  • Cape Town, South Africa - 13 September 2024: A small group of protesters gathered outside the offices of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) to oppose the slashing of 2407 teaching posts in the province. As a result of budget reductions, which the Democratic Alliance (DA) led provincial government has blamed on national government, the reduction in teaching posts will take effect from the start of the 2025 academic year. Unions and civil society organisations have called for alternative actions and are set to oppose the culling of these teaching posts. (Footage can be licensed via Gallo Images)
