Sooooo....no tempering of your eggs? That's incredibly cool. I'll try that this evening on my New Hampshire homestead. Thank you for being so informative, funny, and of course, kind. Exactly what this world needs right now.

The flour will stabilise the eggs so they don't curdle.

Thanks for the good memories. I've told y'all this before... when I was little daddy would put a few folded burlap sacks over top of the old crank ice cream maker & I had to sit on it to help hold it down while he cranked it. Not bc I was heavy but bc I was the youngest & my hiney didn't get in the way of him turning the crank. 😂🤣😂 xoxo

Oh Ms Lori, I searched everywhere for this recipe like my Mom always made, before July 4th. My kids had come home and I had bought a new ice cream freezer. All that's out there all made with heavy whipping cream, which I used and didn't like, so thank you so much. I can't wait to try it, I'm like Mr Brown, I can't help eating way too much. You guys stay safe and cool, blessings

I remember going to the ice house and getting a chunk of ice and sitting on top and churning all different kinds of Ice Cream. I hated churning it but I loved eating the ice cream. I remember the ice cream was ruined if you got any of the salt in it. ✌🏽?💖

I loved this video, and the ice cream you made looks delicious! As for fingernails, I just want to mention. Years ago when working at the family store, a male customer made a comment about my nails, saying I should'nt "chew them". I kindly informed him I don't chew them. I keep them short because I am always working in the garden and yes sometimes they do get stained. What they see is'nt dirt, it's staining from hard work in the kitchen & gardens :-) Sometimes people don't understand it unless they've lived it. Have a blessed day!

Looks good. High-speed countertop blenders also work well for making ice cream.
We had the old-fashioned, hand-cranked, wood bucket ice cream freezers when I was a child. Too stiff for us to work when the ice cream froze, one of the strong neighborhood men would help to empty the heavy metal cannisters.
The large; cast metal dashers were always mine when Mother's fabulous ice creams were finished. They were begged for all year long and she made several flavors to go with her fabulous cakes.
Years ago, ice for the home freezers was sold from trucks that drove through our neighborhoods in blazing hot summers.
Blocks of Diamond brand ice were bought from machines at local gasoline stations. They were used constantly to make ice for the big red Coca-Cola coolers we loved. Never more than a dime for glass Coke bottles dripping with ice water. Fun stuff from the Good Old Days.
The cord for my favorite Waring electric ice cream maker was lost in a move during Mother's long illness several years ago.
I kept the working machine in hopes of finding a thrift shop replacement for the cord. The machine, no longer made, is a motorized version of the wonderful old-style wooden ones that required ice and rock salt to freeze their metal canisters. It makes gourmet-quality ice creams and sherbets.

Just like my mother made! I live in north Mississippi but I’m familiar with Pollard and Piggot, Arkansas since my aunt lived in both of those towns. She lived to be 107 years old and my mother, my sister and I visited her 2 or three times yearly. We loved going to flea markets and antique stores on our trips to visit her. I loved driving through the Arkansas delta and then arriving in the hills. Very similar to where I live.

This looks so wonderful! We also loved your Buttermilk Ice Cream and have made it more than once! Like you and others, I have great memories of my Dad crank churning ice cream on the farm. It was the BEST! In the 70s, I purchased a Salton ICE CREAM MACHINE MAKER Model IC-4 and it takes no ice at all. It churns by sitting the entire little machine into the freezer, the cord plugs in, and the door always shuts and seals around it. I have never seen another model like it, but have purchased like new ones since on eBay. It works so well and I don't know why they don't make this type anymore. You can hear it running through your freezer and when it's done, it shuts off automatically. It only makes a quart at a time, but it's so nice to not have to get ice or freeze something ahead of time and place in the machine. Even though I love it, I love when people use the old-timey ice cream churn just to recapture the memories. The Amish still do it like that all the time (my ancestry is Amish) and it's always good to have a non-electric ice cream churn as a back up. I will trying this recipe, too! Thank you!

My ice cream maker suggests starting it up before adding any of the ice cream ingredients. Otherwise, it might start sticking to the sides and he difficult to start. Yours is probably bigger/stronger than mine because it didn't seem to have any trouble starting for you. It looks delicious and is exactly what I was looking for. I'll be making it Monday for July 4th. In some ways, I wish we still only used the hand crank ones. My kids never experienced that. It was so much fun when we were little to be able to help make the ice cream. Of course, Dad always had to finish, but we "helped"! Such great memories of a time long gone.
    Bless you both.

I love the way you smile with your eyes. Mr Brown is a hero, all that taste testing. You remind me of my Grandparents farm from the 50's in Gloucestershire UK. The dishes that my Gran used to make, traditional fayre. But taste that doesn't come out of a packet. I had the good fortune to live outside Naples Italy for 3 years, when there was much poverty in that part of Italy. But oh the food, the lessons I learnt and was reminded of. Food fresh from source and on the table. Most good food is uncomplicated. One particular favorite was scrapping small shellfish from the beach sands and 10 minutes later in a pot of pasta, some herbs and Spaghetti Vongole. Thank you for all your video's, you are a beautiful couple - well maybe not quite Mr Brown. Keep smiling, keep safe.

But back in the early 50s, that was yummy and we didn't worry about any contaminants. It was so good. We would eat so much, we would get headaches. 😅. I love peach icecream. Have you ever made Butterfinger ice cream?? Long ago Butterfinger candy bars came in only one size. They were about 5 -6" long! Put your candies in a plastic freezer bag and slide the lock or zip the bag. Next beat the candles with your rolling pin. Or whatever? ?? Add the candy bits to your cream base, stirr well and freeze the ice cream in your ice cream freezer. You need very little sugar in the base. Use about four or five regular size. Candy e bars.

That ice cream looks delicious! I'm gonna try this. I just got a small ice cream maker, and didn't have a good recipe.

I always shy away from making custard because of having to temper the eggs. I’m always scared of making scrambled eggs... lol. I’m going to give it a try.
    Be blessed.

This looks yummy! We’ve never made ice cream with custard, we just use half and half, sugar and vanilla and a dash of salt. It’s probably not as rich. I’ll have to talk my husband into trying this, he’s very particular about his homemade ice cream!
