I'm such a fan of the audio quality of this video. You voice is so clear while I can still hear the room and the button clicking, but then your instruments are mixed together so well. The listening experience was really enjoyable. Thank you.

Yeah it's about knowing each piece individually then learning how to pair them.
And the more you use some types of units, or brands the more you start to understand the logic behind them.
But when you start its confusing as hell.

I love this setup and could see a budget version with Korg Es2 in the middle controlling a synth on the left and anything dawless or daw on the right.

This is the vid I return again and again this whole year. Helped me guide my train of thoughts and build setup I really enjoy - which is actually the same but with digitone instead of moog. Allows me to add extra few percussions, arps, fx etc - and switch basslines as fast as I want. Really enjoying this setup.

Sick demo. The OT is ridiculously deep. I'm always blown away to see the different ways artists use it. I mostly use it for live ambient, where slowly morphing samples and live loops are fair play. That said, I often sample synth, drums, and "field" recordings into the OT, and live mangling, looping, and sequencing are always at play. I actually have recorded 3 or 4 minutes worth of electronic goodness and let those extended samples play as "tracks". I often play it solo, with no other instruments, which makes the performance move along nicely, and lets me have 7 or all 8 tracks for the samples (not that I use them all at the same time). There is so much to the OT, I am not sure I could run out of ideas.
Thanks for this demo and lesson. Everything you're saying is very true.

Clear explanations bro. On the octatrack l find inputting chords pretty straightforward, on your midi keys hold down chord of choice, press trigger on octatrack, and chord is programmed. You can then modulate the length and notes using the lfo's.

Hi Enrique, I have enjoyed so much of your uploads, I watched most all of them and they make me inspired and ready to get creative. I couldnt believe when you went to the music store and they had all the pocket operators there. 10 peg hooks of them, I got really jealous.WHAT ??? I have purchased some AKAI mpk minis and am enjoying trying to mold and shape the tones I am manipulating, i am using the PO's (33 and 35 KO and SPEAK )for percussion and samples and combining them through a looper and recording live additions to the loop with all other available sounds I can play with. Thanks for sharing so much gear, ideas and staying true to your individual artistry and helping people how to understand these complex instruments, You have helped me countless times learning and becoming inspired

Very Interesting, RT! Please Please. Someday, I would appreciate a video regarding setups for ALL OTHER songwriters that don't rely on 2 bar tonic drone grooves. We have been left behind in this new era of tech. And though I have racks of today's synths, I have YET to find a setup for horizontal songs (songs with chord changes) I can use without a laptop.

  • @Depuratumba

this is quite interesting, specially for the mixing flexibility. I'm currently using a setup which uses Octatrack, Digitakt, Audiothingies P6 and a small MIDI controller (Faderfox UC4) for some quick access to a few controls.
OT mainly as a mixer - DT on AB, P6 on CD. I use the transition trick to transition between tracks, so I'm always mixing a recorded loop with the new track (only one pattern on the OT as of right now, so it's easier to just reload a single part - less risks of fucking up... a bit underused for the OT, but oh well... still haven't had the time to configure it deeper)... and while this works pretty good, is not as flexible as your approach... I'll consider it for the future, since I'm always trying new ideas for setups.
    great video as always :)

If you’re looking for something in the send/return, guitar pedal seems like the right choice... there’s a few really high-powered compact options now, like the Empress Zoia, or any of the Chase Bliss pedals (Thermae is my fave). All of the Meris pedals are great as well. All of the above are midi-compatible too!

I totally agree with you, too much focus on “live composition”... crowd just usually wants to hear and feel the beat without any lapse... plus if it’s too continuous/homogenous, where’s the contrast in the overall set? You’ve got the right idea. I mostly produce but got some decks to practice on and I will try to start adding more custom stuff to that from my “collection”. I really need to just hook some stuff up like this though and create a “jam set” too though!

Great thoughts! Thanks for sharing! Totally dig the Moog sounds and agree (per your liner notes), the Minotaur may be a better bass tool in this setup. Not that Sirin isn’t great, it’s just that the Minitaur is so easy to tweak and get those deep bass riffs or BOC-style pitch deformed glows so fast. I love using Maths for CV tweaking its Gate, Filter, and Pitch (it’s a great eurorack filter too!) but of course none of this utilizes CV. Just love that Minotaur and love your setup!
