Citizen is one of those watch brands that doesn't get enough attention. They do provide great value for the money, but I think they get overshadowed by Seiko. Thank you Teddy for focusing on this Citizen model with the beautiful yellow dial.
Maybe they should not release their affordable, pretty watches in select Asian countries then if they want more. My sympathy is woefully absent here given their profit margins.
I didn't realize how new this watch is/was! I got it Mid August, I couldn't resist that yellow dial! It looks more like a butterscotch candy in the sunlight. The bracelet is probably the most comfortable I've ever worn. The links are so small, plus with the micro adjust, it fits perfectly. Mine definitely runs fast and setting the date is an absolute pain! But, I really like the crown being recessed into the watch, just feels so comfortable on the wrist! This is an absolute favorite for a bright and sunny day, which is almost all year around here! This is my Sam Adams watch....always a good decision!
Miyota 8000 series movements are known to be pretty inaccurate and generally low quality. I think Teddy was wrong to say it's close to the 4r movements of Seiko.
The 4r movement is just Seikos crappy, bottom of the barrel, 7s movement with hacking and hand winding, no other difference. The advantages over the Miyota 8000 series (if you care about them) are that it hacks and has a bidirectional rotor, but it's no more accurate than the 8000 series. Some people even claim it's less accurate, but realistically they have the same -20/+40 seconds per day accuracy.
@@BlagoP You are probably right, but in my experience 4r movements have kept better time than 8000 series movements. And those have a louder rotor as well. 9000 are much better though
True but... That's just a point in history. Citizen has all legitimity doing an integrated bracelet watch, they've been doing it since the 70's, as long as Tissot. And Tissot became the cheap Quartz and entry level brand of the Swatch group to get the citizen $ in other times...

Ive been periodically visiting the citizen website just to look at this watch and make sure I still like it. The yellow dial is nothing short of stunning and it’s certainly on my pick up list.
Hey Teddy, this has had its movement updated. It now includes hacking and hand winding. If you buy the watch now it'll have the updated movement instead of the previous version when it was exclusive to Asia.
the watch can be purchased for $ 280 at Macys ,,,,,,, it looks much better in person then the TISSOT ...... the bracket issues are very much over stated ,,,,,, the movement is much better than what Seiko offers at this price point ..... I tested one on a timegrapher and it was accurate to 3 seconds a day with strong amplitude and very little beat error ..... it has a sapphire crystal where as Seiko gives you a dopey mineral crystal ..... Citizen offers for more value for money then the other major brands at the lower end
Thanks for this short review. I was about to buy PRX... but, I bought the CITIZEN just 2 hours ago the green dial... I like it very much... of course there're PROS and CONS but for Euro 255 you can't ask more.
These are easily available at authorised dealers here in Austria. The yellow really does stand out. I actually prefer the stamped clasp as it is thinner, more comfortable and does not stick out like the more bulky clasps are. Thin does not mean lack of quality. I have fifty year old watches with thin light bracelets and they still function perfectly
Agreed. I hope citizen starts to utilize the solid designs they are already coming up with for other markets. For the US market they have really leaned into the department store model which tends to overlook pieces like this.
I find this attitude confusing: Modulo what's legal where, the whole world is one market. If Citizen don't sell a watch where you are, why not just order it from a seller in another country? (Sincere question.)
Coming from Teddy I can see why people will give in to not finding it as a good watch. But, coming from me, who has worn it almost everyday, it is very comfortable. For whatever they’re selling now, I do recommend. I bought this exact dialed model for $315. Definitely worth it. It is made well. It has weight to it. The build is robust. The presidential bracelet is definitely comfortable, and the case itself sits comfortably on your wrist. My Citizen watch collection is now up to 6 watches, but when I only had 2 watches, the Tsuyosa and the black stiletto, I did wear the Tsuyosa everyday for maybe 2 months. It’s one of those watches that just stands out. Truly have gotten so money compliments on it, since that yellow dial stands out a lot! I respect Teddys opinion on this watch, but truly you’re getting waaaay more watch than its worth in my opinion. I haven’t seen what they’re going for now as of mid-January, but even if its $350-$400, In my opinion its way worth it. It has a Sapphire crystal, mineral glass back crystal, stainless steel case, bezel, bracelet. So this watch will definitely hold up. Obviously depends how the wearer treats it. If you’re looking into getting the Tsuyosa… get it. If you can get your hands on the yellow dial, you will not regret it once you see it in person. Once you have it sized and adjusted, you wont want to take it off.

