Hey say I been wanting to tell you something. So I did 5 years in prison. I found your show and I lived it. I would watch your show everyday even on reruns. Once I got out I wanted to get a cat and show him love like you show them. 7 years now I been out I adopted 3 cats and make a cat room full of things they love. I have never had any of my cars attack me all love and I did what you said and they are amazing. Thank Mr Jackson 😺🐈💞😺
This is a good story! It's wonderful that you can give love and receive it back from your feline companions! Undoubtedly, this is a form of therapy for you! Hope you're doing well and that you never go back to an incarcerated life!
I hope you and your furry loved ones have many more blessed days in the company of each other. It's beautiful to hear you have such a wonderful loving family to cherish 😸❤️
My cat does this with apples and nuts. She demands smelling it every time I eat them (almost every day) and will equally hate it each time. I feel like she doesn't really trust me that that is in deed what I'm eating and I'm sneak eating something
My dogs aren't even MY dogs anymore. They belong to the cats now. I'm serious. They sleep together, play together and overall just enjoy eachother's company. The dogs practically helped raise them and I love watching them grow as a pack.
I currently don't have a cat or dog per living in an upstairs condo in hot temp L.A. In the early-late 2000's my cat would lick the Boston Terrier as they would lie down together for long periods of time together.
Here's maybe a tip for someone who has a cat like mine that actually really hated traveling in the car. I started taking a music CD I play at home and played that CD in the car when we went to the vet. She calmed down immediately.
I got the cat to relax by REALLY turning on the heat, they love the heat. Then I would pet them in the passenger seat, hold em down. But really the heat is their favorite
yes!! i first discovered this with Beyoncé. 🥺 she calms right down, even sleeps. i make sure to have the volume pretty low, but music is a must. and my baby has good taste.
With my kids, I always use "would you like it if someone did that to you?" So, "would you like it if you were on your way to the bathroom and someone picked you up and carried you to the living room to hug you?" Or "would you like it if someone got right up in your face with a toy?" Chances are, if YOU wouldn't like it, your cat sure as he'll isn't going to like it! Respect is really all it boils down to. They deserve the same respect and boundaries that we expect.
Yup. I respect my cat's autonomy for the most part, and make her respect mine as well. For instance if she doesn't want to be picked up, she doesn't get picked up. Likewise if I don't want her on my lap, she's not going to be able to "force" her way on my lap. She can sleep/sit anywhere, but knows that 2 places are mine first and foremost. Them being my bed and my desk chair at my pc. (She sometimes tests me on this but I stay consistent and will be a bit forceful if she won't move from these 2 spots. :p) Whenever I need her to move from a spot or my lap I always pet her a little first so she can wake up in a nice way before having to get up. (It's gotten to the point where she gets up herself without me having to move her) I also let her in and out pretty much whenever she wants, the exception being when it's too cold at night and I won't hear her wanting to come in when sleeping. Lastly I try to give her consistency. As in her wet food meals always come at the same time, +/- 20 minutes at most.
Our cats love smelling everything, including things they HATE. So they'll cheerfully go investigate our coffee cups, freshly cut onions, citrus fruits etc, give it a sniff - bleh- and wander off. As if to check "do I still hate this? Yes, yes I do."
As a kid, we had a dog and cat that loved each other. The cat trusted my dog so much, he helped her give birth to her litter of kittens. Licking and cleaning them when they came out and would guard the kittens when she wanted a break...I remember he used to gently pick up the kittens and return them to the mother cat when she wanted them.
Jackson is a straight up typical dad.... Dad jokes as well as laughing at his own dad jokes... And that's really why I'm here... Oh and for the cats of course! ahaha!
my sister adopted a cat a few weeks ago. cat had a weird habit of tucking himself in her clothes. caught him tangled up in a shirt and walking around. i ordered a cape made for cats for like halloween or something for him just cause i thought it would be cute- this cat won't let her take it off. he runs away and hides if she tugs the cape up over his head. mom thought he would like to wear a sweater cause he loves the cape- nope! did not have fun! glaring around the room, wouldn't move, tail doing that over stimulated twitching. tldr: some cats like clothes, some hate it, some are dramatic and only like capes.
My really old small dog was raised with cats that were particularly mean to him. Now years later I adopt a kitten that was in horrible shape and rehabbed in a home with small dogs that played and cuddled with them. In all irony the dog is afraid of the kitten but the kitten is gently winning him over by coming up to sniff him, rub on him, and sleep next to him. It feels like a great example of a dog that respects the cat's space being the perfect companion for this kitten... and the kitten is helping the old dog feel less alone and sleep better.
My cat is so fascinated with the litter box cleaning process. She insists on watching me clean it every day, and will sit through the whole monthly deep cleaning process. It makes me laugh
Lol, my cat sits there, watching me scoop the litter box and trying to rake things back out of the scoop. He looks at me, so concerned, and you know he’s thinking, “WTH is wrong with Mom!? She’s stealing our poop!”
My husband passed 4 years ago and i was so depressed so my daughter suggested getting a pet. Well i live in an appt but was allowed a cat. I’ve had Luna now almost a year and she’s brought me so much joy and laughter. Her n i are buddies
I'm a truck driver, my little munchkin kitty nightshade loves riding in the 18 wheeler with me. She was a rescue at 6 weeks old. And I acclimated her to it when she was young. She doesn't mind riding because she isn't crated, she just lounges on the floor, or the seat. If in the rig on the bed😂😂
A year later, but I loved your comment! One and only reason I considered working as a cross-country delivery driver was the thought of having a pet side-kick for the journey lol Also, totally agree with the not-crating part. I understand the general need for a crate, and will have one in the car with me, but I've never liked the idea of making them stay in it for the drive and felt it would probably be less anxiety-inducing if they had the ability to navigate/investigate what's going on around them; if they wanted.
