  • Over this mini series Im going to show you whats involved in stripping down the TR6 engine for refurbishment. While doing it well take the opportunity to refresh some of the parts and in particular the challenge of changing from a high torque 125hp CR version engine to the 150hp CP version engine.
Other upgrades along the way will be a lightened flywheel and improved cooling.
So strap in and enjoy the ride. As always feel free to comment and subscribe to the channel. Always love to hear your feedback and aim to respond to all contributions.

I originally started off with a Mk 1 GT6 modified it to 2500 with big carbs and high lift cam different crank etc , then onto a wonderful Mimosa yellow TR6 , it use to eat clutches and so i became good at changing them, the thrust bearing on the clutch is operated by a rod that you can see, mine actually wore through the rod that is.
Eventually i removed the fuel injection and put 1. 3/4 Stroms on it ( they had worked on the GT6 ) and that halved my fuel consumption, I have always missed my TR6 and have its original number plate on my study wall in Sisaket Thailand OBJ i wont put the rest in.
For my sins i now have a 1990 Mercedes R129 SL but still miss my old TR6.
All i can say is yep been there done that, Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Watching that is like going back in time.My first car was a 2.5 PI which I'd bought before I was old enough to drive it at 17.
My Dad taught me to drive it and the examiner was surprised when he asked me to take him to the car for my test.
I learn't all its weak points like the end float issues with the 4 main bearing crankshaft among others but could probably rebuild that nice simple lump without looking.
The 150 hp thing was always interesting but having compared the Mk1 and Mk2 2.5 I'm sure that the rumours that the Mk1 had the wilder cammed TR5 150 spec engine as standard were believable.
Also the overdrive interlock could be changed to provide overdrive on 2nd gear like the TR.I actually would have preferred the Mk1 2.5 much more character than the Mk2.
Can also remember another 2.5 owner forgetting to put the end plugs in a new rocker shaft which had turned it and the rockers to scrap within a few miles.I progressed from the Triumph to a BMW 3 litre and then Jaguar V12.
But never forgot my time with the big Triumph and never liked working on OHC engines as much as the simpler pushrod motor.

Surprised you are using this blue sealing material. My experience with it it is quite mediocre to put it mildly.
