundai pushes an update for that. I’ve also noticed a harsh vibration/ resonance sound from the gearbox under acceleration at around 3600-4200 rpm. Was it noticeable to you as well?
Just wondering, is it actually some whining/droning that you are hearing during acceleration? But, if it is actually harsh vibration, then as per DE's comment, please see the dealer, ASAP. If you do see a dealer, can you please post a comment on what they found. Cheers.
@@nicholasmatthews5989 I had it checked out at the dealer, they didn’t find any fault. However, regardless I think it’s still quite thrashy and gets noisey at higher revs. This is my first automatic/CVT car, having only used manuals before. I can say that it’s really not the best engine and transmission combo if you are even slightly interested in cars, it’s good for comfort and reasonable economy. That’s it.
@@limabruv1324 Thanks for your update. It is interesting that the dealer did not find any issues with your CVT; maybe it is the normal characteristic of the CVT when revved high. Next time you are at your dealer, having your car serviced, if there is the opportunity, take one of their test cars for a drive to check out if it has the same characteristic as yours. Apart from that, if driven gently I assume that it is okay. What is your current fuel consumption? Is it about the same as D E's? Based on the ADR it has the capability of doing 1,000km on a long trip, which is very good. It would be a huge change for you with coming from manuals to now your first auto/CVT. Great to hear that you think that it is comfortable. The i30 sedan at $31,990 drive-away appears to be a good practical car without any driving thrills at a reasonable price. For those wanting thrills Hyundai then provides the N-Line and more-so the N (the new N manual sedan is about $57,000 drive-away; maybe take one of these for a test drive). Cheers :) PS How are the LED headlights?
@@limabruv1324 Just out of interest, today c a r s a l e s has a review of the base Kona 2.0 litre, which appears to have the same engine/CVT as your base i30 sedan. The reviewer says "...The 2.0-litre engine is helped by the CVT’s off-the-line briskness but hindered by the typical frenetic quirks under a floored accelerator...". The "typical frenetic quirks" could be the same that you are experiencing. Cheers.
I’m assuming that the i30 sedan with the hybrid engine will be available with the 6 speed DCT just like the Kona hybrid, which in that case makes for a compelling choice over the Kona.
@@Eugen-Ewith all due respect, you are buying a hybrid for the very reason as to why hybrid vehicles exist in the first place, economy, and not performance, with the Kona Hybrid’s claimed fuel economy of 3.9L/100km. And interesting that the Santa Fe hybrid and the soon to be released Tucson hybrid do a claimed 6L/100km,but that is with a more powerful hybrid with a 1.6ltr turbo engine as opposed to the Kona hybrid with only the 1.6ltr atmo engine.
Hmmm the i30 hatchback seems like a faster car? 120kw/203nm and gets 0-100 in a hair over 8 seconds? The new i30 sedan gets 110kw/180nm? They went backwards?
Im gonna be honest, I was thinking about an Elantra, but I think the 2023 model looks better, and that 2023 one is not a beautiful car by any means... The styling on the back is kinda weird, and the edges on the side of the doors idk man!... And that front looks like it was squashed down from the 2023 model! Id go with the Forte, same car basically but with a better looking exterior imo!

I've had my pre update N line sedan down to 5.2L/100 on the highway. 40,000km on it now and I average around 6.5L/100 with the 1.6 turbo.

Renting is the best test, longer than most jouno's tests😅.
But it’s not as reliable as corolla and won’t last more and new corolla is also very nice
The hatchback is faster than the sedan.. engine makes more power and torque
Love this thing - looks great and who can argue with those economy figures from a non-hybrid unit

Possibly due to new stricter fuel pollution norms. (same thing happened with the Suzuki Swift)
Could be the move away from direct injection… the gdi engines make more power torque but gum up over time on the valves.

The Forte is lovely, I just love how quirky this design is, it turns my head, in a good way every time I see one😊
How's the road noise on concrete and coarse bitumen?
pity it was'nt a liftback....but at 29k before haggling it's ideal for day to day running around and commuting.
The $29,000 is before on-road costs. Hyundai currently has it at a "Drive-Away Offer" of $31,990, which is a fairly decent price nowadays.
We got a couple of speed cameras (dirty dogs) 😂😂😂😂😂 what a legend

The economy is crazy low for a 2L engine!
Nooo not Kia/Hyundai going the route of CVT
