That line about Altan Soong didn't make sense. It would, if Soong was someone Stamets could remember back from the 23rd century. But Soong lived later, so Stamets could only learn about him from the 32nd century's historic record. It's as if we were shocked now that Genghis Khan is still being talked about. And the line about Fred having family to inform was so stupid. Minor characters die left and right in Star Trek and no one ever says anything like that, but Burnham has to say this about an android, to show off how empathetic she is. And then, if Fred's memory is intact, then in what way is he dead? Can't his brain be recreated from one positronic neuron?
24:33 Wait a minute. What happened to the actress who plays Tilly? They said she put on some weight because maybe she was pregnant, but this is ridiculous.
thats called fat shaming and its SO uncool to comment on a character's structure like that. its 2024 my dude and should no way reflect the character or story.
In the opening of the first episode Burnham is on the ship and she goes woah! And that's because she is suddenly a lower decks character because lower decks is popular. She goes that's not what I thought was going to happen tonight. And that's why you say she's like Spider-Man or somebody said that. The split screen was so dumb. I completely forgot about the two moon thing. My God.
it's actually not impossible for the two moons to move parallel. yes, they have to be at different distances. but if they have different masses, then their speeds would be different and their angular speeds could technically be the same. but this would be almost infinitely improbable.
The one farther away would have to move faster than the one closer to the planet. It is nearly impossible especially since the 2 moons are identicle in size . Mass is a factor but the difference betweem them would have to be huge. Normally the closer you are to the planet the faster you have to move to avoid crushing down. Here its the opposide and the more distant moon is moving faster without flying out of orbit so it has to be have a huge mass.. the lighter moon would be ripped apart by gravity from both sides
@@NitpickingNerd no, gravity doesn't rip things apart. that's not how it works. except in a black hole, probably. but the inner moon, the one between the planet and the outer moon, would simply lose a little bit of its weight (relative to the planet) due to the gravity of the outer moon. think about it: when a plane is flying between Earth and our moon, it doesn't get ripped apart. it only gets a little bit lighter. back to the episode, i don't know why you're saying the two moons are identical in size. did they say that in the episode? mass is literally the only relevant factor, not just "a factor". also, we don't know how much difference is between the two orbits of the two moons. if the difference isn't very large, then the two moons wouldn't have to be extremely different in mass. technically, it wouldn't be an impossible thing to achieve at all. but it would have to be very precisely calculated. when i said it's almost infinitely improbable, i meant it would be very unlikely to occur naturally. the masses of the two moons would have to be at the exact right ratio to each other, in order for them to go in tandem. there would probably be a little bit of a margin of error, because the two moons would also attract each other. so even if the masses were a little bit off, they could still go in tandem, because going out of sync would require more energy than staying in sync. in any case, the series is idiotic.
@@ElevenEvilExes Of course gravity rips cellestrial bodies apart, its called the Roche Limit. You can't compare it with a plane as its own mass is absolutly not significant. Also, Jupiters moons have thermal activity because of the friction caused by Jupiters gravity. It may work though when both moons are tidally locked and at their La-Grange-Points of each other.
it never made sense why they needed to be made as twins. it's as if the writers of Picard thought "wait, Data had a twin that must mean all Androids are made as twins" (even though Data had other brothers but they didn't know that)
My thoughts on "The Infinity Room". Do they have the powers of "Q" now? Remember when TNG actually took the time to describe the holodeck technology and create interesting sci fi stories based on this technology? Nu Trek is distinctly written by and presented to the incurious.
It is just more plagerism, STD is littered with ideas stolen from other popular shows and even games like Mass Effect. The Infinity Room is basically the secret invisible room used by the government in the show Invinsible that has just finished season two, I had not seen it before that show and oh look...its in STD the day after Invinsible's Finale.
