I hope that I never see an empty space where I keep my Rare Breed. For that matter, where I keep my Russell's Reserve Single Barrel either. Great show as always. Cheers!
This is the perfect follow up to your previous video rationalizing buying expensive whiskey. Great example of how super high prices are not justified other than rarity.
I've only ever spent that much (or more) on a single bottle - a 24-year-old Black Art from Bruichladdich. As much as I love bourbon, I don't think there's any bourbon made that could entice me to spend $400. Wow.
I definitely prefer bourbon and rye much more over single malts, so I could never spend that much on a Scotch (though I will say the price point of depreciating returns is much higher on Scotch, it seems like the higher priced ones are consistently better than lower priced, unlike bourbon), but I could never spend more than $250 on a bottle of bourbon. Its just doesn’t get any better to where its worth it past that
Had my first sip of Wild Turkey Rare Breed a few nights ago and boy let me tell you SHE BANGS! That spicy sweetness with those subtle baking notes on the palate kept getting better with every sip became my favorite sipper under $60!
When it comes to bourbon quality is so in the eye of the beholder I can't possible understand paying multiples of MSRP. Again Rare Breed demonstrates not diminishing returns but non-existent returns! Thanks guys.
So all the stores in Oklahoma suddenly have this at $100, so I don't know if the market starting to collapse or something happened to Kentucky owl itself
Always a fun show, thanks for another good one. If you’re taking suggestions, I’d love to see how Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey (this may be a rebrand of the George Remus?) stacks up to Elijah Craig Small Batch in one of your blinds. Please keep up the good work, think you.
I’m so glad you guys finally got to try Kentucky owl batch 12 and even better, in Josh’s infinite wisdom, paired it against wild turkey rare breed. I got Kentucky owl batch 12 for 100 bucks before I knew what it was. Wish I bought a case but I’m glad I got it for the price I did. Loved the review.
lol I love this video! Thanks guys! I was lucky enough to get batch 12 a couple of months ago at a store in my area that had multiple cases for $120 per bottle. No way I would buy for $400 but at $120 I thought I couldn’t pass it up.
Rare Breed has quickly become kind of a dividing line for me. Stuff that I don't like as well as it... has to be cheaper than it for me to replace it... And this has saved me restocking a TON of bottles... The stuff that beats it and is actually attainable... I know is stuff I need a backup of. JDSBBP rye, Knob Creek Select picks, etc. That said, even with the recent price bump around me... Its still a $50 bottle that I think is about the perfect choice for an everyday sipper. Maybe with KC9 as a cheaper option for an occasional change of pace that also serves as a mixer, when needed. Then anything I find that's better than Rare Breed becomes an occasional sipper.
"I don't watch sports games"..... hmm. Hard to accept heat for my fandom from someone who doesn't "watch sports games". We still love ya Erin. All good. Another good episode.
While I've never done a blind, side by side I've enjoyed what's inside every KO bottle I've tried (3-4). I'm not a fan of the prices, but what's inside the bottle has always been enjoyable. I agree that for the price difference, RB is the value champ;.
Rare Breed is consistently an over achiever in the channels blinds. Both of you confirm that Rare Breed ($55 - $60 in my area) is a Great Value for a bourbon. I also hold that Rare Breed is a bottle that I will always have if I can manage to have it.

I really appreciate your dedication and effort to produce good quality whiskey edutainment. I am happy you and many others find Rare Breed such an outstanding pour and exceptional value. I wish I could join you in that regard because it would make whiskey shopping much easier. Unfortunately rare breed does not provide the same result that you so often enjoy. I’ll admit I have not had KO batch 12 but I finally got on board with Batch 9 which was outstanding for me. I skipped my Batch 10 and opened Batch 11 only to be somewhat disappointed in the post DD bottling. However, it is still much better for me than the RB. Yes, I agree that our palates are different day to day but when my palate is on then everything gets raise a notch or two. I agree that the $400 msrp starting with KO11 is crazy but even at the previous $300 cost before that I could find KO on the shelves and it was easily as good as any BTAC. I’m done with KO for now and glad I bunkered a few DD Ryes as they are also exceptional and were more affordable than the bourbon. Cheers
I have bought and finished both KO 11 and 12. The 11 is so much better than the 12. My first try with Rare Breed (2021) wasn't good at all. I should try it again.
