In recent years I've come to think that culture war is probably the single most socially devestating cultural phenomena of our time. Purely because how it effects every other issue and prevents us from actually making progress on issues and legally and culturally, we just get stuck in this stalemate tug of war. But I've also realized I can't say that while being like "my side of the culture war is right and the other side wrong and progress means that people I disagree with just totally accept my beliefs" As much as I hate centrism for centrism's sake I think we need some kinds of centrism for the sake of actually coming to some kind of equilibrium on issues. But I think the internet really disincentives that, people just react to extremes be becoming more extreme and inflexible on whichever side they're on, every single issue becomes catastrophize to the extent people feel like there's no middle ground to be had so we'll just be at eachothers throats trying to score a victory against the other side. Maybe it's just that I'm getting older but it's all just so fucking exhausting.

Dishonored, Wolfenstein New Order and Collosus, Evil Within 1 and 2, Doom and Doom Eternal, Prey, Hi-Fi Rush, Deathloop (debatable, but definitely better than Bethesda Fallout games), Ghostwire: Tokyo; these are all stellar games. Incidentally, (excluding idSoft games) these are all games developed by Studios that Microsoft just axed. It's a bit silly to say that remarking on this detracts from the argument. It directly supports it. The only good games tied to Bethesda have nothing to do with Bethesda Game Studios, and their success came despite their ties to Bethesda. Bethesda Fallout games are played today because their modding community supports them, just like Elder Scrolls. It's a mainstay of gaming despite capitalism. The last good Fallout game was made by a studio that regularly and loudly puts gay characters in their cast. The average Obsidian game's party is every chud's worst nightmare. Their diversity seems to keep churning out great games and new IPs, while Bethesda slowly kills off the best game studios of modern gaming and puts out increasingly more broken games that are all "Oblivion with a twist".

Am I in the minority in thinking that diversity in games is a good thing, but it loses its meaning when the game/developers choose to make the diversity the sole focus of the game? For example, I’ve always loved the Tomb Raider series of games, the fact that the main character is a woman isn’t even something I stopped to think about. But when you play the most recent Saint Row game, you have to constantly hear the characters spout some social commentary that becomes white noise eventually. I think diversity and inclusion is great, but when the story/gameplay is lacking because the devs put more effort in the former rather than the latter the game is garbage.

I have to say- this channel is one of the most underrated channels on the platform. The last few years I had grown to dislike the “commentary” side of RUclips. I think much of the content within this genre has shifted more into reaction videos, with little to no analysis or proper research gone into them. If there is any analysis, it tends to be very surface level imo, with a lot of creators just reacting to obvious rage bait content and going “wow guys, this videos really bad and wrong”. This channel is the complete opposite. Firstly the level of research that goes into these videos is incredible, it’s so meticulous. But also the structure and analysis that you provide within these videos, genuinely inspires me. The way you discussed- the og Gamergate, the current cultural frenzy about wokeness, the treatment of Sydney Sweeney and Gamergate 2 and managed to weave all these topics together cohesively is just incredible. And the beginning explanation of Overtons Window, giving context to the over arching theme of the video was just ✨chef’s kiss✨. You have an incredible skill and talent at this and the amount of work and effort that goes into your channel is evident. I hope you’re channel grows and grows and that more people tune into your videos. Lots of love from Ireland x
reactionary gamergate people get so caught up in bad actors that they completely ignore we got stuff like dark souls 3, gtav, bloodborne, uncharted 4, and witcher 3 when gamer gate was going on. even now, we got elden ring and bg3 back to back. if games are actually that bad, people wont buy them and they'll get filtered out anyway. they are getting mad at nothing. they really don't care about the games themselves nor journalistic integrity, they are just using it as excuse to validate themselves in right wing cesspits.
Five examples, of which 3 are foreign companies and one is gta, which is about to release a rather sussy iteration. And then elden ring (japanese studio, third example from that one source) and BG3 (which is woke, but actually good, and a total outlier because of it). Sorry, but this is just cherrypicking. And if you're cherrypicking, it's because you can't afford to tell the truth.
