You can tell from start to finish Jerry Lee Lewis was not having it... This chick was blasted and he played along with his stiff back and precision. And the only time he looked at her was to say, "not mine not mine not mine." I ain't mad at the woman, considering the time. But the star is there, it's Jerry Lee all day long.
So glad to discover this again. Jerry Lee Lewis of Great Balls of Fire fame. Emmylou of Two more bottles of wine. This earlier song is delightfully performed decades ago. Thanks for the post.
Take a listen to Gram Parson do this with the Flying Burrito Brothers, and I think you will see the version Emmylou is hearing in her head, while she sings along. I think she's doing the version she recently did with GP, here. but isn't used to Jerry's version
thank you JLL for all your great music & entertainment you've given us. This one of my favorite songs of your many hits. God Bless you JLL & your family 6-23-21
Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart are cousins who grew up playing piano together. Jimmy Swaggart has the greatest gospel singers and musicians.
Crazy Arms was the first Jerry Lee Lewis single - backed by End Of The Road which Jerry wrote - released by Sun Records in 1956. It was also the first Jerry Lee tape heard by Sam Phillips. Although neither song charted, it launched Jerry Lee's career. If you listen to all of his early songs, you'll see how much he influenced the music that followed - both rock and country. When will he get the recognition he deserves?
Mikefule Definitely one of the greatest Country voices. There are lots of good Country singers, very good voices, and so on. However, they tend to be a bit generic. There's nothing generic about JLL's voice which is absolutely unique. Sad, lost sound with an almost wailing Blues touch as he slides and slurs around notes in a way that seems to be spontaneous, and he's living what he's singing about. It all adds up to greater emotional impact than any other Country singer, past or present, can create.
Saw Jerry Lee Lewis one time when he was in Montreal,Quebec .Listened to him a lot while much younger than I am now at teen dances and on radio stations. Those were the days I loved. His lady singer is amazing !
I think duets aren't Jerry's forte, but you could see he made an effort to make room for Emmy Lou. Good duet!! Still love you, Jerry Lee, after all these years. Peggy
@whisky2roxy .....Hey Dr Whisky .Wow you have the raw talent to tell when people are "likely drunk ".What a gift . ....Did you ever think ....That Mister Nelson and crew , ....had been by ....and they got hit ....with a full contact high . ....No I sigh . When you grow up you will know .
As a 77 year old I am amazed, having followed Jerry from when he first blitzed England how he looked so different as he aged, I saw him live about 15 years ago and he looked at deaths door, I have seen him lately on line and he looks better than he did then, what a guy...
A test of your real musical ability was to be able to hang with Jerry Lee on a song like this. He was so smooth and did it his way. If you couldn't move with him through the song he left you behind. Very few could hand with Jerry Lee. Elvis was pretty good at it. Jerry Reed was good at it, and Waylon Jennings could do it. But Jerry Lee would always be the guy in charge of the beat and delivery. No body delivers a song like Jerry Lee. It's all in the beat, and you either keep up with it, or
Elvis was in another world and league. Jerry was deliberate in his vocals but in no way could he get close to Elvis vocals and style. Let’s keep it real
Listening to this type music and especially the way Mr Jerry Lee Lewis does it, I think I can get a grasp on my daddies world long after his divorce from momma.
@jamcrane3 Who wouldn't ? But for me it's not a sexual thing. I just simply LOVE her and have been blessed to be on earth at the same time as this angel.
Wow, Jerry Lee in good behavior!!! Two icons here-both the best at what they do...even though opposite personalities! Seen them live individually many times-Jerry Lee when I was 16 years old at the Pagoda Café Montreal.
I think all of these guys leveled the playing field for each other. The most talent in music history came from these people and the set the bar absurdly high. There wasn't a time in music before or after that could even hold a candle to the way these people performed and when they performed they gave it there all. These guys were the best! Name one other person who could even play anything near to Jerry Lee, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggert, who we're all cousins. They all play the same way
I suppose I would add Leon Russell and Elton John to the list of great keyboard artists. Leon really didn't sing all that well, but Sir Elton was a complete package in his day.
I cannot resist this one. I keep coming back to it. The gorgeous, young Emmy-Lou and the, no question, legend Jerry Lee Lewis. She is impressed and rightly so but I love that look at "not mine, not mine". He has, like me, got to that "in your dreams" stage in life. She will never be his except in his dreams but oh how he wishes. The vocals blend seaminglessly and I will listen to it again and again.
She's singing the third part harmony.. yayyyyyy, which leaves the second part for me, which I usually sing anyway.. I must say, we sound good.. lol... Hey, look at me, Im famous !!!! :D !!! Thank you Jerry Lee and Emmylou !!!! :)
Jerry Leeds must be one of the hardest people on Earth to duet with. How do you pick your harmony with a man who never sings a song the same way twice? The only time he looks at her is the discouraging glance at 1.45. There's not much room left for anyone else once the Killer and his ego take the stage!
Emmylou Harris was so smitten by Jerry Lee Lewis piano solo, that she made an excited quivered vocal call, crazy arms that 1:38 "reach" to hold somebody new. The vocal message confused Jerry and caused him to forget the words. He also reassured the gorgeous Emmylou Harris of his position, still looking confused, saying "not mine, not mine."
This is really good, I suppose because I absolutely loved every thing Jerry Lee Lewis ever did, and Emmylou Harris knows no peer -- she is the best. But the most amazing harmony on this song was done by the original artists -- Ray Price on Lead, and Roger Miller on harmony. It was amazing. An original copy is very difficult to find. Lord, I loved and love all of these people.
@@flyerbob124 Ah, we said that about Lemmy then he was suddenly gone before we knew it. :( Jerry Lee is 84 and, in between health problems, still playing. He's outlived most of the early rock n roll generation, and half the ones who followed.