My first cat always rode freely in the car. At first his favorite spot was in my lap; uncomfortable environment but direct contact to something/one familiar and safe. Once he got comfortable enough to actually nap while we drove, he began to explore the passenger seats and backseat floors (had pre-blocked off ways he could get to the driver floor). Then his new favorite spot was to lie across my shoulders while looking out the front windows; became familiar with the inside so now to understand whats going on outside. And ultimately he claimed the back window as HIS space; lounging out under the sun and either napping or empirically staring down the cars behind me lol got to the point that he'd sprint across the yard to join me getting in my car
@LiathsVibes honestly, my munchkin nightshade doesn't do well with the crate. It makes her anxiety go through the roof. She is much more comfortable freely moving. Now I do have a small thing I call a bag crate. It's just her backpack that she gets in for walks outside the truck. If it's bad weather or what not, she will go in it by herself. Bit she is Nightshade, the trucking kitty.🤣
My old cat absolutley HATED rain, but loved sitting in his water bowl... he was a weird one (Also LOVED my 3 year old sister, she could do ANYTHING to him and he just purred and rub his head over her, but HATED every other human being)
The craziest relationship I’ve ever seen: my mamaw had a husky and a calico kitten. The husky, of course, was an absolute crack head, but the cat was all about it. She always slept on the dog’s head and they chased each other all day long. They never went anywhere without the other.
My rabbit and my MILs Border Terrier/Shih Tzu mix were BFFs lol. They had to boop noses every morning and every evening! When my bun got really sick and needed constant care for a few weeks, the dog would sit close and whine every time bun had an episode. When she was finally better, we had to put a pen up so she could use it to balance and navigate. The dog was not a fan and I had to open it for them to boop noses lol. Those two queens ruled a house of 4 cats and 2 dogs. My rabbit only enjoyed the company of the one dog, too. She had a slightly higher tolerance for the little dog and my cat because they were babies with her, but zero patience with the other cats 😂
When I got rid of my old couch, the new one was delayed so I didn't get it until the next day. This pissed my cat off because she decided that couch was where she wanted to lie. So she lay on the floor where the couch had been and turned her back to me (something she never did) and pouted. No, cats don't like change and disorder.
Now see, only a cat parent would know that kitty was mad at them. Non-cat owners just don't understand, our kitty babies really do talk to us (or not talk to us, or not talk to us if we've done something to offend them.
Imagine having to work on retail as someone that not a full introvert, but despises being addressed when it's not part of his job, if it's not about work i don't care about it, you don't even have to answer my "good day", just keep walking and pretend i don't exist, i just want to finish my shift, go home and get paid, i don't get paid to care about your existence Karen.
I’m autistic and I love cats, I recently adopted two rag dolls and it seems as though cats and autistic people have very similar boundaries. Thank you for this video always learning something off you!
@@thegardenofeve That is really interessting! I've got a friend that is autistic, and it's been really helpful to compare some of his functions and needs to that of my cat. Makes it much easier to properly accommodate my friend as I get to practice on my cat every day! :D
My cat Theo loved to ride in the car. I'd say, "Theo, get in the car." He'd jump right in and sit in the back seat looking out the window. I'd be stopped at a red light and people would stare and smile, some would wave, surprised to see him. He was a stray that showed up one day and I'm a true believer that a cat picks you, not the other way around. Those are the great ones.
I had a cat that liked to ride too! I loved the reactions of other drivers, the double takes were hilarious:) Also, many people who live in Rvs have cats that travel with them.
I sort of had a cat like that as a kid. He was a huge male unaltered orange tomcat. He was an outdoor cat that was originally the neighbor's, but the neighbor moved and left hm behind. We were poor and didn't have the money to have him neutered and he sprayed so we didn't take him in, but we did feed him on our front porch. But he *loved* getting into our big Ford sedan and put his back legs on the bench seat (remember those?) and his front legs on the dash, and take rides around the block, watching the world go by through the windshield and windows. We'd get in the car and pat the seat and he'd bound in and put himself in his position. We moved, and another neighbor fed him until finding a home for him. He's long dead now of course, but he was one cool cat.
You have really opened my eyes to what I need to work on with making my cats more comfortable and happy. I thought they were being "really bad" and now realize that I am the one who needs to work on my care for them and what they want and need.
I had a cat for many years who I'd been acclimating to travel from a young age. I traveled all over the country by car with her. I ran an office where I would take her to work every day. It reached a point where she would run and jump into the car. On long trips, she would climb up and drape herself around my neck to sleep. Other drivers seemed to find it charming when they glanced over.
