Thank you for this incredible episode! I was "educated" on the topic from my older brother and camp friends. I really struggled with not having been told by my mother, despite trying to ask her for information. Ended up with serious issues with body image, thought I was a terrible Jew for being attracted to boys.. it was pretty bad and I ended up with a severe eating disorder and depression. When my sisters were reaching puberty, I asked my mother to speak to them. She was so uncomfortable with the topic so I told her if she wasn't comfortable with it, I would, because it was so important for me that they had someone more mature to speak to. They both were so happy I told them early and asked me many questions over the years, especially as they reached dating age. I am super open about the topic (obviously age dependent) and found this so helpful as a practical guide and also reassuring that what I am doing is okay.
From the recommendation made in your interview with Eli Nash (GO WATCH/LISTEN TO IT IF YOU HAVEN'T!!), we bought and read From Boys to Men. No one ever had "the talk" with us, no one ever explained or discussed this incredibly important topic with us. We figured it out as we got older. This book is a game changer. It's an easy and quick read, the "how to have the talk" makes up about 10 pages, and it covers the hashkafa questions from every angle. It's fantastic. If you're awkward or uncomfortable with discussing with your children, this book will guide you. Step. By. Step.
Man. I wish I had a father like you, Zimmerman. I wish I had a father to begin with 😢 😂 Raising myself as an adult hasn't been so bad actually, I do need to get rid of this expectation that I gotta "catch up" though.
Yasher Koach!! This is a super important episode!! I've been waiting for someone to write a male version of the "purple book" that females have for decades. Thank you so much.
Excellent information!! Wish this interview would have been done sooner, this has been an ongoing issue, it's imperative for parents to know this information, thanks for this wonderful interview, I learned alot!
I’m not Jewish; Orthodox Catholic, but this talk was excellent. In times past, parents could get by with keeping this topic “unmentionable,” at home, until right before the wedding! This is no longer the case. It’s even more important than seeing to it our children receive the best academic and religious education.
Katholicisme is a disaster. You are doing great because you pose the rightful questions. Thank you for this modern open and yet connected interview. 🙌🏼
Oh, it would be so helpful to provide the definition of some of these terms. They seem to be very relevant to the conversation, but I can’t look them up because I’m not sure how they spelled.
So incredibly important, than you Doctor Zimmerman. This is a triumph- and we can only imagine what level of resistance you faced from the rabbinical establishment
@@LivingLchaim- I have heard 25 minutes and agree with the original comment. No offense, but some things should not be spoken in ambiguous and esoteric terms, especially for a preteen or a teenager. You need to spell things out in simple and understandable manner. This is sex education not a philosophy class.
@@americanbobtail1 I don't know your background as far as Jewish Orthodoxy is concerned but if you watch the entire episode the messaging is abundantly clear - nothing ambiguous about it. The author of the book unequivocally stated that his book was vetted by Rabbis in order to present a current day approach to this topic that is in line with Torah values. This is NOT a sex ed class. It is a healthy framework to relay to our children for them to have a fulfilling Jewish life with a proper understanding that these topics are part and parcel to our struggles on this world and that overcoming and being proud to overcome these challenges will only serve them in the future in all areas of life.
Phenomenal interview! Must watch for parents.

What is an "arts girl"?
I haven't seen the episode yet, but could you perhaps be referring to Artscroll, the Jewish publisher?
We think you mean “Artscroll” one of the biggest Jewish publishers
💪ful
Hi, what's the book called? And where do u buy it?
From Boys To Men by Dr. Shloimie Zimmerman. You can buy it in your local Jewish boom store, Amazon or via LivingLchaim.com/drz
I
You should NOT have had a female co-host for this particular episode.
7 1/2 minutes in and nothing but the vaguest statement about what they are talking about. No wonder there is a problem.
Keep watching! Trust that there is no beating around the bush…
