    This video is incredibly helpful, I am doing drip irrigation on my vegetables this summer, and you've opened my mind to mini sprinklers as well as 1/4 inch soaker hoses.

    Hello - thank you so much for this wonderful video. Qq : how would you remove soaker hose which are in containers that needs to be taken indoor during winter.

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  11 месяцев назад

      You can just disconnect it and bring it indoors, wash them with vinegar and re use it the next season!

    I love the voice over character's accent. Lends a scientific feeling to the video. The question that arises when we learn tomatoes need lots of water is how much is enough?

    thank you so much for your contribution since I installing the system myself I was kind of intimidated by, but with your explanation I pretty sure I can do this, I did checked the other video for the parts and it looks like you have to attack one unit to the other, just need to get the right ones....

    I realize this is an old video but am enjoying viewing all information. Having trouble with watering my tomato and pepper plants. How much ever I try, I either over water or underwater them. Using drip irrigation looks a good idea. What is the good rule of thumb on how long to turn on the faucet and the schedule if you are using drip irrigation especially when we have different plants with different water requirements. Also is there a video watering and how does one ensure we water correctly ( tomoto , pepper, etc). Thanks

    I am having a terrible time getting the barbed connectors into the 1/2" tubing. I have left the tube in the sun, but still not having much luck. Any tips?

    • @CapnAhab89
      @CapnAhab89 4 года назад

      You can buy an installation tool for connecting the connectors into the tubing. It looks a lot like the punch-tool he is using in this video except it attaches the barbed connectors to one end and allows you to more easily connect them to the 1/2" tubing.

    Thank you for sharing the information on soaker hose. I was not aware of this. I do use drip irrigation for my raised bed and container gardening. Spl. with container setup i think this will be a perfect solution as I see my container are not evenly watered. By the way, what do you do with the 1/2 inc main line during the winter season. Thank you once again for all your videos.

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  10 лет назад +1

      Path Yes I leave the 1/2 inch water line outside in winters - no damage so far in the past few years. However SoCal winters are pretty mild (mostly!). Glad you liked the videos. Happy Gardening!

    Hello, Great Information & thanks a bunch. I have installed timer & the other assembly including pressure reducer (In have 3 in 1 Faucet Adapter) to the main hose with splitter. I have one question - Once I set up timer, should the hose be running all the time? Is there any risk of water going back into the pipe? Do I need to use anything else?
    Appreciate in advance.

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  6 лет назад

      Yes you can leave the hose running all the time, the pressure is enough for it to wait until the timer goes off. I dont see any problems with the water going back but you can use a backflow preventer to avoid this

    Do drip steaks require water pressure to work properly? Or could they be used with a gravity fed system with only a few feet of drop

    tip! leave your 1/4 tubing out in the sun for 40-60 min. Much more pliable afterward!

    Thank you California Gardening. It's a great water-saving system that ensures even, regular watering. I find the soaker hose clogs easily and have to be replaced often. Do you have a filter at the water source origin? I am considering getting one. OneYardRevolution suggested using hydrogen peroxide for maintenance, so I will try this if the 1/4" tubing gets clogged again...or just buy more tubing.

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  10 лет назад +1

      CM Nakagawa Yes, I do have a filter at the origin. I haven't had any clogs yet with the soaker hoses. They also have so many weep points that a clog here and there wouldn't really matter. Try the 1/4'' soaker hose tubing connected to 1/4'' tubing via barbed Tee method - its very effective and I am sure you will like it.

    • @CherylMNakagawa12

      Thank you California Gardening! I will look into a filter and re-work the 1/4" lines. We continue and look forward to enjoying your next videos.

    Do you use a pressure regulator in your system, and how much pressure do you use? Thank you.

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  8 лет назад

      +T Abbs Good question, I wondered the same when I built my system.
      For the containers - I tried with and without the pressure regulator - couldnt notice any difference so I removed it.
      For this system: ruclips.net/video/FnkkksMhnFU/видео.html - there is a built in pressure regulator so nothing else is needed.

    I have a section at front yard that's 3' x 15' rectangular shaped with 3 excising sprinkler heads 5' apart (with toro timer), and i see a lot of water waist, which drip system do you recommend?

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  5 лет назад +1

      For that size you can use a 1/2'' tubing with pre drilled holes or use micro sprinklers