Thanks for this, Raymond! I, too, have made cross-country trips with my Cat, and once a rhythm is established & temperatures aren't extreme, it's wonderful!! & O yes, delightful for those who happen to glance at the right time..! 🥰🐱 He does have a shallow travel litter-pan that I can tidy & scoop (& take into hotels discreetly inside an old large pizza box 🤣🤣)
RE Chapter 4: I think people forget what stuff like that (Leaving for a couple days) might look like to their fur babies. To them, you just suddenly stopped coming home. They don't know why, they don't know where you went or that you're coming back. For all they know, you just vanished. That's enough to shake any dependent being up, really.
that reminds me of how i was told by my sib on how the family dog was depresssed about me and my dad leaving town for a few days seems we were her fav humans.. animals sure are sweet creatures with their love for us
I need a cat sitter even for 1 night because mine gets so agitated... He throws up... I can be gone 12 hours, but not 24. Most people don't understand it because they think all cats are independent. I try to tell them that cats are similar to dogs in needing human contact. Everyone gets a dog sitter. I get a cat sitter. ❤️
When I go away for even a day I get a cat sitter who comes over 2x/ day. When I moved and had to get a new cat sitter, I had her over first to introduce her to my cat and see how they interacted. I’m very close to my rescued fur baby and she’s very attached to me. I know she’s anxious and upset if I’m gone long so I do my best to lessen her discomfort. I love my little feline friend so!
I always hide food and water and toys around the house to help keep their mind off things. But it hasn’t been an issue in a very long time, COVID and all.
That's why we always get a cat sitter (usually my mom) who comes regularly and spents some time with them and feeds them to their usual times. Sometimes I ask if I can call the cats. 😅 Maybe they feel better if they hear my voice.
Me to my cat all winter: “Oh NO are you cold??” Buys heated throws, heated mattress pad, hot water bottle, makes nests out of blankets, gently tucks cat in…
Same. I do most those things, then the moment I lay down, it's straight to the vee of my legs, or in between them anywhere the length of my leg. No matter what I do, it's "Mommy, I Sleep HERE!
6:36 me because I have depression and autism, and my cat is one of the few things that calms me down, gives me purpose, and motivates me to take care of myself so I can take care of her.
If you want more of it, he hosted a show called something like "my cat from hell" where he went around with a camera crew teaching people how to behave to get their cats to not be crazy.
@SiddHealth Same with vets, particularly in the UK they are mainly owned /controlled by the big corporations whose main objective is £££$$$$ using the pet ownrers love for their animals to extract cash by expensive unnessrssary intrusive medical operationss and other medications.
I can still remember my dearly departed cat of 20-years going out of his way when I left for 2-days. I had set him up with food galore and bowls of water, kept the TV on so there was some company. When I got back, he seemed all right, and then I noticed it. I had CLOSED the door to the litter box when I left two days ago! Hey! It's on me, and wherever he went, it was entirely on me. Nothing, I couldn't find anything. No pee, no poop...nothing to be seen. A few days later, I figured it out, he had been using the corn plant and the soil around it. It was the largest plant in the apartment and had a large ring of soil around the plant. He got even more, treats and loving after that! :)
@@FightingForFacts7074 my cat killed my dad's 20 year old decorative fig tree! He never once peed in it but one day he just decided to. That tree was taller than I am at 5' 3"
That is too bad about the loss of your kitty. I am sorry. But yeah, cats will usually try to find a place to do their business, when a litter box is not around, that is away from activity, and is isolated. The first few hours that I had my cat Frisky, I was out getting the litter box. When I returned home, he immediately lead me to an open, walk in closet in my room. He had done his business in one of my girlfriends shoes. I was literally cracking up. My girl friend, not so much. But, she actually did eventually find the humor, in Frisky's actions. And, three years later, Frisky was mad at my GF for some reason, he returned to that same shoe, and pooped in it, again. She deserved it, that time...
My sister had a cat that got locked in the house while they were gone for a few days. They came home...ooh poor baby. Couldn't find any messes. Found a little dirt on the floor from a plant hanging from the tall ceiling, which was way up there - yep, they found the cat somehow got up in the hanging plant and did her business, and yep the plant died. They never figured out how she got up there. Poor desperate cat. Lol. On the other hand, my mom's cat would go in the dirty clothes hamper. I have two litter boxes as I have two cats. I also have someone pet sit them if I'm gone more than overnight and have them get to know my cats first. One is a rescue cat and he doesn't like tall men with deep voices, so I have a lady pet sit them so he's not terrorized.
My cat loves the car. He's 23 and goes everywhere with us. For long journeys we drop the back seats, put his bed in the back, food and water, and his tray. It's like turning the car into a cat motorhome. He especially likes watching the world go by out of the window and coming to the divider to tell us when he's done a poo and would like his tray emptied. He also likes new destinations which some people say is odd for a cat. If we go on holiday we take all of his stuff with us (he's indoorsy now cos of his age and complete deafness) and we always choose places to rent that will allow him to stay. Then when we get there we set him up like at home, with his usual toys and blankets so everything smells familiar, and he just wanders around scent marking things with his face and then finds himself a spot to sleep or request a belly rub.
@@danicatanner7698 He's a tuxedo... black and white rescue moggy, so no particular breed. We live in a small home with no stairs and no children so when we get a cat we go to shelters and look for the elderly or infirm ones. Sometimes feels like we're running a cat retirement home 😸 In the case of Toby he was already 19 and had been badly mistreated by his former owners. When he came to us he was terrified of everyone and everything. Took us about 6 months to earn his trust but happily now he's completely relaxed, loves cuddles and only gets nervous if strangers visit the house (he hides behind my legs... not sure if he realises that they can still see him 😂)!
Mine is like that too. I bought a camper 3 years ago to do work-trades and learn farming/homesteading, and my cats could not wait to be let out and explore. I couldn't believe how much happier they were, immediately, even with 40 cows and calves like 10' away (and 5 dogs and 4 chickens roaming freely). Eight months later, we moved to a new farm, this one just vegetables, no cows, and it was the same thing. They would angry-meow at me when I wouldn't open the door for them. They never go very far, or for too long. They just really seem to love taking it all in, and whenever we set up in a new spot, they're as eager as I am to check it all out. Never freaked out or anxious. It's great.