@@temparalflux914 TNG used it when Q encountered Picard in one episode after he died. The Matrix used it back in the 90's as well. But my point really was -- how does this relate to "reality"? What is happening here for them to be in this white space? No explanation whatsoever. Nothing matters or means anything in Nu Trek. It just "is".
@@NitpickingNerd or why didn't they land or hover above the city and expanded the shields to protect it? I'm sure with 2 ships they would have enough power to do it.
During the entire episode I was only irritated by one person: Michael Burnham. She’s insufferable, annoying, arrogant, smug and insubordinate the whole time. She always has to make all decisions, she is always right, everyone has to listen to her opinion and she ignores every order and advice she gets and she always gets away with it all. I don’t understand why that ship needs other officers at all as they only need Burnham to do, know and solve everything.
The Genesis Device is conveniently forgotten in all of Trek, long before this. Like why wasn't it considered as a weapon during the Dominion War, for example?
"The guy with the glasses appear there..." halarious. I also don't remember his name, neither that of the admiral and all other crew members. I watched those two episodes in fast forward with skipping everytime the are alone in a room, because there were alsways those "sad sad" scenes. Ep 2 I brake up in the middle, it was too bad - I couldn't get my eyes open.
But Soong himself (The original) made an android (S7E10 Inheritance) that was so lifelike that she herself thought she was human, and it wasn't until Data recognized a pattern in her blinking that she was found out. I guess that tech was just lost, despite all of the Soongs being masters at android technology.
I don't understand what the romulan did. Why was he writing everything manually in his diary when he was on a romulan science ship? To put it in the wooden box? Then use a cardassian data crystall after downloading the data to it. Why has he not contacted the romulan homeworld and why have the romulans (Tal Shiar was very present back in those times) had no idea what he was doing there and couldnt find him after he went missing? Why did he die? Why does the federation know about him and his research instead of the romulans? The more i think about it, the more illogical the whole story becomes....
@@NitpickingNerd But for whom? For himself makes no sense, why does he make all those hints if he wants to keep it for himself? To solve his own riddle later on? Where are all the romulans in this story?"It should never fall into the wrong hands" -> He is Romulan, therefore the right hands would be the romulans. Because now the wrongest hands in romulan point of view are after the chest, the federation. So he had to fail somehow in his goal to hide it....sorry, i don't understand this at all.
Hmm, fair. Like the first episode of Strange New Worlds season 2, mostly showy and not full of substance. Completely agree on Fred, wanted more. Disappointed. Did you notice the actor was a Vorta in DS9? Should have been given more screen time. It was said in TNG that Soong made Androids look and act less human as that made humans more acceptant, and maybe that was why he was devolved into an earlier Soong type android like Data. I liked the tie in to the Progenitors, but will they do it badly? Not too hopeful. But I did like the language issues with the giant species from the last season, even if that was stolen from Arrival. Still good to see them figure it out. I did think the same of Genesis, but that was shelved and never mentioned again. Probably majorly classified because it didn't work. This whole season, though, is like a video game starring Burnham with Discovery as her escort on her adventures, which is utterly ridiculous. But at least it's kind of funny in a silly way. Painful that that's my enjoyment out of Discovery. But at least the franchise lives.
Funny they can access the Androids memory but DATA said in First Contact "The codes stored in my neural net cannot be forcibly removed", how did they get the data out of a Soong droid?
@@MusicSustainsMe I was going to say that with 31st century tech they might do what 24th century Borg could not . but I rewatched the scene and turns out Stemets did it with old 23d century tech that he had in storage . so yeah it's stupid .
Every time space Jesus is in a life or death situation, she acts like she's on a Rollercoaster, it's ridiculous, and as far as taking security, if Super Burnham took a security force in the second episode I'm sure her captain would've gotten killed, but she's a stunning a brave 5'5 85lb super solider, she doesn't need anyone 😒🤦🏽♂️
I was disappointed, but not surprised, it's yet another mystery box plot. I do like "The Chase" even if I guess scientifically the conclusion is kinda silly, but I kinda like it in the context of Star Trek. So yes I am intrigued that they are continuing that plot, but come on, we both know they were make it terribly stupid and mess it up. I'm intrigued how they will lol