To me its really a no brainer even for 350/400 bucks since it is really hard to find here in Europe as well. Wanna keep one in the closet and see what happens when it will be discontinued years from now... ( maybe another Seiko alpinist Sarb017 story !?) In Italy this one was sold out already two months ago, now Citizen is distributing those again, problem is that the shops must order all the references available for this market (4 - Green, Blue, Black, Yellow) and while the yellow ones are sold out before they even arrive at the shops (believe it or not there are people in the waiting lists to get one), all the other references are harder to sell and therefore shops here just order 2/3 pieces each four months.People that know I have two are already chasing me up with offers to get one believe it or not.
I got mine just before Christmas, in Germany, and mine also has a second stop. Due to the high demand, Citizen has installed a movement higher without marking it.
With the recent Seiko QC issues, i'd choose Citizen any day over Seiko. the design, spec and price is just perfection. this model definitely needs to be released for international market rather than just some Asian market.
Decided to go with the white quartz Tissot PRX (the only quartz in my collection), and the Citizen Tsuyosa Tiffany blue NJ0151-88M (was after the yellow one since the start, however when I saw the Tiffany blue ....) . Love them both. Great video as always Teddy.
I like Citizen and have 2 now and really enjoy wearing them, don't feel guilty as they are affordable, but wasn't sure on this one and needed Teddy's seal of approval. I'm more than happy to get it now. Plus the black one is going for £170, so what am I waiting for! Great video as usual.
I won this watch, and had so many complements. The one I have has the green dial. I really like the style, the size and it’s wearability. Good bang for the money. Of course it has its short comes like the clasp and the inconstant design language with the rounded bracelet and the edged case. But all been said I really like it. It’s a lot better on my wrist than the PRX as it has 45 mm lug to lug. Thanks Ted for the review.
I think the citizen NB1050 would be the watch you should be talking about Teddy. It's more refined , has hacking, better dial, smoother sweep and you can swap out the bracelet with a leather strap if you don't like the included metal bracelet.
I 100% agree with this, the NB1050 is a far superior watch with a better movement. They need to release this one with an integrated bracelet, (or even a titanium option).. These cheap models are just a cash grab, hypetrain thing.
I have one in the black dial. I love it as a daily driver. +7 to +12 per day, mitigated when leaving crown up at night. The clasp is pretty bad but the bracelet looks great and looks a lot more expensive than it really it is.
I bought this exact watch. It is a masterpiece. It is beautiful to look at, the color of the dial as well as the angles and the finish are top rate. The only complaint is the clasp, it works well but for a few more dollars I would like to see a superior clasp.
They've been available in Europe for several months now. Sold (out) pretty fast everywhere. Nearly no stock atm. And there are only four colors (green, yellow, black and blue) here. I think the American market is pretty comparable. It will sell there very well as well. Btw. From Asia you can get an ice blue one. I have it and love it. You can also get a two tone, a camouflage, a fumé blue and a red dial in gold case and bracelet.
Just bought the Yellow. The yellow face is metallic and the bracellet is smooth. I bought it because my fave color is yellow. This watch looks way better in hand and people stare at my wrist alot 😁👍🏾
Watching this 1 year after it was posted and I can definitely say that the Tsuyosa is readily available in the US these days. I’ve seen them at big name jewelry stores and online retailers like Amazon and eBay. I was just at Jared’s last weekend where I tried on both the prx and tsuyosa and I gotta say that I’m leaning more towards buying the tsuyosa. The main difference that stood out for me what how comfortable the tsuyosa is. I honestly think it looks and feel better than the prx. Another big selling point is how much cheaper the tsuyosa is too. Waiting till Christmas to pull the trigger on one.
Just recently bought the tsuyosa blue dial for 240€ on sale here in Central Europe. I also tried the prx but the tsuyosa fits better on my wrist. It's a great looking watch for decent money

Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the amzwatch, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
I have an old Citizen 21 from 1972. Looks the same, but with day date. Has the same crown position and requires a crown winding tool even though it is an automatic. Keeps excellent time +4 secs a day. Bracelet gave out long ago, so using a croc skin leather.
This was on the table when deciding what my everyday auto should be...I went for a Tisell Explorer 36. Better movement, better wearing dimensions, standard lugs, DAMN GOOD BRACELET and overall that proven Rolex design...
FWIW: Due to delivery bottlenecks, Citizen has partially installed the (superior) 8215 movement without advertising it much. In particular, watches produced in late 22 and early 23 indeed DO have hacking.
It was quite the wait to get my hands on one of these here in India. The Citizen store here prominently advertised it, yet had none in stock for months on end. It was only 3 months ago that I chanced upon one and jumped at the opportunity to get it, and at a discount at that. It's a great fit and I look forward to the day I get a PRX to complement it with.
I snapped the green version of this for £220 in London. I actually for a Seiko 5 SKX from the store for around £250, so could bargain a bit on this piece. Looks great so far. Don't know such kind of discounts on watches are possible. New to watches.
I just received my Citizen Tsuyosa in the same color. Was surprised to see that it does indeed hack. I googled it and apparently newer Miyota 82 series have this feature. 👍
Just got this watch for $200. Not a precision instrument, nor does it have the fit and finish that even my Tudor Black Bay 41 has…….but for the price, it serves its purpose well. The dial makes it more of a fashion watch IMO but even though the clasp is a cheaper style, I find the bracelet more comfortable than my PRX. It’s a fun watch at a very competitive price for an automatic movement.
I've just bought 2 of the prx blue and green dial they are absolutely beautiful watches I recommend any1 to pick up 1 of these, they look great on the wrist

September 2024 these are available in the USA. I bought mine in Japan anyway because I think that’s a cool story ❤ Had I bought in the US I would have saved $19.50 after tax. I bought yellow, but also really liked the Tiffany blue. Yellow was the right choice. It’s so radiant in the light. I love the jubilee band & despite the cons teddy brought up, I think I will be very happy with this. I’ve only had it for less than 24 hours. My first foray into citizen. I already have a Seiko 5 champagne dial with a Milanese band.

I recently bought the one with yellow dial and I was pleasantly surprised that it has hacking. I found out that the ones that were produced earlier in fact did not have hacking, but the newest one does.
FYI - This watch line isn't sold in Japan, although they do have the NB1050 line which is similar but is 38mm with the 9000 Miyota series and no cyclops.
I bought a blue Tsuyosa NJ0150-81L . This watch is really nice, it runs +10sec / day, wears fairly comfortable, and easy to size, and looks good. I got a super deal and spent around 220 euro buying it. The handwinding experience is bad, so the best way is to use a finger tip, and roll the underside of crown to wind it. 10 -15 times is enough if the watch ran out of power and stopped.
can you confirm, that there really is no second stop to set the time? in youtube there are some videos, where people experience a second stop, while some dont. that is kinda strange
@@David2580 The time and date can be set just the same as any other regular watch, however the seconds hand does not "hack" or stop running while doing so.
Next the citizen nb1050 all 3 colors are amazing the case is better than anything south of gran seiko the movement is a 9011 so solid the lumes better the hands are the same besides the second hand and the lume the hour markers are nicer with clean duel finishing and overall it’s this watches daddy in every way even down the the clasp and bracelet they kicker must be the price right? WRONG it’s only 50-100$ more for what we really all want out of citizen. It’s also got the duratec coating and it hasn’t scratched yet but it will dent lol
i own the yellow, imported it from asia, for a regular guy and watch head, its a great summer watch, very shiny, confy. the yellow dial in the sunlight is very nice i dont think comparing to the prx is fair due to price is more than double. good video mate!
@Teddy I inquired directly, and citizen support replied that newer models, from the end of November perhaps, had caliber 8210 with hacking function. I just wished they announced it publicly.
Just purchased this watch in the green dial variant. Looks really good but the wrist band is where I feel like it falls short. But overall satisfied with my purchase. Best bang for your buck
I picked up a few in Vietnam and Singapore. They're very nice in person, but the colours aren't quite what you see online. I've got the dark blue, yellow and cyan/tiffany. The green is also nice, maybe better than the dark blue. But I've already got a green dive watch. The integrated bracelet means the watch fits very nice on the wrist but downside will be if you need to replace it
Haven’t tried either one yet but it looks like Citizen is going to make a significant dent in the PRX market. Especially once it is released to the North American market.😊I think this is the first yellow dial watch I’m seriously considering picking up.❤
I had one of these yellow Tsuyosa. Very important points to note: 1) the movement is the loudest I ever had ... not generally bothered, but this one was almost like having a cheese grater on wrist; 2) the bracelet is decent, but edges are a bit sharp; 3) the slight metallic sheen of the yellow sunburst dial looks a lot better than on screen. Anyway, for the price this is an excellent watch. If you like it, buy it... just don't pay above RRP.
In europe they are also available bought the black dial and for the price point its a good watch the clasp is indeed the only thing that feels cheap but the rest of the watch is nice
This is somewhat like the Seiko Recraft series of automatics in my mind, just for a different style of watch. They make for a great introduction to automatic watches as they are simple and still good looking, while also lacking some features that might otherwise go unnoticed on more expensive offerings if you jumped straight to them instead. I got a SNKM97 on sale for just over $120 not too long ago, and it's taught me a lot about owning an automatic. Previously I've only owned quartz movements so it definitely takes some adjustment, but seeing the movement work and hearing it tick when you hold it to your ear is definitely rewarding. I now know just how much I'd like a hackable movement though!

