  • This is the world's easiest ice cream to make. I made this homemade ice cream video outdoors because we're having an old fashioned Pig Pickin' and we had a hankering for some freshly churned vanilla ice cream to eat while we waited 15 hours for the pig to cook.
    We bought a 150 lb. pig and David built the cooker. I'll be uploading the Pig Pickin' instructional video shortly. In the meantime, why don't you churn up some fresh ice cream for you and your family?
    Ingredients:
    1/2 gallon - Half and half
    1 1/2 cups - Sugar
    2 teaspoons - Real vanilla extract

    Becky I can not tell you have much we have made ice cream this way. When I was growing up and went to see my grandmother, my uncle would be sitting on the back porch making ice cream and he did not have a electric ice maker. I have a electric one and use it. Seeing this make me want to make some now. Guess I need to go get some ice in a few days. I have you and your family in my prayers at this time. Love you sweet lady. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend.

    Hi Becky. So good to see you. It's so beautiful where you live. Love the open land like that. Here in California, we all have fences or mason walls in our back yards. I love how you showed us how to use and make homemade ice cream. It looks delicious. Your Husband was having a fit for some of that ice cream! LOL. Thanks for sharing and God bless you & your family. :)

    My parents had a hand crank machine like that. Our ice cream never made it to the freezer. We always ate it immediately. It didn't matter if it was hard or not. I guess we were pretty impatient - at least me and Dad!! TFS!

    I love it! We did this with a handcrank ice cream maker as kids. In the backyard because mom was not have'n that mess in her house. Us kids took turns on the crank. It was done, or done enough, when we just couldn't turn the crank anymore. 😁

    Thank you for making this video. Boy, it sure conjurs up some summertime memories. Every 4th of July, dad would get out the ice cream maker and mom would mix up her delicious ice cream, and we kids got to crank the ice cream maker until the ice cream was firm. Dad would add the ice and salt while we cranked. I thought it was great fun. What a great invention that automatic ice cream maker is, huh?

    That's SUCH an American thing to do, I just Love it, either you're expecting a really big crowd to visit on Labour Day or you and Samantha are going to be working on 'A million ways to serve Roast Pork' between now and Christmas.😁 In the UK this is called a Hog Roast my brother's friend had this as his Wedding 'Breakfast' instead of being traditional and it was a big hit, hope yours went well. Your Ice cream looked fabulous. You were right about how much Ice it took though, still you did get a gallon of gorgeousness, my weeny one makes less than a pint!

    gino its a more coarse salt that holds up to help keep the ice from melting.......ez to find in the big box grocery stores..
    i made a jamocha chocolate sauce to go over mine.........oh yeah

    • @camarogs1
      @camarogs1 4 года назад

      No no, it helps to make the ice melt and when it melts into a slurry it drop to a lower temp than the ice itself. If you just used ice the ice cream would never freeze because it takes a temp of about 27 degrees to make the ice cream freeze. If the never melted it would not freeze the ice cream. :-)

    I have a problem..I bought me a ice cream freezer just like the one you have here...first batch of ice cream I made (vanilla)..it came out perfect..I have made 2 more batches since then..one chocolate and one vanilla..I had to throw out both batches as they tasted salty..why...I know I was getting the sugar from the sugar sack as I used it to make candy..what am I doing wrong for it to taste salty now..I am going to make some for a baby shower in a week and I need it to taste right...help please...

    • @TheHillbillyKitchen
      @TheHillbillyKitchen  6 лет назад +2

      Debbie R. My best guess is that you are getting water from the ice into your ice cream. Make sure the canister is straight and level so it doesn't wobble and keep the level of ice at least an inch below the top of the ice cream canister. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    • @dgrkar2002
      @dgrkar2002 6 лет назад +2

      I tried to make some again yesterday and I realized that the canister and a hole in the bottom of it..it was a new freezer..so not sure how that hole got in there..took it back to the store and traded it for another new one..I am really hoping that that was the problem with my ice cream having the salty taste to it..I knew I had the canister in right...But I will also remember to keep the ice lower than I was keeping it...Thanks for the help and advise..
