That day, Nadal wrote history by winning the tournament everybody was telling him he would never win.
That too defeating prime and peak federer
TheDazzler420 he always could beat primer and peak Federer. There’s never been a point where Federer has had a positive record vs nadal
But, he won again - in 2010.
Paul Casey lol federer lead nadal in grass and hard court. Nadal has advantage in clay no doubt. But they often met in clay court. Check your data moron
protosszergterran lol
Fedrer vs nadal
On hard court = 11-9 {fedrer leads by just 2 }
On grass court = 3-1 { fedrer leads by just 2 }
But on clay court = 14-2 { nadal dominates fedrer } .....
Here after the 2020 French final. There will never be another era of tennis like this one ever.
Hello
Seriously. They brought the best out of each other for sooo long it truly was amazing to see them constantly challenge each other. Definitely feel bad for other players (aside from Djoker) that rose up during such a tough time to make it to the top.
Right?! We are witnessing the 3 greatest ones to do it!!

Cant wait! 20 mins away.
@Adam Oliver a true sniper, splendid match
@Adam Oliver Not a fully satisfactory revenge though, Djokovic defeated Federer in the final.
I miss this nadal so much. Hard to believe he was just 21 and beating the king of grass in his own backyard.
He was 22 when he played this match.
It reminded me of how Fed took down Sampras in 2001
@@badabing8884 Lol. That's a huge difference.
Me too man- I know this sounds CRAZY but THIS NADAL WAS so *FEARLESS* and brimming with confidence. Raw yet powerful. Yes 2020 Nadal has so much more experience and GRAND SLAM glory but i feel this Nadal, with the tank top, Popeye muscles and piratas in total *HE-MAN* mode would absolutely demolish Djokovic no questions asked.
The king of grass was beaten by jdokovic as well!
Notice at 24:50 Federer's dad trying to help Nadal. He's even smiling graciously as he claps! No wonder Roger is so classy, his parents are wonderful.
Tennis will never be this good as it was this day, ever.
Martin James I disagree
ytomy how so?
Like it or not Federer had made too much unforced errors. For me AO 2012 final is far better. the quality of tennis in that match was absurd.
@@raedsakly2463 nah, boring baseline tennis, no variation
Federer was error heavy in this final and also Nadal was young and made Federer come back to a 5th set. At the end of the day Nadal was leading 2-0 and should have 100% won that 4th set. A more experienced Nadal would have won that 4th set.
Probably the greatest game in history of this beautiful sport. 10 years after I still have shivers and tears on my eyes watching Nadal winning.

Although after many years, I still think that this the the best GS final in tennis history
Remember before this final, Federer was 12-0 in GS finals off of clay. It literally took a herculean effort to beat a prime Federer in a best of 5 off of clay. Rafa did it 9-7 in the 5th.
Yep. This was nadal's 3rd attempt to beat federer at wimbledon. The first meeting federer won straightforward, 2nd five set win to federer. And 3rd five set win to nadal. Nadal doesn't come back from 2 sets down very often. When he beats federer he needs to get the 1st set, or the 2nd and 3rd after losing 1st set. Nadal was doing a borg, having got 4 french opens in a row, and trying to dominate on grass too. He kind of managed it. Not as well as borg though who I got five wimbledons in a row. Borg and nadal are so connected for me. I don't know why nadal stopped being good on grass.
Shaun Humphreys Nadal will win RG and WB this year.
literally?
Tesla Death Ray Yes. And he also will win US open mark my words.
that's fine as long as he doesn't win wimbledon
Who came here to this video today after the confirmation of Fedal semifinal showdown in 2019?
A lot of people
Yep!
Of course. And Federer was better today. Less unforced errors.
The backhand by Federer at 8-7 down in the 4th set tie-break has to be one of the greatest backhands of all time 🙌🏼
Totally agree
And it followed one of the greatest forehands of all time, the pass down the line by Nadal on the previous point to give him a match point.
I love Rafa’s approach to tennis. Every point matters to him. Every game matters to him. He’s relentless.
do not joke
Here after Nadal wins his 21GS at Aus Open. Another epic match with a lot of emotions. These guys Big 3 definitely on the different level.
Rafa was created by scientists in a secret lab to stop Federer from winning more slams.
Sollvi H one of their other experiments code name Djoker escaped into the wild to become a tennis great.
And that is how the big 3 were born.
Sollvi H too good. Ha ha haaaaa!
Sollvi H lol
Sollvi H Damn, this comment should be on the top! XD
Sollvi H Good one, I didn't expected that comment
That backhand from Federer when Nadal had match point is one of the best shots I’ve ever seen long lives in the memory
there was another one in the final game same situation that was very impressive as well, not shown in this highlights.
Lot of Nadal haters usually say "Nadal is good only in Clay". But Nadal has reached Wimbledon finals continuously for 5 years (2006,07,08,10,11 he didn't participate in 2009 due to injury) . Only Federer, Borg have reached 5 or more Wimbledon finals continuously other than Nadal , not even Great Sampras in that list .😮
The third US Open is here!
What about McEnroe?
Lot of Federer hater's say's"Federer is not good on clay".but Federer has reached the French open final for four consecutive year's (2006,07,08,09) winning it the fourth time in 2009.only nadal ,Borg ,ivan lendil has reached french open final's for 4 consecutive time's or more not even mats wilander😳😱.....
dixon abraham Only Nadal haters say Federer is bad on clay, to justify the imaginary weak clay era.
Will Santos Yex. Top 20.
It's 2024 and I still keep watching this match and it amazes me every single time. Magnificent tennis.
I remember it was this match that made me not hate Nadal anymore, cause I've always been a Fed fan, but this match showed me that Nadal deserved it, he worked so hard to win it, I respect him a lot. Still sad for Roger thought.
@man bat Djokovic won Wimby 2018

