Pepper belongs to me and my husband/her trainer, Les Castro. What a blessing to be a small part of The Chosen and to work with Dallas and Paras.
That absolutely makes sense and really clears up why everyone was confused and frustrated, including the dog. You never realize how hard it is to put a dog on camera until you actually do it. From having to do the same thing over and over, to having a lot of people moving around, saying and doing strange (to the dog) things. All those moving and unpredictable pieces make for a very difficult working situation. Which is, I think, why most movies/shows don't even bother. They just film a dog totally by itself, and don't really ask anything of it except to stand there (which can be hard enough).
So, really, thank you for putting in the time and effort to make the dog and Matthew look natural, like they actually know each other and like the dog is genuinely in the scene and part of the action. I realize it's a hard, generally thankless task. Especially when the fact that everything didn't go 100% according to plan is captured on camera. People can be very unforgiving about the slightest perceived flaw in handling an animal, even though the reality is that it's never going to go perfect the first time or the hundredth. Not for anybody. That's kind of the point.
And also, thanks for taking the time to clear up the audience confusion as best you can. I, for one, find anything and everything about dog handling endlessly fascinating.

Thx for explaining that. I was thinking that this breed is usually amazing when trained and it seemed like she just wasn't performing. I love seeing animals in productions and have heard Dallas speak in interviews after the first season, not the most pleasing about working with a dog. I wanted to see her do great so we would get to see more of her. Btw, grew up with shepards and she is a beauty. So crazy that she is trained in three languages.

Matthew and his dog is now a icon,so sweet! When everyone hated the tax collector the dog shows him friendship and Matthew wasn’t lonely anymore.
Dogs do not care who or are what you do for a living. Long as you are good to them.
To me the development of Matthew's character is absolutely phenomenal ‼️
This makes no sense because in the Bible, dogs are always connected to uncleanliness and the enemies of God.

How many acting dogs have worked in the series, so far? So there's Pepper and Jet(?).
Our GSD is trained by me and one other trainer.
At 100 pounds, I never want him jumping on people. And he won't; unless stubborn visitors raise their hands to their shoulders. That is his "Let's Dance" command.
It is a challenge to "train" visitors when they can give mixed signals to your dog.
The best is Millan's No Touch No Talk No Eye Contact.
Paras does such a great job. Seriously, I have developed such an appreciation for Matthew because of his portrayal. Now seeing the work of his co-star too... 😎👍
Amen, Matthew is much more alive for me because of The Chosen, and I love the dog as well because animals sometimes create a sense of connection to those who find it difficult to connect with people.

Your people have a different type of love for dogs
So have I! It puts his character to a whole new level for me. Now when I read about him in the bible I have a new sense of what he must have gone through being a tax collector.

Ikr but she's supposed to listen to her trainer and everyone else doesn't matter what they say. I had one years ago I trained well and he could've done that so first time easy. Now I don't have the patience like before but have two blk German Shepherds and 3 blk and reds smart breed.

my female German Shepherd is NOT about this video haha. Love this breed but when he was like "a knock will trigger her to bark" I was like yes. yes it will. Matthew's dog is GORGEOUS

The scenes with the dog are heartwarming and, when she joins the family, a little funny! The confusion Alphæus and Elisheva have on first seeing her are hilarious, and then she sweetly lies on the ground. Good job!

Love The Chosen dog. Reminds me of my Dog Bear Von Lab, a black Larador crossed with an Akida. He was abandoned. When we opened the door of the garage he was staying in, he ran out of the door into my car and lived a wonderful life and was a great blessing until he was 14 years old. I will see him again one day. This scene reminds me of when I took him to obedient classes.😅

She's a beautiful dog! I love seeing Matthew with his girl again. LOL I do think she was getting way too many signals and her handler looks to be too anxious (maybe from her little confrontation with the smaller dog earlier). She's clearly picking up his energy. And the busyness of the set probably doesn't help. She looks like she wants to go play! Dogs need "me" time too.😂

@@jennifercastro8836 well. But he wasn't staying either. Dallas had to pull him back. And he was getting verbal cues to bark not gestures. So I'm clearly confused I guess.

And that little dog from earlier didn't make things any better. Working with animals isn't easy, but animals are so crucial to the realism of the show.
Dallas is so loving with her; & she responds to him.
I love watching behind the scenes filming. It is just so fascinating how much planning, technology & practice it takes to make even one part of one scene. Especially when dealing with animals & children!

@@terrycooper4149 I do… actually two and they are definitely honorary.. the Black and Tan is a couch potato and lives to eat, my tan and brown eats to live and always on patrol. He hunts lizards and Carpenter bees and absolutely hates cats. They definitely own me😂
Wow.. you don’t see any of that on the scenes. On the scenes, the dog is so calm and well behaved. But, behind the scenes it is still a dog. It still needs to be commanded and needs gestures from whoever is working with it. (you have to be gifted to work with dogs)
I saw a comment that two different dogs were used in different scenes. That might explain the different behavior..

Dog training and communication is not easy! I was trying to imagine how I would instruct the puppy in that moment. It’s would be fun and challenging to try!

Reminds me of years ago when my brother and I did a short video making use of the dog I had at the time. Having to set up the shot so I was out of it, with the dog aimed in the right direction. And then having to take and retake to get the exact right movement from the dog. But at least it was just us two, and nobody handled the dog but me while he was working and we were in our own house. I can't imagine trying to get the same shot on a real film set with people and things and distractions. But it still took more tries than I want to remember just to get the dog to turn his head the way he needed to for the shot to work. Something most people don't realize is few dogs are taught to turn their head just so, or to step just here. That has to be done with positioning everyone just so, in editing or by retaking until the dog should happen to look in the right direction.
And so few movies or shows even bother trying to make the dog look like they're responding to their co-star, or not gazing wistfully in the direction of their handler. In part because they think nobody will notice. Some of us notice. And we appreciate how hard it is to get right, even for just a few seconds of footage.
Matthew is still my favorite. The dog is a bonus :-)

I hope not. It’s very immersion breaking to see such Western European and very modern dog breed in this show. They should have gone with a different dog that looks more like a Canaan Dog.

I was so hoping S3 would have aired at easter,but to my disappointment i was told no not till about Christmas . The thing is i"ve been fighting cancer for 2yrs. see my plight? Gods will not mine. I"ll just keep watching s1&s2 until Father sends for me... May God bless you !

@@jarypeterson6571 2 Chihuahua mix, my rescues, both female about 8 or 9 years old. Then Lord help me there is Dutch, the mini schnauzer age 5. The girls are clever but were the dickens to housebreak. One of them was obviously very ill treated prior to being fostered and then adopted by us. Dutch is smarter than most people. Learned his commands in a heartbeat, but he could never be a dog like the one in The Chosen. Typical terrier, yippee, feisty and can get wayyyy wound up. Short attention span. He generally obeys well, but sometimes needs me blocking him with my stern voice to make him back up and quiet down. My husband and I have had some wonderful pets, both cats and dogs, over the years. Wouldn't trade those memories for anything. What kind of puppy do you have?

Working with animals on a set is fascinating. It's so cool to watch. We had German Shepherds growing up, and they were well trained, but I don't think they could ever do this, especially my mom’s dog. The only one she ever really listened to was my mom. If I tried to get her to do anything when my mom was around, she'd look at me as if saying, "I'm not listening to you, kid", and walk off in the opposite direction.
It mustve been so tough with the dog .... but kuddosss