Jackson, in 2010 my wife and I moved from Southern California to Alexandria, Virginia. The wife and I agreed we would not ship the cats across country in an airliner (after having lost two-cats on an airliner). Instead, we decided to drive across country in a motor home and carry our four-cats (Chip, Dale, Irving and Shy) with us. As we approached Oklahoma city the weather changed to sleet and freezing rain. Our male Burmese Dale, loved to sit on the driver's lap and place his paws on the wheel as if he were driving. Well, an Oklahoma State Trooper pulled us over. She knocked on the door of our motor home, and my wife let her in. Well sir, she saw Dale sitting on my lap, with his paws on the wheel and said "Oh thank God, it's real!" Then she sat down and said "because of the flu, I'm midway through my second consecutive shift, when I look to the right and see a cat driving a motor home". She smiled and asked us to please pull the courtesy curtains behind the driver's door window. Then we shot multiple pictures of the Trooper behind the wheel of our motor home with Chip, Dale, Irving and Shy taking turns sitting on her lap; paws on the steering wheel. No cats do not hate motor vehicles, so long as you let them drive.
Great story (love Burmese so much). But what does "lost two cats on an airliner" mean? Did the cats escape? Did the airlines ship them off on the wrong plane? Did someone steal them by claiming them at baggage? Do tell. Sounds awful!
This is very funny! I haven't finished my shitf yet, and I don't know how I am going to answer the phone I am laughing! I can imagine this person's face!!😁😁😁😽😺🐱
I lost my baby, Frank under 3 months ago, and I miss him terribly. I miss all of his little, funny routines, his different meows, waiting for me at the top of the stairs when I come home, his intelligence, his sweetness, his ability to communicate with me, his inquisitive chartreuse eyes, his love, his patting me on the cheek in the morning, and his soft, warm fur when he would curl up against me as I fell asleep. Miss you little man, until we meet again, rest in peace.. ❤️
Being a Chef, I've learned that every cat ive had, get so curious when I'm cooking. So, I slowly trained them to have a spot where when I'm cooking. I lift herbs or sauces... just near them, and sometimes they give a face like... ohhh bring it closer or no thank you. I find this keeps them away from cutting boards, or them running off with a food just to leave it some place randomly half finished. I also find it helps my cats food gorging. So, it gives them attention and a way to enjoy the smells without it slamming them all the time.
@@wendy645 thx, I googled what you said. Awesome stuff, its spot on. I think in a cat world, yes its offensive... however look at catnip, yes I realise there is more to catnip. Just in general, that sometimes just like humans, you find a smell you can really be enthralled at yet others on the whole tend to be more vividly opposed to. Like limburger cheese, or durian fruit, yet strong fish smells you can accumulate over time to and it only offends in the extreme... I'm rambling🤣😅
Aw, that is so considerate! An opportunity for some fascinating interaction, too, I'd imagine. I haven't had a countertop jumper in ages, but if I ever do, I'll pull up a stool for them and give this a try.
I love this, William! I like to involve my 2 little ones in my everyday life at home when possible, but I never really thought about trying this! If I have food in my hands that isn't on a plate and/or on it's way to the table, I will usually hold it up to my little girl's nose because if she sees food, she automatically assumes it's for her! So, I want her to smell it and understand that it's really not something that she would like! She is pretty much my little shadow and if I am in the kitchen there is no chance that I will be left alone! But normally she lies down right behind my feet! So if I'm cooking, she isn't really sitting on my level, so I haven't thought about offering her sniffs every so often. I must give it a try next time.
Well, my cat Annie has a spot at the end of the counter where she eats. It’s been this way since I’ve had her because the dogs can’t reach her bowl there. And yes, if I am enjoying a snack I always offer Annie a sniff or a lick. ❤️
I had a cat who absolutely LOVED riding in the car, but not in the carrier. She would look out the front window, the back window, climbing around... she just had the best time!
My cat has successfully conditioned my husband to give her treats when she wants them. I see her clever little ways she manipulates him. My smart little girl. Poor hubby has no idea what’s going on.
My female cat has about a dozen tricks she tries. Evil one like sticking her nose in your ear and purring which tickles and make me laugh or laying and my chest when I am on the couch, she only does it when she wants food. I am training her that a paw on my face will not work but she is still trying sometimes.
