    How Mormon kids bully others.
    ABOUT US:
    Mormon Stories Podcast is the longest-running and most successful podcast in Mormonism - hosted by Dr. John Dehlin. At Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We also occasionally interview scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals. Our overall mission is to: 1) Facilitate informed consent amongst LDS Church members, investigators, and non-members regarding Mormon history, doctrine, and theology, 2) Support Mormons (and members of other high-demand religions) who are experiencing a religious faith crisis, and 3) Promote healing, growth and community for those who choose to leave the LDS Church or other high demand religions.
    Mormon Stories Podcast is a product of the Open Stories Foundation - a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to supporting Mormons in religious transition.

      Sorry that happened to you. That often happens to another minority group in a community, especially when it comes to things relating to values. People often shun those they fear will threatened their values like strict liberals avoiding conservatives. It happens the other way around where people shun Christians or LDS members because they're "too goody too shoes". They won't get asked to parties to events and often shunned so don't take it personally. Humans just have some unhealthy natural tendencies as a whole.

    Not even in a Mormon area, just the regular ol' Bible Belt and I can definitely relate. I literally got bullied for being the only one in my government class who was willing to debate the Democratic side of a few issues in a mock election. Some other kids screamed things like "sinner" and "baby killer" and "slut" at me in the hallway, among other things. The teacher was standing right there and did absolutely nothing. Someone invited me to go to church, and when I politely declined and told them that I was not religious, well, all hell broke loose. Even "friends" were constantly trying to "save" me.

    I grew up in Utah as a non-Mormon (and non-Christian) and everything was fine friend-wise until 8 yo (the age everyone gets baptised in the LDS). At that point so long as their parents didn't know I could play with them but the second the parents found out I would be told to go away and not come back. The kids would run away from me, refuse to partner with me on school projects (and if the teacher forced them they wouldn't work with me so I'd end up doing it all myself anyway)
    I was told by adults I'd be cast into the outer darkness (Mormon hell) as a kid that's pretty fucked up. I couldn't join scouts or anything like that because they were all Mormon run where we were at. It was so bad my brother joined and was baptised around 11 so he could have friends. I never did.
    The Mormons brainwashed him to the point that we don't talk anymore and haven't since he got back from his mission. If we have to talk it's like talking to any other stranger. Business-like and brief.

    The thing is, I know a lot of people don’t have my point of view about things and so what. I don’t hold them to my beliefs because they don’t believe what I do. The only person I ever said anything to in public was when we were eating out with our two little kids getting wide eyed and some loud mouth was sitting at a table dropping F bombs all over the place so I finally half stood up looked at the guy and I said “hey Bro I got kids here.” Well to the guy’s credit he apologized right off and quieted down. Then when I went to pay and walked by he apologized again. Then when we were walking out in the parking lot he was walking out also and apologized again. My kids were smiling and saying hi to the guy, he was really cool. I wouldn’t have said anything if it were just me I worked construction then and hear it all day long no biggie. I gotta hand it to him I half expected him to say F off but he didn’t. I wouldn’t have even heard it anything he was saying
    Moral of story is: people get out of yourselves once in a while and just be nice to other people. There are mean backwards kids (and adults too) in every religious and other culture I don’t care which. The scriptures say don’t revile against others even when they are being jerks. Mormons aren’t taught to be disrespectful Joseph Smith said “we worship God according to our own conscience and all others have the same right let them worship how they may (or may not). I don’t find most people disrespectful like that shame on them if they do. I have family that smokes and drinks, we don’t, hey they are great people I love them I don’t judge. Utah is weird.

      Well the funny thing is that you don't decide what they are, religious identity-wise, they do.
      If they say they're christian, then they're Christian and fundamentally you have no say in the matter.
      A lot of terrible things have been done due to people thinking they can decide these things and judge others like that. It's a very slippery slope.
      You can say you're of a different sect of the overall faith, or that the teachings you value are different than theirs, but you're both still christian.

    • @yup306
      @yup306 Год назад +5

      @@amazingkool I understand your viewpoint, but this isn’t true. They can call themselves Christians - and Mormons do, but they are not Christians. This isn’t to be hateful, it’s just plain true. We Christians have objective points of faith regarding the nature of God (Triune, etc), the authority of the Bible, the way of salvation, and most importantly the nature of Christ. The Mormons do not believe what Christians believe about Christ. Truth is truth, and it has to be true. It cannot be relative. They can call themselves Christians. Objectively, however, they are not. This is well established in Christian tradition. I feel bad for a lot of ex-Mormons because of this. They get burned by their religion and end up rejecting Christianity outright, thinking it the same as what they’re leaving.

    • @arowace498
      @arowace498 Год назад +3

      @@yup306"the truth is the truth" and "it cannot be relative" doesn't make any sense in this context. They think they have the truth too and there's no real distinction between your truth and theirs. Christians are just religious groups that believe in the spiritual significance of Jesus Christ. All the details surrounding that just define the sect of the religion.

    • @yup306
      @yup306 Год назад +1

      @@arowace498 There is a huge distinction, and that’s my entire point. “Their truth” isn’t genuine Christianity. You cannot simply assert that they’re the same without knowing what both groups believe.
      Not only that, but Christians are not groups that simply believe Jesus was significant, and diverge there. Christianity has particular lines, when it comes to Christ, it draws in the sand via definitions. There is room to deviate from less important points, like what instruments to use in worship services (which is where a lot of groups deviate), but there isn’t room in Christianity to deviate on who Christ is, His nature and His work. Mormonism sets forth a whole new belief system, outside of what the canonical Bible tells us, about Christ. If, then, it enumerated something different from the Christian faith about Christ, it is objectively something different from Christianity.
      I’m not just pulling this out of nowhere, either. There is a well-established distinction and it’s well established among theologians that Mormonism isn’t Christianity.
      Think of it this way : I can cook “spaghetti”. if I make a salad, using maybe some of the same ingredients, like tomatoes, as spaghetti, is it still spaghetti? I can call it spaghetti, but its nature is different. It is objectively something else. If “my truth”, in calling it spaghetti, conflicts with THE truth, that it just isn’t spaghetti, “my truth” isn’t truth.
      This isn’t, again, to hate on Mormons, because so many are victims of a system that calls itself Christian, but just isn’t.