It's ironic that Burnham being captain is so important to the producers, but since Starfleet and the Federation have no real structure in this show, she in no way commands the authority of a Kirk or Picard. There's no defined chain of command around her. She does whatever she wants to anyway, so what's the difference? Also adding a stem bolt or other fan reference is just to placate fans. They don't really understand Star Trek. These shows should be creating new memorable props and characters, not borrowing old ones.
Star Wars vibes were strong in this one, even some specific phrases. They could use you know AI if they are not able to come up with original ideas (or maybe stick to Star Trek you know).
@@stopgeorge Not true. This is something sci fi does now. Its a cyberpunk thing. It may be annoying to some but its about accepting it and moving on my bro lol. Its not 1999 anymore as much as u wish it. I get it. Or when they changed muggles in Harry Potter to NoMags in the newer stuff. Theres a certain sound writers know the studios wanna hear. You gotta accept it. And the reason why is...that language isn't going anywhere so the other option is just dont watch. The studios of Paramount also know what they are talking about and many people should subscribe and download the app and there are deals to be found. Any issue can be directly relayed to their easy-to-use website. Dont trust Netflix. Paramount+ and CBS is the best entertainment has to offer and they treat their talent very well and fair.
Why is the Stemans actor still on this show? or even acting? He destroyed Kevin Spacey's reputation by taking him to court for SA... and he lost! The judge ordered him to pay Kevin Spacey and his legal team for wasting everyone's time. 3 other actor's decided to sue also Kevin Spacey because of Steman's actor actions (he was the first), and they all lost too. People still think Kevin Spacey is guilty, even though he won every single case, and the judges reprimanded the people accusing him.
Ah, and the thing with two moons in different circular orbits being in sync doesn't make sense in physics. The orbital period depends only on the radius, not eg. on the object's mass.
He lets them work together: You're right on that, first off you know they will get into conflict later, second, why not just make Michael the leader since no matter what the other guy suggests, she won't follow orders anyway and will do whatever she wants. 😂
Michael wants to talk to the villains. Considering who played one of them, I wonder how an actual conversation would have gone. I'm hoping the reference isn't too obscure.
It was already established in canon (Voyager, Equinox part 1) in situations with two ships and two captains, the ship with tactical superiority takes the lead. Presumably Burnham should have just been able to overrule Reyner anyway in this instance! Dumb show!
The starships nosediving into the desert was cartoonish. That aside, it’s interesting that they are tying into the Progenitors. However, it would be nice if Sargon’s people, the Arretans, could also get a shoutout. They more or less claimed to have done the same thing as the Progenitors (perhaps to a lesser degree). But it seems Star Trek has completely forgotten about them.
looking forward to more reviews without watching the show aha. Its amazing how action and macguffins are the focus and not story, conflict, problem solving
Gave up after series 3 frankly hated every element of the show at that point couldn't even bring myself to start series 4 one of the worst editons to any franchise I have ever stuck with, I don't even want to watch this video I'm just giving context it's so bad it's not worth hate watching of any of the reviews the shows 30 plus writers at this point deserver nothing certainly not your time.
Same, I think I gave up after about 3 episodes in Season two and felt that the reviews from NPN (which are about as long as the shows episodes) was much more enjoyable.
I legit could not tell a difference between the desert scenes in STD and the desert scenes in the new Dune movie. STD usually rips off shows and movies from decades ago, not from a few weeks ago.
They've been ripping off recent stuff from the very beginning. They ripped off the initial premise of the show from Anas Abdin's Tartigrades video game before he'd even finished it! That's the whole reason they had tartigrade-based space travel in the first place, and why characters with those specific ethnicities, genders, etc., were in the show. Each had a counterpart in Tartigrades. Abdin sued CBS (or whatever the company was called at the time), but the judge ruled against him and sided with the giant corporation, claiming that traveling through space using tartigrades was a common sci-fi trope.