Lol mine did the same thing to my husband and I get annoyed with him " you can't just give the girls a treat because they are being cute or asking for one"
I’ve watched your shows & really enjoy them. I’ve had cats most of my life. Now I’m soon to be 88 yrs old & down to only one, my beloved Mikey who is 12. I rescued him & bottle fed him. He’s only known good with me. Sadly I lost a cat two days ago. Also a stray. She was about 2 yrs old when I took her in. Got her spayed. She was always a difficult cat but I managed. Think it was bad treatment in early years. At least she had food, shelter & kindness for 10 yrs. Feeding 3 strays now. Don’t know their story but they were neutered & spayed before being dumped or left behind. Been feeding & caring for strays for years & also spaying & neutering with my money. I’m a widow now & not a lot of money but manage. Anyway thanks for all you do & all people who care. 💕
That's such a loving thing to do Marcia ❤ I have 4 cats, Maine Coon and Ragdoll, all USA origin.😊 I'm in UK and there aren't any strays that I'm aware of but I do feed hedgehogs, birds and foxes in my garden.🦊
First of all I would like to say i am sorry for your loss, losing a cat is heartbreaking, I hope you are taking care of yourself, she was truly lucky to have you. Reading yourr comment goes to show how wonderful 'cat people' truly are as they give them the chance they deserve,as they are often misunderstood , many people think cats are only after food, but that is simply not the case! They express themselves in other ways. They are such loving companions. Thank you for your service, they are/were all so lucky to have you. I really want to adopt soon, currently revising so I take care of them in the best way possible. It's difficult to know which cats are stray, as they don't wear collars and they roam around the same place, they don't look malnourished. I don't want to offend any owners as where I live isn't especially kind. Enough of my rambling, I hope I come across another comment of yours soon! Best wishes :)
@@lr5984 I think you were NOT rambling. Please tell us the rest of your experiences of wherever that you are. You are another kind soul to animals. Your life and story are important, interesting and I for one want to know what it's like for you and the cats over there. -Thurs.16/06/2022
Love you Jackson. Thanks for educating people about cats. Many folks take them in before they understand them and know how to care for them. I had a friend who thought you could pet and rough them up like dogs and pick them up whenever you wanted to satisfy their own need to cuddle. Needless to say, my cat didn't like him. I started to correct him and protect my cat from him, giving him instructions when he was inappropriate.
As an Asperger, the chaos one really gets to me. I have two cats, and I just had someone over to redo my flooring. One day of loud saws and hammering, my cats and I was equally stressed, hiding in my study. We are all fine now tho, and the flooring came out really nice :)
Something else that really shakes up both cats and their people is moving day - tearing the whole place apart and packing it in a truck. I had one old tom who walked 30 miles to get back to the old house.
I'm Autistic too. Me and my cats, we get each other. What he says about cats and dogs: basically Cats = Autistic people, Dogs = NTs. He's describing EXACTLY how I experience NTs: "the speed is wrong and no territorial respect" 😂 Also the chaos element lol.
I feel you completely here. I have had neighbors drilling and hammering for a month to put in a new kitchen themselves (a company would do it much faster but they wanted to do it all alone). Luckily I worked throughout the week but the work continued in the weekends. And tbh I really didn’t know how to deal with it after a while anymore. Right now I have one that started work in April and still isn’t done. Seems he has different homes. A place on a camping ground, this apartment which he is putting a new kitchen in, now he goes on holiday to Spain and probably will continue afterwards. Not looking forward to it.
I had to take my cat Rocky to the vet so many times in his last year and a half. He hated to kennel soooo much and would cry the whole way and it broke my heart. I adopted him from a shelter and I was told that he was found outside and was outdoor. I used to take him on walks with a harness to let him have some of the outdoors back in his life, so I knew how much he loved it. I ended up getting him a huge mesh backpack that would buckle in to the car. It was mostly mesh, besides the structure, and I started using that instead of the kennel. He stopped complaining when we would go to the vet and would just sunbathe and relax. It melted my heart. I miss him sooooo much!
I didn't know there were carriers like that. Sounds like you did everything possible to make Rocky comfortable, I'm sure it made a difference to him (-:
I use to watch your show... Taught me a lot on cat care... I miss watching your show, no cable, so imagine my surprise when scrolling through RUclips seeing you... So happy to see you here... Love your work!!!
My Eddy is jealous of the attention I pay to my prized jade plant. Eddy glares at it when I water it and then when he thinks I cannot see him he smacks the plant. It cracks me up!
Be careful he doesn't do more than that. My cat Ginseng was a terror on plants. After he decimated my roommates Boston ferns he killed a pair of daisies we had been given. We mourned their loss and my roommate lamented that we'd never be able to have plants. I disagreed. I suggested we get a daffenbachia (sp?); now before Jackson says anything, yes, I knew they were poisonous to cats, that's why I suggested we get one. I knew that the cats would instinctively know not to chew on the plant and they did know. They did not chew on it, they didn't touch it. But they did kill it. My well trained kitties took to peeing in the planter occasionally. It took 3 years before it sickened and died. By that time I had caught 1 of the cats, Leona, peeing in the planter. She got in trouble for her and I thought the matter over. It was when the plant continued to die despite everything we did to save it that I started looking in the dirt at the roots to see if a parasite was the problem and the smell deep in told me what had happened. But by then it was too late the plant died despite everything we'd done to save it. My roommate was right...we couldn't have any plants while those cats were alive. Now, I'm just not capable of gardening here where I'm at for different reasons other than the cats. So if your Jade plant starts to take a turn for the worse, check deep in the soil for a cat urine smell. If you detect it early enough and completely change the pot and soil being sure to wash off the roots real good, then you might be able to save it.
I used to have a cat who spent 80% of his time in my car. We went everywhere together! He always rested on my headrest while I drove. He was a special cat. Played fetch and everything
used to have a huge fluffy norwegian. playing fetch: i throw the toy and she'd sit and watch me fetch it. she was a "go bye-bye" kitty too, run out and jump in the car, and when we got home run to the door waiting for us to open it (100% indoor kitty).
@@em1osmurf Awww sounded like such a great cat. Sorry for you loss as well. Like I say I dread that day. I had to put my dog down and I swore I would never get a pet again but then I had to rescue my two Russian Blues. They are the most loving playful cats. I couldnt believe somebody would actually try and throw them in the dumpster. They had worms in their butts but thats nothing a vet visit couldnt take care of.. So lucky we found eachother. They tend to be scary though. I dont think they would ever willingly just jump in my car but they are indoor cats so maybe thats why
@@lorielhassani Thats the only thing we can do to stay positive and not get sad about it. That goes for the humans in our lives too. We never just get over it, we just learn to live with it
I had one that would sit under a stool that the dog had to walk past and hit them whenever they walked past and another who would sit on the arm of the couch and do it. My kittens have no idea how well trained those two have ever dog they have really met so far.
