I had the same problem. I didn't buy myself a new coat. I need it but just kept using the old one and getting cold and wet each time. I finally brought a new coat - it was cheaper than expected and I am so happy being warm and dry. I was punishing myself for no reason.

A similar thing happened to me and I quit minimalism completely. I moved around a lot as a child and a young adult and I started to realize minimalism was a way for me to manage my fear of moving, because I could pack easier and leave a place faster. I realized as a creative person I was limiting myself only because of the fear of moving next, and that I wasn't allowing my creative mind to expand. So I decided minimalism wasn't for me because of it.

Oh, that’s curious. Do you move a lot now? How does you packing look like?

Same here girl.. also happened to me. I also applied minimalism and zero waste lifestyle too much and I restricted myself so much than I was not happy anymore.. but it’s 4 years ago.. and now I am enjoying it.. we learn on our own mistakes😊

thank you for sharing this. It seems a good idea to bring minimalism to fit your needs rather than trying to fit a super high ideal. It seems that it is all a matter of balance and reflection. For most of us, we are still struggling with sticking to not buying unnecessary things. Our minds say "hey, of course you can have some take away coffee, hey of course you can have some new notebooks" whereas we do not need that. Your mind has become too good at restraining unnecessary purchases and it seems that it got overly strict with you in the process of doing so. Mind you...for you there is also the hidden extra pressure of being a youtuber. I mean your mind might also say" hey you cannot have this, you are a role model, you are a minimalist youtuber. what would people think of you, had they known you have TWO knives instead of one". My general advice to youtubers is that whatever the issue, always consider how the fact of being a youtuber might have something to do with it. well done for yet another thoughtful video. And hey, it is all in the process!!

You are very right. Everything is fine in moderation. And it’s useful to regularly reflect on your lifestyle and whether or not you are extreme in some thing. I definitely lost that feeling of balance for a moment. To be honest, I don’t feel like I have to fit that image that people make of me, maybe because there’s not that many people follow me yet. I think my biggest problem was the fear, in particular fear of losing money in this unstable time.

  • @sbyco

I defnitely recognise this issue with myself. In fact I had the exact same issue with forcing myself to have one knife for ages. Now I have 2 (a large one and a small for different jobs) and it's much more practical. I think I also got a bit extreme with clothes which meant I had to wash clothes all the time. Now I have enough clothes that I only do my laundry once a week. I still have a lot less than most people.

Like anything it can be taken too far. I have always been a clean organized, minimalistic person even as a kid. I at times have taken minimalism too far. Learning to find a balance is key and do minimalism in a way that works for you.

    Hola!
El minimalismo es bueno cuando nos permite ser más felices. Es una herramienta. No un fin en sí mismo.
No seas tan estricta contigo misma 🙂.
Disfruta de aquello que te hace bien.
    Saludos! 🇺🇾

I feel it's great to be frugal but I'm glad you bought some necessities like another knife. Life is a journey and you should enjoy it. Having another knife to help your hubby with dinner is so good for your relationship. So glad you bought another one. I see people these days buying unnecessary "STUFF" and just smh. There's so much unnecessary debt and too much stuff in the world.

@@victoriavlasenko also when I watched your video it reminded me of when I found out I had food allergies a few years ago. I eliminated those foods (soy, wheat, almonds) completely from my diet and I went overboard on eating healthy. I lost 70 lbs in a year and got so thin my family thought something was wrong. I didn't realize how much I was depriving myself of food. It took me a month or so, but I relaxed a bit on watching what I eat and got back to a healthy weight. Your video reminded me of that because I think we sometimes get lost in what we do and go a little overboard.

an irrelevant question too. as a minimalist and a person who thinks creatively about not spending too much on things , what do you think of apps/schemes /organisations that allow people to "housesit and take care of the pet too" without paying for their stay? I think I should not write specific companies here. Do you find it risky? I am planning to look more into it..

    • @SynterraSteen
      @SynterraSteen Год назад +1

I would look into getting paid to house and pet sit. People are willing to pay for that service.

    • @victoriavlasenko

I know only one app that can offer such things here in Ukraine. But I’ve never tried it myself. I’m sure it can be a relevant request, as a pet owner I can totally imagine the situation where I need help with my pets. So I think it makes sense, but it’s better to inform your family or friends if you’re going to be in unusual circumstances where it can be risky to stay.