Very nice

Inspired duo.
Priceless.
That's Amazing.
awsum........this killed me.....dme on the edge of a precipuss.....
rip killer what a show you put on.
Wow!A straight Jerry Lee Lewis and Emmylou.
I was 4 years old when the Killer first released Crazy Arms. In 1972 or so I saw him play in Amarillo, Texas. Those were the days!
Rare... Jerry and Emmylou...
Absolutely. Jerry. Was the. Killer being. 76. Still. Rocking. Robert. V. Evans
Rest in paradise, Killer.
Two great singers
A great duo
LIKE IT WHEN JERRY SINGING WITH HIS SISTER THEY SOUND LOVELY TOGETHER
pieknie
Thanks for posting.
Jerry Lee rocks!
...mooi duo , "ouwe " Jerry Lee Lewis ...
Fantastic!
trop bon
When and where was this? I'm guessing early '70s. They don't make country music like that anymore, sad to say.
You can tell from start to finish Jerry Lee Lewis was not having it... This chick was blasted and he played along with his stiff back and precision. When was it recorded??
Oh What a lovely treat to find. The badest cat in country and the most beautiful...
Emmylou in Patti Smith mode.
WOW....what a duo. Awesome.
jättefint
Good combination there.
i don't know you don't like this !!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 people don't know how to rock
They make it wery, good! I like the song, too!
brill love it
How come country music doesn't sound like this any more?
I love them both but Emmylou’s harmony is louder than Jerry Lee’s melody. That spoils it for me.
thank you JLL for all your great music & entertainment you've given us. This one of my favorite songs of your many hits. God Bless you JLL & your family 6-23-21

Well said 👏
Yihaaaaaa Jerry Lee Lewis, great with Emmylou
Jerry lee is the last musician alive that made records in sun studio 😢THE KILLER ❤️❤️
Most people remember him for his main 2 or 3 rock n roll hits, but he has one of the great "lived it" country voices.

Yes, and it’s interesting that his first recording (this song) was country.
So true !!!!!!!

Happy Birthday Jerry Lee Lewis
(b.Sep.29, 1935).
there is Emmy Lou just singing like a angel and the Killer owning the stage...awesome video
Emmylou is so HOT in this video. What a doll . And the best female vocalist period.
Jerry Lee should have Kennedy Center honors years ago.
True!!! I'm angry for that
man, the killer could sing!
This is simply fantastic

super
Great cover of the classic Ray Price song! Btw, do you ELH fans know that she did most of the backup vocals on Dylan's 'Desire' album, mostly unnamed?
Indeed, a Ray Price song, although to be fair, Jerry Lee Lewis had a hit with it himself in 1956 - the same year as Ray Price.
I dont care if you like it or not. JLL and ELH together is fan-tastic.
jepp big great awesome yeehaa pure Hank
Truly a beautiful song, thank you for posting this great!!
Last man indeed

Still like old Jerry Lee. He tore up the 50s, came back in late 60s, & then in the 80s. Emma Lou Harris has never went away. Love to hear her sing.
Very late I discovered JL as a great country talent

This is by far the best rendition I've ever heard, even with a little fumble here and there.
Too bad we don't have a better recording of it.
Even with the graininess of the video it is truly a gemstone.
The real man and example of true and talented singer and pianist...the best!!! Love you Jerry Lee

It's part of tribute show to Jerry, and featured many artists, preforming and doing interviews etc.

Emmylou is gorgeous and an unmistakable, unique voice .
Hard to believe that Jerry Lee's the last man standing.
I’m not surprised. He is one tough son of a bitch and may out live all of us. God bless you Jerry for keeping us entertained all these years.
