  • My first job was at Baskin Robbins and one of my absolute favorite flavors was Lemon Custard! This is not like a sorbet where juice is used, it's not tangy. It is a mellow, creamy flavor, so good!

    I am saddened the restaurant took this flavor down. The silver lining is that there are videos like this, that have the recipe. Thank you for posting this.

    I just made this, this morning. I will be waiting until it freezes a bit harder after several hours in the freezer, but it tastes great.

    One of my favorite BR flavors, too! Also, as a child I recall a lemon ice cream bar that I got at the store. It had like a vanilla wafer crumb coating and was so delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe and bringing back some fond memories. :)

    Many years ago (40!), I had the very delicious "Lemon Mousse Royale" ice cream from Baskin Robbins. I have never seen it since then, so I am very interested in your lemon custard recipe from BR. Thank you very much for posting this. 🌻

    I've now made this twice in barely over a week's time. Then, i combined the basis of it with another recipe on here and made coffee ice cream today.

    Lemon Custard is all-time fave! Homemade is surely best, but in a pinch, the only manufacturer I've seen lately who still makes it is Mayfield. Even then, not all stores carry it.

      Sooo good! I did not know Mayfield carried it too! I'll have to check it out.

    WOW, this brings back memories. AS a kid we had a dairy within walking distance. They had many flavors. But my favorite was their lemon chiffon. No one makes it anymore. Braums use to but it didnt sell so they discontinued it. Sadly, I'm not suposed to have sugar. I wonder if I could use a sugar substitute and have it turn out the same?
    Thanks

      A low sugar would be nice, like Truvia???

    Sounds great! I have a question, how did u get your lemons to store since winter? Did u do anything special prior to putting the lemons in the freezer? I have a lemon tree and searching for ways to preserve them. Thank u and love your videos. 💖🙏🏻

      After harvesting, I used the juice from the fruit (mostly in sparkling water) but removed the zest before juicing. I froze the zest for use in desserts.

    This looks yummy and I will have to make this. How do you keep ice crystals from forming when you freeze it? Thank you.

    • @RainbowGardens
      @RainbowGardens  5 лет назад

      I have not experienced ice crystals. However, the potential for them to form happens when I cool it in the fridge. Water droplets form on the lid of the dish and I have to remove it carefully because they may fall into the mix and form ice crystals. Also, the directions for the ice cream maker state ice crystals may form depending on the amount of salt used to melt the ice. Apparently if it freezes too quickly or slowly, there can be an odd texture.