What do you think about the Citizen Corso? I ordered the all black one and it arrived today. I've been wearing it for about 8 hours and so far I like it. The bracelet is thinner than I was expecting but it's light and comfortable. Micro adjustment would have been nice to make it fit a little better but I think I'm going to enjoy wearing this watch.

Hey Teddy I'm not sure if they did a silent revision but I just got my Tsuyosa NJ0150-81Z in today and it definitely hacks. Based on some old forum threads I dug it it looks like hacking was added to the 82- series a couple years back. Does your Tsuyosa not hack?

Mine runs fast two it almost gains a couple of mins a day is that the case with yours as well ?

Can this citizen be adjusted? I adjusted an eta2824 before and kept the time very well after. not sure if this can be adjusted

Citizen makes better bands and has better customer service. PRX doesn’t care if you are a customer or not.

In Germany they've been sold out at almost all Retailers in about two weeks. The other dial colours are still available, but the yellow one, sheeeesh.

I just bought the yellow version today, Teddy, and mine DOES hack. Miyota have upgraded their 82xx movements and the latest version does hack now 😁👍🏽
I got 8210 in mine NJ0100-46L.. Its a movement from 1974.

This is a great automatic from a reputable brand. I’d hold off until it came down a little in price first but even at $300, this is pretty good.

I like Citizen and have 2 now and really enjoy wearing them, don't feel guilty as they are affordable, but wasn't sure on this one and needed Teddy's seal of approval. I'm more than happy to get it now. Plus the black one is going for £170, so what am I waiting for! Great video as usual.
I won this watch, and had so many complements. The one I have has the green dial. I really like the style, the size and it’s wearability. Good bang for the money. Of course it has its short comes like the clasp and the inconstant design language with the rounded bracelet and the edged case. But all been said I really like it. It’s a lot better on my wrist than the PRX as it has 45 mm lug to lug. Thanks Ted for the review.
How does the battery work? Do I have to replace it every so often? I have an eco-drive citizen watch, so it might be a hassle to keep changing it.
I think the citizen NB1050 would be the watch you should be talking about Teddy. It's more refined , has hacking, better dial, smoother sweep and you can swap out the bracelet with a leather strap if you don't like the included metal bracelet.

I 100% agree with this, the NB1050 is a far superior watch with a better movement. They need to release this one with an integrated bracelet, (or even a titanium option).. These cheap models are just a cash grab, hypetrain thing.
I have one in the black dial. I love it as a daily driver. +7 to +12 per day, mitigated when leaving crown up at night. The clasp is pretty bad but the bracelet looks great and looks a lot more expensive than it really it is.

