For me, I would have been far happier if Azerbaijian's win was with this song. In my opinion, it would have blown everything else away if it competed back in 2011. I mean, that mirror rose petal box choreography. Come on.
And Farid himself... That's a top 3 face you've got there, sir. 😘

I didn't even like the song that much prior to performance, but after seeing it and understanding the meaning behind the performance, even to my surprise, it became my favorite of this year and even my favorite Azeri entry ever. I consider this one of my biggest grower studio vs. performance.
As far as the whole performance, If I remember correctly, the man in the box was supposed to represent his soul/essence or something like that, which is in sync with him, when he's alone/on his own, but when the woman (love interest) appears, it goes wild and against his judgement (rose petals flying inside, not in sync with him anymore, but rather mimics her moves). Someone please correct me, if I'm wrong, but I remember being explained as something along those lines.

You are right: the firm box is his mind/logic and the man inside is his heart and emotions. When love comes, they are not in sync, as the director explains ruclips.net/video/E4c6UqvjsuE/видео.html

@@tomgrener5645 We can all agree Fokas is kind of a genius. His ideas in most of the performances he has directed are clever: Greece 2005, 2006 opening and interval acts, 2007 Belarus, 2008 Russia and Ukraine, 2009 Greece, 2013 Azerbaijan, 2014 Russia, 2016 Russia, 2017 Greece, 2018 Moldova and Azerbaijan, 2019 Russia and Spain, 2021 Greece and Moldova

Genius staging, competent (and hot) singer, the song is... well let's just say this is a performance I would normally watch without sound.
ETA: Why does that woman have a spine down her, uh, spine?

The funniest thing for me is that this performance was parodied in Russian-language humor competition KVN by the Ukrainian team, where they used a glass cube, put one of the actors inside of it and he acted like he was about to suffocate and possibly pass away because he had no access to oxygen (the joke was that they performed in the venue in Jurmala in Latvia that lacked some walls, like "how someone would've passed away because of suffocation in the venue that lacks some walls?"), and they also made a joke that this ended second and that was not as dangerous as the performance for the first place, because Emily performed barefoot and that is actually dangerous because she could've fell over the guy who suffocated in the glass cube.
ruclips.net/video/4pzcPSUWBXA/видео.html - the first minute and the half of the performance is that parody and all the jokes that I explained.
PS. The joke was great, but the only problem was that Emily performed before Farid.

None of the top 3 really stood out for me this year, but Farid with his box was probably the best of the three. This was great televisually, but other than that not really special

i never understood how this could finish 2nd, the performance is just so much better than the (very very) average song. most overrated entry of the year imo

A solid song, but nowhere near the 2nd place for me. Interesting staging, but I actually find his facial expression (like he's constantly about to start crying) slightly annoying. 🤷‍♂️