Yep. I have one that won't put up with dogs much. Got a new LGD last year, a French Pyrenees mix. At 1 year, he was 3' tall and 70 pounds. He comes up to her to sniff, and she swats him in the nose. Yelp. He stays clear of all the cats now. The Lab/Pyr is older and much calmer, and they just sniff each other's noses and go on their way.
My daughter stayed with me for several months, with her dog. My cat (hers too really, but he remained with me) was very old and kinda in his last legs. He (little guy) actually sought solace in my daughter's dog. The dog (Elvis) comforted the cat and they had literally just met 😩😭
My friend's cat has been with him for many years now. He recently adopted a dog. The cat hates the barking and now the dog won't bark at all at home. He goes crazy barking when he's out for walks and away from the cat.
Ugh, about the routine thing- I genuinely HATE when people are like, "it's a cat, they'll be fine, they don't even care, blah blah"...about going away on vacation, about playing with them, about affection or environment or a million other thing people would consider terribly cruel if it was said about a dog. I was never even a "cat person", but even so I really feel for the little guys. They've gotten the shift in a million ways for generations just because people don't care to know better. It's a good thing we have people like Jackson to spread information that improves lives. I mean, this is a living creature, not a stuffed animal- You can't just buy it, only pay the slightest attention to it and simply assume it will be happy locked up alone in your house otherwise.... but I feel like a lot of people do exactly that with cats.
Trust me, my cats DO care when I’m out of town, even if just for a night or two. My bedding is always Covered in shedded fur, about 10x more than usual (used to put fresh sheets on my bed before leaving town to maximize the joy of being “back in my own bed.” Not anymore. In addition to the hair there is usually vomit somewhere in the room and diarrhea in the box that smells unworldly). When I first arrive home, one stares me down, then gives me the cold shoulder. The other one yells at me for about 30 minutes won’t leave my side for about 4 days, then- once he trusts I’m home for good- he teaches me a lesson and won’t come when I call or cuddle for about two days (to teach me a lesson) Then after a week everyone’s back to normal.
I go out of town frequently. The cats manage fine. That is why I have cats instead of dogs; you cannot do that with a dog; dogs and cats are not the same. Although when we are gone for more than a week, I do arrange for them to be visited, and fed, etc., of course. :-)
I have noticed that when I get back from time away, my cats haven't groomed themselves much; when I stroke and pet them, and there is so much more fur than usual....I think they get a bit lonely/depressed.
Thank you for addressing scented cat litter!! 🙏🏻 It makes no sense to add scent to ANYTHING for a cat! I have special heated cat beds that have a weight sensor and regulated temp. I have a rescued lynx point siamese that loves dogs and will even follow strange dogs.
I had a cat that really hated water and it puzzled and worried her that I'd get into a shower every day. She would watch me get all wet and I'm sure she thought I was just crazy. Eventually she realized that I survived water.
My cat does this! She will try to bite me and drag me out of the shower. She’s 13 and still does this. I love finding out she’s not the only one doing that ha. Thank you.
My kitten. For days couldn't decide if she was more scared of the water or she wanted to be around me more aka momma. I won against the water. She decided enough is enough the shower can not tear us apart, so whenever I took a shower she'd curl up to my ankle and just go with it. I had to turn up the heat and get her a blanket so she wouldn't get cold. I was red like a crab. Than I got the cutest purrs while she was wrapped up in a towel and my blanket.
This morning I said f it and slept in cuz my cat woke me up around 7 (I normally feed him at 8) after I told him last night he needs to let me sleep in. I woke up around 12 and fed him. I'm lucky he's so understanding and smart, he was quiet the whole time I was sleeping
Thanks! I really enjoy your videos. When our senior dog died, we adopted a senior cat. We love her and are learning so much about cats… so very different from dogs. Such a different energy and she’s been such a healing comfort in our lives. I didn’t know I’d find videos learning about cats-so thanks for that! 😃
“Cats are slave to routine” This is so true for my cat. The first night I brought him home, he had been terrified of me at the foster’s house, so around 8:00 pm I laid on the couch and put him under a blanket with me where he was curled near me knees to try to get him used to me. He immediately relaxed, began purring, cuddled up next to me, etc. and the rest is history. The next night I laid down on the couch under a blanket after dinner and he came and found me and crawled under the blanket and curled up against my knees. That was a year ago and he has come to find me every single night around 8:00 pm to cuddle under a blanket ever since then. He eats at the same time, plays at the same time, sleeps at the same time, tries to run out the door and makes me catch him and bring him back at the same time- EVERYTHING is part of the routine. It’s really pretty incredible and has done wonders for my ADHD bc now I’m a slave to his routine too lol People with ADHD suck at maintaining a routine but it’s really good for helping manage our symptoms. I’d never been able to keep one until I got him but it’s been so easy to do it now because it’s best for *him* and he makes sure to remind me when it’s time to do something lol
Thank you for sharing. Tonight is the first night our kitty girl stayed with us. She was doing fine until my husband kicked her in her carrier. He’s scared she’s going to pee and poop all over our carpet. I don’t know what to do? She’s 8 weeks old.
