Tibetan name "Gyatsho" means ocean. Mongolians leaders call him Dalai because "dalai" in MONGOL language means ocean. Around that time China was just a colony of Mongolia. It was cruelly ruled by mongol viceroy called Kublai khan. There was no central or middle kingdom then. In mandarin ocean translates to "haiyang". In cantonese it is "Joeng". Maybe cccp should offer the fake Panchen lama, (selected via lucky dip among ATHEIST officials 🤣🤣🤣) the title of Haiyang Joeng Blama.
I am one among many who grew up in CST, but my Tibetan is embarrassingly poor. When I was in school I always wonder why Tibetan subject is so difficult. English is not our language but it was lot more easier and fun for some reason which I don't understand back then. It is not that I dislike Tibetan subject, but it was not fun like english and I always feel guilty about that feeling. I silently wish my tibetan were better then my english but I don't know how to make it. those tibetan teacher were not helpful and unskilled in any trade. all I remember of them was beating us most of the time. And during winter vacation at home, when your Mother pull out that red and blue stripe envelope that smells like incense and asked you to read that neatly written "kyuk yig" by your Monk uncle in south India, you feel like someone just kicked on your groin. it is painfully embarrassing. Now that when I look back I can not believe that we, many of us literally lived in the school for "twelve years", and after the graduation, many still don't know how to write a decent letter in our own language. I was not the smartest student but I wasn't that slow either and so as many like me, I believe that after 12 years of learning we shouldn't have problem on at least basic reading and writing, but in fact, many of us do including our sikyong. lol ( we are from same school) I totally agree with Geshe Jinpa la. like a good doctor, Geshe la caught where this symptom is rooted. And he came up with this cure which need to be tested but he has to hold it back because some geshe scholar and some of his student were against this approached?? but why?? This little change in system is meant for people like me, who want to read and write very basic tibetan language, it is not for higher academia. So why can't we have it? On the other note; I don't understand why Geshe Jinpa la need some sort of permission from those other Geshe or his former student to come up with this guide book, or "how to read and write Tibetan for dummies"?? And also how come lot of us do not know about this new approach By Geshe Jinpa la. I came to know from one of his previous interview, similar to this one. I believe this reform or new idea has to be on the table of every Tibetan community to be discuss, if we are serious about our language. It will be pity if this will disappear up in the air just because of some Geshe doesn't like it. Does these scholarly Geshe knows that Japanese have three types of completely different writing?? why can't we have just two style of reading and writing? not two different types.
@@Bzdm0 Yes you are right, TY. Changes had been made. Most of the subjects were taught in tibetan language nowadays, but I am not sure how much progress has been made. I also do have nieces and nephews from TCV with good grades but their tibetan are somewhat mediocre. Particularly when they talk, it is saddening to listen. It is not just my nieces and nephews; I have noticed many are in CTA and to my dismay, some are working as reporters or anchors for RFA and VOA. I have noticed some of the reporters when they interview guests, they know the question but they struggle with wording and sentences, and they themself end up answering half of their own question. Some lack the flow and the fluency when they speak. The problem here is that most of them came from CST or TCV which have their own spoken dialect that doesn't belong to any region of Tibet. Now when they work for Tibetan language news broadcasts they have to relearned wording and sentences. That is one of the reasons when they speak there are lots of Ahh and ouu and takes a bit of time to register proper words in their brain. It is sad, really! I have seen on RUclips that some college and university students in India, interviewed by TTV. I may sound a bit harsh but to be honest they sound like peasants when they talk in front of the camera. They don't act like a confident young full of life university student. There is still a lot to change needed in the system. Again when they speak, they struggle with the flow of words and sentences. Many grammatical errors. If you compare our kids with other kids; let's say for example American kids, if you let them talk about something that they know. They will explain it so clearly and speak with fluency. There is no time delay from their brain to their tongue. It is not that there is something wrong with our Tibetan language. Matter of fact our language is a very beautiful language if you really know how to speak properly. I am not just talking about lhasan dialect but each and every region and village including nomadic tribes has its own charm and eloquence when they speak their unique dialect. Each and every dialect has their melodic rhythm and fluency when spoken. It is very beautiful language.
Whether or not to modify Tibetan language is to be decided by the collective efforts of Tibetan teachers who closely work with students for many years. Those who know the flesh and bones of Tibetan students must talk about it. For some one who lived in the West for half of his life, who married to Canadian woman and lived a western lifestyle, who failed to raise his own daughters in a Tibetan way, who failed to teach Tibetan language to his own daughters ... absolutely cannot have the authority to speak about the need to make changes to the Tibetan language. Let Tibetan language scholars in India decide what is good for the Tibetan youth.
The Tibetans students from TCV and CTS have zero knowledge of the Tibetan language, we are told only stupid and less intelligent student is put into Tibetan class. Shame on CTA. People like Kaydor can not even read or write Tibetan, and yet he is standing for Sikong. Can you please name a single country where the leader of the country doesn't know how to read or write the country's language? Is it shameful that we have politicians and leaders who don't learn Tibetan. Kaydor thinks his child doesn't need to learn Tibetan, shameful.

I don’t think it’s the same now though. I have cousins who are in TCV and CST and they can write in Tibetan fluently and it read it with ease too.
