Angry and disgusted Pete is truly the best form of Pete Quinnell. Pete's Smackdown rants not that long ago were so cathartic. I'm curious to see where this show goes.
The match that finally snuffed out any of my love and fandom for the Fed. It's staggering how bad it is at face value, but when you add that a rival promotion was starting tv the same damn week and they just buried a fan-favorite champion... it still makes me absolutely livid.
This and "Worst Match Ever" are my 2 most favorite forms of content right now. Really love the deep dive here on this abysmal booking decision and the format as a whole. Looking forward to the next installment!
This was great, good work Pete, Happy Birthday btw. I just feel bad for the audience there, they paid to see what should have been an incredible match and ended up with that. All they did was create the world's biggest darkroom and they should have developed the worlds largest photo while they were at it.
I really loved this idea and clip Pete, and I'm glad you were the one to vent about it this god awful pay-per-view. I'm interested to see where this potential series goes.
HiaC 2019 was my first live PPV; went with a couple of coworkers. By the end of the event the booing from the crowd was so loud you could feel it shaking through the floor of the Golden 1 Center. The real travesty here is that the dumpster fire that was Rollins v. The Fiend will forever overshadow the rest of the card that night. Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch did things in their HiaC match that I've never seen in a wrestling ring; an absolute classic of a match that almost nobody talks about. Why? Because of a stupid red light and a DQ caused by a dude in a rubber mask getting hit with a carnival hammer. 🙄🤷🏻
Same actually. First live show and they give us THAT Main Event... Like you said, at least Becky and Sasha tore the house down, but that's not what people remember about this show unfortunately...
So if you discount the Fiend vs Seth Rollins, Hell in a Cell 2019 does become a bit better. There are still things on the show that are bad (Charlotte beating Bayley for the Women's title only for Bayley to win the title back the next night, Chad Gable 'becoming' Shorty G, a six person tag that ended in a DQ). BUT there are good things, Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns vs Luke Harper and Erick Rowan is great despite the bad storyline surrounding it and the other Hell in a Cell match between Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks is great and would be remembered as an underrated gem of a Cell match if it was not on the same show as one of the worst ever. But Rollins vs Wyatt is abysmal AND perfectly demonstrates why Vince McMahon was no longer fit to be running creative.
I remember I was going to watch the PPV with my dad. I saw spoilers for the ending, which may have been a blessing in disguise. I told him I had changed my mind about watching it & even tho this PPV featured Harper’s last wwe match in his career, I still refuse to watch the PPV to this day. If I watched it with him not knowing the ending, I would’ve been so angry, he probably would’ve kicked me out the house. lol
That main event is where my fandom of WWE died. The weeks event's that lead up to 2019's Hell in a Cell PPV were some of the most God awful decisions I had ever seen from a wrestling promotion. For those of you who don't remember or weren't around, I recommend looking up the video "Bryan Alvarez goes off on WWE's arrogance", because that summarized the situation best. After that PPV, I never actively watched the product again, only AEW, and I only kept up via watching Wrestletalk. So far, it's been a good decision.
Mine too, it was already on life support. Been AEW since. Tried wwe again during Vince’s time off but it is still not good on the top of the card at all. They have continued to back themselves into a corner with Roman Reigns
The first omen was that The Fiend shouldn't have even been in the title picture so early. He needed to grow and fester until he finally came for the champ at the height of his power. It was doomed from the start
1. Congratulations on the new series, Pete and WrestleTalk Crew! 2. Regarding this horrendous outcome, to quote Brian Zane from Wrestling With Wregret: *"How did you fk this up???"*
I want this to be continued but with two alternating hosts. Pete doing all the "worst" ones and someone like Sully or Luke doing the "good" ones. And it would eventually lead to a debate betweeen the two for contentious moments like breaking Undertaker's streak, or CM Punk in AEW etc.
The thing that really throughout all this process was how clueless Seth Rollins was, how he couldn't seem to read the room. At this particular point, especially after some very bad booking in the last few years, WWE was very much the "heel" in the eyes of a lot of fans. Even WWE fans who only watched WWE. Sure there were the ultradiehards that would try to convince the bad product was actually good and there were those in the middle that were able to find silver linings but admitted the product was mostly bad. But the funny thing is WWE *knew* this, some of the stars that got the most over in the years before were people who would either "speak truth to power", like CM Punk, or that got over because of how unfairly bad they were book despite deserving better, like Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston. AND to a certain degree, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, the other two guys in the Shield that always had to take a backseat to Roman Reigns even when he was not working as the top babyface *while they were over* . Seth himself *buried* the company (in a worked shoot way of course) in 2018, prompting the whole "You are the Authority" thing. And by the way, all these people, *were booked as babyfaces* . WWE knew the perception of the company was bad in the eyes of most of its fans. And saying certain things actually got them more over because it gave the fans the hope that "hey, if they're pushing them while they're saying what we think, maybe there's hope". How Seth didn't see that siding with WWE in a time when the product was still bad, where the booking was still awful, and say in the face of all of it "WWE is the best", would not work in his favor is beyond me. And this even before he furtherly put his foot in his mouth with the Ospreay thing. Just plain stupid.
I'm glad Pete pointed out the effects this has on Rollins and Wyatt until three years later because this feels like FOREVER ago. Again, only ONE week of Dynamite aired at the time it the PPV. Kofi had only lost the belt days earlier. WWE 2K20 hadn't released yet. The world hadn't shut down yet. CM Punk returned to WWE weeks after this - for a talk show. Like WOW.