Dogs can be "happy-go-stupid." Our dog, Belgian, loves everything about his cats. He has a huge bed. If there is a cat on it, he refuses to disturb then. I think it's about the expectations we set out. Everyone gets along. He is so kind to the cats and gets upset if their play, while totally safe, gets too vocal.
Happy-go-stupid perfectly describes my lab. 😂 No concept of personal space, which of course my cat hates. He also doesn’t like when the dog is excited or barks too loud. But they do cuddle up and sleep together. And he loves to watch the dog the drink water because the water jug will refill the bowl when he’s done.
This video just confirms why I've always just clicked with cats as an autistic person 😂. We're running on the same programming. Loud sounds, smells, change in environment/routine, dirty hygiene areas, temperature sensory issues and introversion from loud people who make uncomfortable 😂
@@omegadragons321 So sorry ...not easy to be considered obnoxious and rude! I hope you found your special talent...cuz all of us people who don't quite fit the classic mold very often have something we do especially well. Sometimes it's "circumstances" that hold us back...for others, just a lack of exposure to something random. Once exposed to "that thing" an explosion takes place (sometimes in slow motion). Mine did...I don't wear a label...but my 3 sons do! So it forced my to look inward at my own journey. This site is for cat lovers but, I'm a rule breaker! Just entertaining notions of being an animal co-parent with my son who has PTSD etc. and is also dyslexic. We both could use more excercise! So perhaps a dog would be better. However, think I'd love a lovey-dovey kitty, for I like quiet...only child here!
If you can afford an automated litter box, they are a Godsend! I am disabled and bending is hard. I have a Litter Robot. Both my 20 year old cat and foster momma cats use it. I have to change the litter bag twice weekly with two cats. And I clean it between fosters. So much easier. I usually get just the orphan kittens but sometimes foster a pregnant cat.
Had to chime in here: housesitting for four cats in the winter at a lake house, I was told it was OK to let this one female out on the porch. I was careful to check on her every couple of minutes the first time, but got used to the fact that she liked to sit out in the cold (!) One day she was out for a while and it snowed; I opened the door to see her covered with about an inch of snow and she merely blinked at me when I asked her if she wanted to come in. I finally went out and brought her back inside. Like the man said, all cats are individuals!
@@HOLLASOUNDS the sound created by heaters, for some cats can sound like if it's hising to the cat. So it's as if it's recieving a mild form of punishment
My mom's old cat was a long haired tuxedo and it would ask to go outside at -30f sometimes colder and be gone for up to a day. He never froze anything and just let him decide if he wants to go in or out.
My daughter’s cat went ‘catatonic’ and dropped over sideways on the floor when she put a costume on him. She tried picking him up but he stayed stiff with legs straight out. She took it off, he stretched, walked away & literally ignored (usually very affectionate) her for hours!
My daughter's first cat loved to wear my daughter's necklaces. If she took them off, Susie would get mad. And you never wanted to make Susie mad. If you did and didn't apologize ( like if you accidentally stepped on her foot) she would wait until you took off your shoes and pee in them.
If I put a dog shirt on my cat he'd lower his head to the ground like he was being punished. When he'd chase the other cat I'd say, "Stop it or I'll put you in your shame shirt."
Ive been binging your videos, i lost my kitty after q8 years and learned now I did a lot of things wrong but also she was a happy confident cat. Its been over a year now and i decided to pick up a rescue. With all I learned in the past days plus my experience i am gonna make her life so good. Thank you
Dakota the Bunny Face Cat is one of those. He and his brother and sisters all drive long haul with their dad. He’s got a great setup in his cab and they love it.
I knew a man who carpeted the tank on his motorcycle and his cat rode there, wearing his little helmet with visor (gotta keep the bugs out of the eyes), and his fancy neck scarf! It was SO CUTE! Then one day I asked him how he got him to ride with the noise of the motorcycle, and his reply was, "Well, he's deaf! Won't let me go anywhere without him!"
I have seen this quite a bit where I work. The long haul truckers come in for they have sometimes have cats or dogs. They seem well adjusted and don't show a big desire to get out of the truck. Often the cats will be in the front window lying on the dashboard watching people walk by with minimal interest.
Absolutely. My cousin is a long-haul driver and has had a few cats through the years. They love it. There is plenty of daily routine, but also a LOT of interesting stuff to see from the security of that truck cab.
“Cats want to be in control” Years ago I travelled overseas with my cats. First day gave them the sedative the vet recommended. They hated it and were extremely stressed and upset - “what’s wrong with my body?”. Then paperwork was wrong and we couldn’t fly. The day after we did fly with no sedative, and it wasn’t pleasant, but they we much calmer and composed. Btw, they never did like dogs.
My vet recommended sedatives for my cats when I moved them overseas. I asked him for a double-dose so I could do a trial run to see the effects in calm surroundings at home. Let's say it was NOT good. As you describe, they were both very stressed without any extra stimulation, just because they were wobbly and confused! I decided to put them on the plane sober, and while they were not happy about the ordeal, they at least had their wits about them. So I would add "cats hate to be drugged" to Jackson's list, for sure
Thank you (infinitely) for bringing up costumes. I ABSOLUTELY hate it when I'm enjoying funny video compilations and they decide to throw in cats stumbling around in clothes. Especially with the boots. As I say, "If you can't respect them, don't have them." They aren't alive just for your amusement, people.
My 8 pound Himalayan she was very feminine and dainty. She loved wearing little dresses that were special made for her. When I put my make up on in the morning and I was using one of my brushes, she would cry and cry on the counter until I pretended that I put makeup on her. She was a funny little girl.!