in the voy episode with the cpt randson and the equinox starfleet had a protocol about two captains on the same mission and capt Janeway said that which ship is tactical superior is in charge and who has been captain the longest as well in other ranks seniority over officers with same rank, also have they not hear of beaming all the town people some where else to save then of extend the shield to protect the town and why does the town not have shields them selfs or planetary shields as well the writers have no idea what universe there writing in
Indeed, the townspeople were unphased by people transporting. But the town has no shield.
I loved how a planet simply having 2 moons somehow means it's this one exact planet.

In the opening of the first episode Burnham is on the ship and she goes woah! And that's because she is suddenly a lower decks character because lower decks is popular. She goes that's not what I thought was going to happen tonight. And that's why you say she's like Spider-Man or somebody said that.

26:03 - Actually a call back to an episode of the Animated ST from the 70's, that took Larry Niven's 'Known Space' as its source.
it's actually not impossible for the two moons to move parallel. yes, they have to be at different distances. but if they have different masses, then their speeds would be different and their angular speeds could technically be the same. but this would be almost infinitely improbable.
@@ElevenEvilExesthanks for the explanation. Though I did at first skip to your conclusion. Very funny.

How did we go from Picard Season 3 to...whatever this is?
Most of Altan Soongs Androids were build as Twins, so maybe we will see George later this season.
it never made sense why they needed to be made as twins. it's as if the writers of Picard thought "wait, Data had a twin that must mean all Androids are made as twins" (even though Data had other brothers but they didn't know that)
Fred and George nice pun☺️
I'm so sorry that you have to struggle through this torture, taking one for the team

The part where they crashed the ships into the ground was where they lost me.
why not use tractor beams to disperse that shockwave . they just needed an excuse to crush ships into the planet cause that's exciting
@@NitpickingNerd or why didn't they land or hover above the city and expanded the shields to protect it? I'm sure with 2 ships they would have enough power to do it.
I miss being excited for new Star Trek.
Enjoying your reviews, though.
Like why wasn't it considered as a weapon during the Dominion War, for example?
the Federation is morally against WMDs . the tech was classified and banned exactly because it can be used as such

You should have put in footage of the game Bubble Bobble when you got to the part with the bubble guns.
But Soong himself (The original) made an android (S7E10 Inheritance) that was so lifelike that she herself thought she was human, and it wasn't until Data recognized a pattern in her blinking that she was found out. I guess that tech was just lost, despite all of the Soongs being masters at android technology.
The android face reminds me to the Pogo Data & Picard song. Maybe i´m a little bit racist here, like "every android looks like the same" :)

First Sneed and now Fred, when will they stop killing off interesting one-off characters who like collecting old things?
I don't understand what the romulan did. Why was he writing everything manually in his diary when he was on a romulan science ship? To put it in the wooden box? Then use a cardassian data crystall after downloading the data to it. Why has he not contacted the romulan homeworld and why have the romulans (Tal Shiar was very present back in those times) had no idea what he was doing there and couldnt find him after he went missing? Why did he die? Why does the federation know about him and his research instead of the romulans? The more i think about it, the more illogical the whole story becomes....
Maybe beause paper cant be hacked from afar. Same reason they used paper in TOS for extra security
So he had to fail somehow in his goal to hide it....sorry, i don't understand this at all.
her first officer gives her a solution , she ignores him and checks with tilly first , wtf , WHY isn't Saru the captain!!!!!!!!!
New Trek is the equivalent of Ghostbusters 2016.

It's ironic that Burnham being captain is so important to the producers, but since Starfleet and the Federation have no real structure in this show, she in no way commands the authority of
a Kirk or Picard. There's no defined chain of command around her. She does whatever she wants to anyway, so what's the difference? Also adding a stem bolt or other fan reference is just to placate fans. They don't really understand Star Trek. These shows should be creating new memorable props and characters, not borrowing old ones.
They made Tilly first officer once when she was just a Lieutenant and the rest of the bridge crew were all Lt. Commanders!
Star Wars vibes were strong in this one, even some specific phrases. They could use you know AI if they are not able to come up with original ideas (or maybe stick to Star Trek you know).
I don't like how they call even Soong Androids "synths" now, it feels like they're trying to sound like Blade Runner or whatever
maybe they're afraid their audience will think they're talking about cellphones
It's part of the "cool" language they use. Like "Profesh" and "No presh" in SNW. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Why does discovery season 5 episode 1 does really more like a star wars tv show then star trek?
Why is the Stemans actor still on this show? or even acting?
He destroyed Kevin Spacey's reputation by taking him to court for SA... and he lost!
The judge ordered him to pay Kevin Spacey and his legal team for wasting everyone's time.
3 other actor's decided to sue also Kevin Spacey because of Steman's actor actions (he was the first), and they all lost too.
People still think Kevin Spacey is guilty, even though he won every single case, and the judges reprimanded the people accusing him.
Well, he needs a job so that he can pay this money.
Ah, and the thing with two moons in different circular orbits being in sync doesn't make sense in physics. The orbital period depends only on the radius, not eg. on the object's mass.
Ah, you discuss it in the next one :)
He lets them work together: You're right on that, first off you know they will get into conflict later, second, why not just make Michael the leader since no matter what the other guy suggests, she won't follow orders anyway and will do whatever she wants. 😂

You could just have slow moving magnetic mines that completely go through a ship's shields.
It was already established in canon (Voyager, Equinox part 1) in situations with two ships and two captains, the ship with tactical superiority takes the lead. Presumably Burnham should have just been able to overrule Reyner anyway in this instance! Dumb show!
Discovery was able to crash into planets without a scratch before its 32nd century upgrades 🧐
