    Finally young people into CUSHMAN! I have a collection from 1948 to 1962 civil airborne, couple of standard eagles, a super eagle, and a highlander.
    My dad gave me a 59 standard eagle in Jr High, could work on that thing blindfolded huntsman red is the color 8hp husky
    Have new-old stock parts I am wanting to sell. Reach out!

    I restored a 1958 Cushman Egeal Sundance orange 🟠 back in 1972 , mine was stolen from the garage after I left 4 the Marines , Love the sound , clickity clank clank clank, every Cushman sounds the same ♥️‼️

      Amen.. I pulled one out of the brush, got it going well, and rode it all over.Picture me going across the golden gate bridge in the 60's.. leaned over in the wind.. 45.. adjusting the main jet for the last little bit of speed into the wind and fog. you betcha. wont be 18 again anytime soon !

    On my 1959 flathead with the high performance camshaft I also have the 22mm Makuni Carb. I use the #30 pilot jet, the needle valve E clip at the second from the bottom position, and a #150 main jet. Was using a #140 main jet with the original stock camshaft. The pilot jet is for the first 1/4 throttle. The needle valve controls 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, and the main jet controls full open throttle. The original factory carb was a better design for high speed tuning. All you had to do was reach under the carburetor and turn the adjustment T valve for maximum power as you cruised down the highway. Be careful though. Very easy to burn your arm on the exhaust pipe. I also was able to advance the timing by about 5 degrees by elongating the magneto plate bolt holes with a small rat tail file for allowing the plate to be turned slightly to the right. The slightly protruding crankshaft oil seal allows the magneto plate to remain centered. That's the reason why when installing a new crankshaft oil seal there is supposed to be 1/8" left from pushing it all the way into the housing. The valve adjustment is done by carefully grinding the ends of the valve stems. Go slow or you'll grind off too much and end up buying a new valve. Fortunately, the valves are cheap. The valve adjustment on a flathead engine is .014" to .016". It's almost impossible to adjust the valves without removing the engine from the frame. The easiest way is to check the adjustment, grind off a little, and recheck. Once you've achieved the adjustment you want, the easiest way to compress the springs and install the keeper is to have the engine upside down on the bench. I have my intake valve set at .014" for maximum lift. The exhaust valve is set at .016" for maximum heat dissipation from the valve head to the valve seat. The intake valve has no such problem with heat because it's cooled by the intake air. Both valves are still within normal tolerance. Also, using the high compression gasket didn't seem to make any difference on power? A compression release isn't even necessary.

    Points should be .002”. With piston 7/64”before top dead center.

    That back firing is indicative of Retarded timing.. unless there is an air leak in the exhaust system

    Easy fix // rebuild // give it 6 more hore easly
