The 49ers FO has always been upfront with players that they listen to all trade offers and inquire about other players. The only ones "safe" or "untradeable" are those that have dead money hits that can't possibly be taken. This is all part of the business. Deebo knows this as it's really no different to what he did during his holdout for the current contract he's on. And it hasn't been an issue at camp, with Deebo, Pearsall, and Purdy all balling out and having fun during practices this week.

In the bustling world of the NFL, where high-octane athleticism and raw talent are often celebrated, the nuanced art of route running can sometimes be overlooked. This is particularly true for San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver Deebo Samuel, whose route running skills remain criminally underrated by many NFL pundits. While Samuel's physicality and versatility have earned him widespread acclaim, his precision and craft in route running deserve closer examination and greater recognition.
Deebo Samuel is often lauded for his robust physical presence and ability to excel in multiple roles. Whether taking handoffs as a running back, catching screens, or breaking tackles in the open field, Samuel’s versatility is unmatched. His ability to seamlessly transition between wide receiver and running back roles has revolutionized the 49ers' offensive schemes, making him a cornerstone of their game plan. However, these standout traits often overshadow his more subtle, yet equally impressive, abilities as a route runner.
Route running is a critical skill for any wide receiver, demanding a blend of agility, speed, and tactical intelligence. It involves creating separation from defenders, maintaining precise timing, and making sharp, decisive cuts. Exceptional route runners can deceive defenders with their footwork and body language, turning seemingly straightforward plays into significant gains.
Samuel’s route running is a masterclass in subtlety and effectiveness. His ability to execute complex routes with precision allows him to create separation and find pockets in defensive coverage. Here’s a closer look at the aspects of his route running that deserve more recognition:
Footwork and Agility: Samuel’s footwork is a key component of his route running excellence. His quick, nimble feet allow him to change direction swiftly and create space between him and the defender. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Samuel's average separation of 3.2 yards per target ranks him among the top receivers in the league, demonstrating his ability to consistently create space through his footwork and agility.
Deceptive Body Language: One of the hallmarks of an elite route runner is the ability to deceive defenders. Samuel excels at using subtle body movements to fake out his opponents. This is evident in his success rate against man coverage, where he boasts a 65% success rate according to Pro Football Focus (PFF), indicating his ability to mislead and outmaneuver defenders.
Understanding Defensive Schemes: Samuel’s intelligence and understanding of defensive schemes enhance his route running prowess. He is adept at recognizing coverages and adjusting his routes accordingly. This is reflected in his catch rate of 74.5% on contested targets, per PFF, showcasing his ability to exploit defensive weaknesses and secure tough catches.
Physicality in Routes: Samuel’s physicality is not just useful after the catch but also during his routes. He uses his strength to fend off press coverage at the line of scrimmage and maintain his route integrity. His yards after contact (YAC) average of 8.2 yards per reception, as reported by ESPN Stats & Info, highlights how his physicality aids him in maintaining and enhancing his routes.
Despite these impressive attributes, many NFL pundits continue to focus predominantly on Samuel's versatility and physicality, often relegating his route running skills to the background. This oversight is a disservice to the complete player Samuel has become. His ability to run precise, effective routes is a foundational element of his success and the 49ers' offensive strategy.
Deebo Samuel is much more than a versatile offensive weapon; he is a masterful route runner whose skills merit greater recognition. His footwork, deceptive movements, understanding of defensive schemes, and physicality all contribute to his excellence in this area. As NFL analysts continue to dissect and debate player performances, it's time for them to give Samuel's route running the spotlight it deserves. In doing so, they will not only offer a fuller appreciation of Samuel's talents but also gain a deeper understanding of what makes the San Francisco 49ers' offense so dynamic and challenging to defend.

Sometimes it’s more than the money when being traded. What if your parents or grandparents or kids could come to every game before you traded, then you get traded and those loved ones can’t make your games anymore. I hate when people say it’s business. It’s human’s pushing themselves outside the norm to not be treated like humans with feelings and real life situations

Like Acho said. When you are 20 something years old and are a GREAT player you feel made at trade talks. BUT you need to realize that it is a business. Very few of these BILLIONAIRE OWNERS have loyalty to a person, player, city or team. They are in it for the money and most of all for the envious looks from their BILLIONAIRE friends.

Problem is they want someone who can separate in one on one coverage and currently he’s listed as a 1 or 2 WR. Typically those type of guys with his skill set would be a 3 or 4 but he’s so good at what he does you as a team can’t do that as his value commands him to be a 1 or 2….but what happens if he gets injured more or drop passes or can’t separate….he we are. This is why the niners moving the way they are.