This was the last ppv i watched before this year. And along with aew continually shitting itself, it was the mark of me stopping wrestling content consumption for 2+ years
It is always fun to see Pete mad about stuff. I like the idea of the +/- wheel, but the numbers are distracting and bit arbitrary. Maybe just a red to green meter without numbers? Or just the wheel without the numbers?
So, it's that one segment from Treehouse of Horrors with the haunted Krusty doll. "The doll is cursed." "That's bad." "Here's a coupon for a free frozen yogurt." "That's good, "The frozen yogurt is also cursed." So if that had a baby with Ups and Downs, and also, Everything Wrong With over at Cinema Sins.
I really like this video format but I think if you're going to have the little gauge on screen, having it wrap all the way around multiple times renders it kind of pointless as a visual reference. I think a bar across the bottom that stretches to the right or left would be a better way to visualize the current standing. Still liked the video though.
I think it's important to leave feedback rather than just "critise" this new program of Wrestle Talk. Firstly, this is a good way to show an audience how a wrestling company got a specific match, gimmick, ppv or time period wrong, what the outcome was and how or if they recovered from it. My main problem with this video is that it's really trying hard to be consistantly funny all the time throughout the video, with cringy cliche "comedy". The presenters arent comedians, but rather good or even great jounalists. I think sticking to a journalist type video (such as the new Luke top fave wrestlers video) with a splash of comedic moments work. I think the 3 words or less videos work because they are meant to be fun comedic videos that put the journalism right on the back seat. Maybe this should have been presented by Tempest, with a more less comedic performance. Again in not trying to critise this video but rather give my personal opinion and feeback on this, I assume you'd want this from fans and the audience so your content is improved in the future.
You know in thinking about Bray Wyatt versus Bobby Lashley at Mania this year, it kinda feels like they're doing the who Chris Masters angle again. The whole who can break the master lock submission. History truly does repeat itself especially in WWE and this is why I firmly believe Vince is running creative.
Pete's vibe in this feels like Cody Johnston from Some More News, if Cody's Showdy was about professional wrestling and not issues in American politics.
WWE is BIG on "this is what we want the fans to want" and usually just forcing what they think is good not what the fans want. Vs AEW who arguably doesn't do consistent storytelling but usually gives the fans what they want within reason. Bray as the Fiend single-handedly carried Smackdown in 2019 for several months and was my favorite thing is wrestling with how crazy it was. He seemed like an unstoppable force that was fun to watch and he never needed the belt. But if you book the match, then you make the monster win. Should have been stomp, kickout at 1, 2nd stomp kickout at 2, attempted third stomp only for 1 and only 1 Sister Abigale and the Fiend wins. Instead they bury Seth's finisher, ruin the purpose of Hell in a Cell, turn the fans against Seth, and make the Fiend seem honestly too bizarre losing the match while taking no damage only for him to get rolled later on making the character not consistent.
I was there that night watching live in the arena because at time I just needed something fun to take my mind off things. As I had just put my down down that Friday prior and thought oh yeah WWE in town for payperview what would go wrong? Well, myself and the crowd were none too pleased to say the least. I was also there for the infamous Raw where the McMahon family was in tel he ring promising to make things better. So idk why but Sacramento has been cursed by WWE for quite some time now
I'm guessing you got this idea after watch the Halloween episode of Simpsons. "But it comes with a free frogurt." "That's good." "The frogurt is also cursed." "That’s bad." Real original.......
I always said that what WWE SHOULD have done with The Fiend was have him squash Rollins for the Universal Championship... and then just discard the belt backstage somewhere and vanish again. So WWE is forced to declare the title vacant and hold a tournament to crown a new champion, upon which The Fiend IMMEDIATELY reappears to attack said new champion, beat them for the belt, and then repeat the process until it becomes obvious that The Fiend is only using the belt as a sort of bait to find the strongest wrestlers in the company's mens division and crush them one after another, effectively haunting the belt. This gets to the stage that nobody actually WANTS to be Universal Champion any more because everyone's too scared of The Fiend, up until it finally comes time for a chosen babyface to take up the belt, meet The Fiend head on, and finally get that big triumphant win over him. But that's far too complicated a story for WWE to tell.
Pete really did an excellent job on this video, that Hell in a Cell match had to be the worst match in the history of WWE, I loved how he read what the referee was saying to Seth Rollins but what really made this match horrible was the disqualification finish in that type of match, it was so badWWE fan not only ask for ticket refunds but some were actually throwing objects at the ring area.
I like it… A very informative and entertaining video. If I can slightly critique the format? I don’t think things from before the show should go on the counter. You can add excitement in the buildup as a multiplier to however good or bad something is, but it feels weird to say that the run of The Fiend before this show gives the show a 5 or 10 point head start.
I would add going well past HIAC as well to add more negative points. If nothing else, name it more accurately because this video was largely about the fiend and not just the one PPV. It feels a bit misleading.
Angry and disgusted Pete is truly the best form of Pete Quinnell. Pete's Smackdown rants not that long ago were so cathartic. I'm curious to see where this show goes.
It takes a certain talent to be actually entertainingly angry about something.

@@michaelrivera8360 FOR REAL! I honestly cannot wait for that episode xD