I bought this exact watch. It is a masterpiece. It is beautiful to look at, the color of the dial as well as the angles and the finish are top rate. The only complaint is the clasp, it works well but for a few more dollars I would like to see a superior clasp.

Hope Citizen will also offer it with the smoother highbeat 9015 movement, which would also allow them to make it thinner.

They've been available in Europe for several months now. Sold (out) pretty fast everywhere. Nearly no stock atm. And there are only four colors (green, yellow, black and blue) here. I think the American market is pretty comparable. It will sell there very well as well.
Btw. From Asia you can get an ice blue one. I have it and love it. You can also get a two tone, a camouflage, a fumé blue and a red dial in gold case and bracelet.

Just bought the Yellow. The yellow face is metallic and the bracellet is smooth. I bought it because my fave color is yellow. This watch looks way better in hand and people stare at my wrist alot 😁👍🏾
Watching this 1 year after it was posted and I can definitely say that the Tsuyosa is readily available in the US these days. I’ve seen them at big name jewelry stores and online retailers like Amazon and eBay. I was just at Jared’s last weekend where I tried on both the prx and tsuyosa and I gotta say that I’m leaning more towards buying the tsuyosa. The main difference that stood out for me what how comfortable the tsuyosa is. I honestly think it looks and feel better than the prx. Another big selling point is how much cheaper the tsuyosa is too. Waiting till Christmas to pull the trigger on one.
Just recently bought the tsuyosa blue dial for 240€ on sale here in Central Europe. I also tried the prx but the tsuyosa fits better on my wrist. It's a great looking watch for decent money

Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the amzwatch, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
I have an old Citizen 21 from 1972. Looks the same, but with day date. Has the same crown position and requires a crown winding tool even though it is an automatic. Keeps excellent time +4 secs a day. Bracelet gave out long ago, so using a croc skin leather.
This was on the table when deciding what my everyday auto should be...I went for a Tisell Explorer 36. Better movement, better wearing dimensions, standard lugs, DAMN GOOD BRACELET and overall that proven Rolex design...
FWIW: Due to delivery bottlenecks, Citizen has partially installed the (superior) 8215 movement without advertising it much. In particular, watches produced in late 22 and early 23 indeed DO have hacking.
Mine says 8210, still has hacking. Got scared it was fake for a second

It was quite the wait to get my hands on one of these here in India. The Citizen store here prominently advertised it, yet had none in stock for months on end. It was only 3 months ago that I chanced upon one and jumped at the opportunity to get it, and at a discount at that. It's a great fit and I look forward to the day I get a PRX to complement it with.

I snapped the green version of this for £220 in London. I actually for a Seiko 5 SKX from the store for around £250, so could bargain a bit on this piece. Looks great so far. Don't know such kind of discounts on watches are possible. New to watches.

I just received my Citizen Tsuyosa in the same color. Was surprised to see that it does indeed hack. I googled it and apparently newer Miyota 82 series have this feature. 👍
Thinking that yellow dial is great! Definitely different and stands out. A conversation piece at a party.
It’s also half the price of the PRX if you get an automatic in both. I just wish they would put the crown back in the proper position at 3 o’clock.
From other videos I've seen it does have hacking, only con for me is the 50m water resistance, I'm going to be picking one for sure
Just got this watch for $200. Not a precision instrument, nor does it have the fit and finish that even my Tudor Black Bay 41 has…….but for the price, it serves its purpose well. The dial makes it more of a fashion watch IMO but even though the clasp is a cheaper style, I find the bracelet more comfortable than my PRX. It’s a fun watch at a very competitive price for an automatic movement.

I have it but will be bringing it back. Wore it for 48 ! Hours, ran almost 15 ! Minutes behind and after an hour it stopped.
September 2024 these are available in the USA. I bought mine in Japan anyway because I think that’s a cool story ❤ Had I bought in the US I would have saved $19.50 after tax. I bought yellow, but also really liked the Tiffany blue. Yellow was the right choice. It’s so radiant in the light. I love the jubilee band & despite the cons teddy brought up, I think I will be very happy with this. I’ve only had it for less than 24 hours. My first foray into citizen. I already have a Seiko 5 champagne dial with a Milanese band.