@@haboihabtm3276It's about Wimby 2018 which Djokovic won. Know your role and shut your mouth dummy.
@man bat so cute
And now its 2018, after 10 years they are still battling for rank 1 and 2 and only roughly 100 points is the difference between them... Has tennis ever been better before these two ?
Muhammad Elias Melad they play tomorrow lol
There have been a number of much more compelling rivalries in the history of men's tennis than Federer vs. Nadal. Laver vs. Rosewall is one example. Another is Tilden vs. Cochet. Yet another is Connors vs. McEnroe. Borg vs. McEnroe was a much more interesting rivalry than Federer vs. Nadal. Granted it is all a matter of taste.
Michael Barlow I agree it's all a matter of taste but I'm sorry Roger vs Rafa is the greatest not to mention they are the greatest tennis players to have ever lived. I've seen my old tennis matches but I'm blessed to have been around to see these two more than any others. Of course, my opinion...
HTX Kiri Jalen djokovic is one of the greatest too and what about his and nadals rivalry?👀
Rory O Hanlon He is but I'll give him top 10. He doesn't have enough power even with his great return game, and most of his H2H wins against Nadal and Federer came later in their careers with Djoker still being in his prime.
7 years old at the time. Watched this match with my parents. Was completely enamoured. Greatest tennis match of all time and one of the best sporting events ever imo. Also remember watching the 2007 final thinking Roger was just simply too much on grass. Will never forget July 6th, 2008. Rafa is the best to ever do it.
Djokovic is arguably better.
Wow look at all those flashes from camera at the winning moment. Never seen anything like that in a slam winning moment. Historic match and moments.
Those were the days... pre smart phone era. Makes everything seem quite vintage.
This was THE tennis match. Nothing has or will ever compare to it. As good as it gets.

This was absolutely Epic... Perhaps the greatest match ever played by two of the finest champions Tennis has ever known. ..Not only a match of the highest quality.. but all the more remarkable given the incredible level of sportsmanship and respect between the two players.
I would say Nadal - Federer - Djokovic / the best players tennis has ever seen.
@@ZAOUWV yes
@@ZAOUWV I don't think many will doubt that, insane that they all played in the same period,
Sorry, Nadal can't be in the greatest game on grass court. Look elsewhere (hint, what people has most Wim.titles?)
The 08 Wimbledon, 09 Aus open and 10 US open finals. Nadal at his peak was unplayable. In that mode he was simply the greatest tennis player of all time
What about 2008 roland garros? 6-3 6-1 6-0
@@matteo964 Nadal has always been exceptional at Clay tournaments. This was his peak at the other courts which turned him into an all court player. So this was his actual career peak.
Absolutley best player to ever play the game is Healthy Nadal, beating Roger in Wimby,Novak in Us Open and not leting anyone touch him on clay is just marvelous.
Peak at 21?
Got destroyed by Federer and Soderling on clay during his peak, lol
Who came here today after Federer Djokovic? Arguably classic match along with this one right here crazy how long it's been.
Nadal defeated Federer at Wimbledon while Federer did not beat Nadal at Roland Garros.
And this moment of their career the history of tennis will retain it.
He had chance again, but he didn't, he couldn't, he can't beat RAFA on clay, nobody can, not even Djokovic
ಪ್ರತೀಕ್ ಕಶ್ಯಪ್ Nadal is very good but he’s hurting himself playing his style. That’s why he suffered long injuries which prevent him from getting more titles. But then again, sometimes, being able to last long and thrive where other top players cannot is the key to become champion, like Federer did.