I recently bought the one with yellow dial and I was pleasantly surprised that it has hacking.
I found out that the ones that were produced earlier in fact did not have hacking, but the newest one does.
I just bought this today, it’s way better in person, that dial is beautiful.👌
FYI - This watch line isn't sold in Japan, although they do have the NB1050 line which is similar but is 38mm with the 9000 Miyota series and no cyclops.

I bought a blue Tsuyosa NJ0150-81L .
This watch is really nice, it runs +10sec / day, wears fairly comfortable, and easy to size, and looks good. I got a super deal and spent around 220 euro buying it.
The handwinding experience is bad, so the best way is to use a finger tip, and roll the underside of crown to wind it. 10 -15 times is enough if the watch ran out of power and stopped.
can you confirm, that there really is no second stop to set the time? in youtube there are some videos, where people experience a second stop, while some dont. that is kinda strange
@@David2580 The time and date can be set just the same as any other regular watch, however the seconds hand does not "hack" or stop running while doing so.

Next the citizen nb1050 all 3 colors are amazing the case is better than anything south of gran seiko the movement is a 9011 so solid the lumes better the hands are the same besides the second hand and the lume the hour markers are nicer with clean duel finishing and overall it’s this watches daddy in every way even down the the clasp and bracelet they kicker must be the price right? WRONG it’s only 50-100$ more for what we really all want out of citizen. It’s also got the duratec coating and it hasn’t scratched yet but it will dent lol
i own the yellow, imported it from asia, for a regular guy and watch head, its a great summer watch, very shiny, confy. the yellow dial in the sunlight is very nice
i dont think comparing to the prx is fair due to price is more than double.

@Teddy I inquired directly, and citizen support replied that newer models, from the end of November perhaps, had caliber 8210 with hacking function. I just wished they announced it publicly.

I picked up a few in Vietnam and Singapore. They're very nice in person, but the colours aren't quite what you see online. I've got the dark blue, yellow and cyan/tiffany. The green is also nice, maybe better than the dark blue. But I've already got a green dive watch. The integrated bracelet means the watch fits very nice on the wrist but downside will be if you need to replace it
I bought one a couple of weeks ago sodium jewelry store thought it looked nice in a teal color and it is very comfortable to wear

I had one of these yellow Tsuyosa. Very important points to note: 1) the movement is the loudest I ever had ... not generally bothered, but this one was almost like having a cheese grater on wrist; 2) the bracelet is decent, but edges are a bit sharp; 3) the slight metallic sheen of the yellow sunburst dial looks a lot better than on screen. Anyway, for the price this is an excellent watch. If you like it, buy it... just don't pay above RRP.

In europe they are also available bought the black dial and for the price point its a good watch the clasp is indeed the only thing that feels cheap but the rest of the watch is nice

What's the difference in this Tsuyosa NJ0150-81Z and the NJ0150-56Z listed on the Citizen website? Both have the same dial color?
This is somewhat like the Seiko Recraft series of automatics in my mind, just for a different style of watch. They make for a great introduction to automatic watches as they are simple and still good looking, while also lacking some features that might otherwise go unnoticed on more expensive offerings if you jumped straight to them instead.
I got a SNKM97 on sale for just over $120 not too long ago, and it's taught me a lot about owning an automatic. Previously I've only owned quartz movements so it definitely takes some adjustment, but seeing the movement work and hearing it tick when you hold it to your ear is definitely rewarding. I now know just how much I'd like a hackable movement though!

What do you think about the Citizen Corso? I ordered the all black one and it arrived today. I've been wearing it for about 8 hours and so far I like it. The bracelet is thinner than I was expecting but it's light and comfortable. Micro adjustment would have been nice to make it fit a little better but I think I'm going to enjoy wearing this watch.

Hey Teddy I'm not sure if they did a silent revision but I just got my Tsuyosa NJ0150-81Z in today and it definitely hacks. Based on some old forum threads I dug it it looks like hacking was added to the 82- series a couple years back. Does your Tsuyosa not hack?