Bibhuti Khatiwada the Federer and Nadal comeback finals in AO 2018 was pretty hype.
Yes! wanted to reminisce :) Probably my favourite sporting memory...of any sport. One of the reason this stands above other meetings between these 2 was the 'build up', Nadal had just beaten him comprehensively at Roland Garros, and Fed then declared he was more comfortable on grass anyway, and was still the best. Subsequent meetings were great too but this one was crucial.
Ted - I know... Nadal should have won that match 😔😔
Christopher- AO 2009 is unforgettable too... Nadal won.. and Federer's teary " it's killing me" comment at the trophy presentation ceremony.... these two are pure hearts.. 2008.. 2009.. was Nadal's peak years.. but he lost in the FO.. what a shocker it was!! I don't ever want them to retire 🙌🙌

There are so many heart breakers for Federer and this one is first one of them.
11 years later we have another Federer Vs Nadal on Friday.
Yeees!!!
Here after Rafa’s 22nd GS title and this one remains my favorite of his, by far. Still impressed by Fed’s fortitude to come back from down two sets and down 2-5 in the fourth set tiebreak. Baffles me how some think he wasn’t as mentally tough as his two counterparts
He needs way more chances than the other 2. He's good in making comebacks. But his problem is to close out matches I'm a big Fed fan, but sadly he lacks the killer instinct. If he had that , he would be the best ever without even a debate.
Yes it was amazing but my favorite game was in 2012 ao final. He played against novak. It was epic.
I am big fed fan... But with this horrible backhand.... How he has won so many major title.... He lack mental toughness.... 2019 Wimbledon final.... Is the prove....
Federer lost 24 matches having matchpoints, Djokovic 3, Nadal 8. He isnt even close
love it when grandslam social media accounts put in extra effort and release videos like this; the Australian open RUclips page is the best for it
That 4th set tie break had to be one of the most incredible of all time. Some monster shots were fired by both players through it.
I was 10, and my father was a huge tennis fan. He was out golfing that day and left during the first set… he came back after a full 18 holes and the game was still on! I treasure the memory of watching the final points of the fifth set with my Dad.

Indeed
Roger would have lost in 3 straight sets if he had not had his great serve which helped him a lot in the tie-breaks, Rafa was playing unbelievably the whole match and he totally deserved the historic trophy.
Hey man, I could beat Rafa in straight sets if it wasn't for his great footwork, returns and baseline shots!

The situation was too different compared to the 2008 final.
The fact that he beat Roger, who was close to his peak, was the crowning glory of Rafa's glory.
This is like beating Novak at the 2016 Australian Open.
Many pointed to Novak's decline in the WB final at 2023, and Novak was too old for a great rivalry.
Federer normally gets over losses quickly, but he admitted that this one stung for a very long time.

I didn't watch a lot of tennis matches in my life but from what I've seen this is really the best match. I remember it summer of 2008, I was 15 watching this match. Good times. Everyone thought Nadal is going to do much more than he actually did after this. Injuries prevented him from reaching his full potential.
@@FearsomeVoid He won 22 slams. What else could he do LOL
@@speedymr Win more than 22, Đoković won 24 and it looks like he will win more. He could have won more GS than Đoković, having a better head to head record with Đoković, win more Masters. He never won Paris and Miami for example. He needed them for his Career Golden Masters. He never won the Swiss Indoors Basel and ATP finals either. Maybe Nadal could have achieved all that if not for injuries. And ofc he would have become a better player than he already was, like winning more on other surfaces than clay. Keep in mind he won GS on clay, grass and hard court in 2010 before injuries messed his knees up.

Perhaps the greatest ever tennis match
A day after Federer announced his retirement and endless talk of legacy - well this right here is legacy. Federer was arguably playing his best tennis and was a threat on all surfaces, Nadal got the better of him on Federer's favourite surface at the age of only 22. Legacy.

Greatest match in the history of tennis period
Best. Match. Ever.
I like how the abridged version of the highlights of this match (while making time for narration) is still longer than if I played a beat of 5 match against either of them
The final that had everything! Domination by underdog, comeback by the champ, match points saved, drama, lights and a hell lot of action! This was the benchmark for years to come!
But that's the beauty of these 3 knights. The disappointment was surpassed in AO 2009, quality surpassed in AO 2012 and Wimbledon 2018 (semi), drama surpassed in Wimbledon 2019, clutch surpassed in AO 2017 final set(Roger)!