Your interaction with that sweet kitten during the end sequence shows why you're awesome, Jackson. As a man, I've always been slightly insecure in my adoration of felines. Thank you for being unafraid to show the world that men can (and should!) adore cats, too!
There is never any reason to be ashamed of that adoration! There is nothing more attractive than someone who treats animals with kindness, and I know most people feel that way. Something about seeing men be gentle and kind to innocent creatures melts the heart 💜
My husband was absolutely against having cats 🐈 around. Well, let’s just say we have since rescued 6 from abandonment from the streets of the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 (we live in DR). Sometimes I can’t believe it when I find my husband snuggling them with pure affection! My husband is an amazing man and the cats love him! It blows my mind the 180 my hubby has done with his prior attitude towards our cats 🐱 ❤️🤩💯🎉🌞
I got a cat a few days ago and I was so surprised at how calm he was in his carrier. I took 2 trains, had to wait in a busy station for half an hour, the weather was bad... And he didn't complain once. He's so sweet !

Whenever I'm chopping onions (cooking in general, but it's funniest when it's stuff like onions), our cat sits on a bar stool and watches everything I do, even though his eyes are watering and you can see that he hates it, but REFUSES to leave
I had a cat who was named Milo (rest his little soul) and a very large cat who had to taste EVERYthing I was eating, then get offended when I wouldn't let him have it. Even to the bitter end at the start of the year when he was super sick he was still demanding a taste of my food. He also knew how to sit and lay down cause he was raised by dogs (really was two collies)
@@shaybailey45 So sorry you lost your Milo. I believe animals will be with us on the other side, and he will greet you some day. That's hilarious about him being raised by two collies! I can picture it.
BTS fan - That is a true cat fact. Also if you tell a cat to get off the counter -- it will wait until you have walked 3/4 of the way to the counter and THEN jump down.
Yes! A clean litter box is so easy to do and makes a big difference. My routine is we get up, I serve them breakfast, and while they eat I refresh the water bowls and scoop their boxes. It’s doesn’t take long and sets their day up for success.
Our cat acts like our three dogs. He has made himself a part of the pack (three rescues with their own individual problems) and wore them down, a Greyhound, German Shepherd and a podenco. We were so nervous introducing them but before we knew it it just worked and they were all huddled together. When its feeding time he is right there, time to go out for wees and poos for the night, there he goes with them. The dogs are the ones the walk away from him, like ugh the little one is here again! He even comes on walks with us, it is very cute but it scares us if he thinks all dogs are like that.
I think cats are like introverts: “leave me alone, I’ll let you know when I want company”; while dogs are extroverts: “wanna play? wanna play? wanna play?”
That’s why I’m a cat person. I know that when my cat jumps up on my lap that she’s doing it because she wants to, and not because she was “trained” to.
@@melissazayas627 my stepson and his dad probably wish ours were more affectionate. They love catching and hugging him till he complains (yeah, I know).
While im sure my cat preferred a regularly cleaned litterbox, one of his most endearing quirks was every time I cleaned it, within 10 minutes he would go back in it and just squeeze out with little bit of pee he had to offer so that while he wanted his litter box clean he still wanted some piece of his business in it at all times. Even though he was the only cat in the house with no competition around
I've started volunteering at an animal shelter recently. My intentions are pure, but my experience is lacking. These videos ease a lot of my fears on handling the fur babies. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I would love to volunteer at one but my heart could never handle it. Couple weeks ago we were looking at the cats and decided to say hello to the puppies. I couldn’t handle it the crying the noise it was just awful and there was this one. He was a pit bull mix. His name was Puddin he was so scared and shaking and was there for 1-2 months. He even got the courage to walk up to me. He didn’t come too close and backed away whenever I moved so I stayed still and watched him come closer. Our house insurance or something doesn’t allow pit bulls or pit bull mixes so we couldn’t take him I was crying and crying on the way home. Our local shelter is a kill shelter and next time we came he wasn’t there. He wasn’t on the website or Facebook with an adopted next to him. It was just a not available. I’m crying again and it’s been a couple weeks since we saw him! I’ve gotten a fur baby now she’s a tortishell so sweet and follows me around! I just wanna say that volunteers and someone the best people out there. I could never be able to handle it so thanks for being able to!
As someone who has been in your shoes, I'll tell you this: not a single person on this earth popped out of the womb knowing everything there is to know about rescue. We all had to start somewhere. Don't be afraid to ask questions, don't be afraid to tell people "I don't know but let me see if I can find an answer", don't be afraid to take constructive criticism, and above all else, don't be afraid to show people that you truly do love the animals you work with. I've been doing this for 3 1/2 years and I learn something new regularly, and the best part is watching someone get excited about the animal they've chosen to spend their life with. If you ever have questions, you are more than welcome to comment here and I'll do my best to answer :)
My friends had a cat who was a semi-feral they adopted who absolutely loved car rides. He would dash out after I would park, and jump right into the passenger seat every time I arrived, and wouldn't leave my car until I had driven him around the block once. The cats we have ourselves, both are very insistent on having clean litter boxes, which is fine by me and good for them. So we clean twice a day. If someone makes too much of a mess kicking litter around (his sister) our boy will, however, come to us meowing until we follow him to the offending box and fix it for him. So sometimes we'll wind up scooping four times a day just for him. I understand though, as I hate public toilets and rail against those people who insist on hovering and spraying over toilet seats. So I get it! And I appreciate that he's 'talky' enough and smart enough to come 'tell' his staff that something needs doing.
Patricia, There are others like us around the world. We love and know cats! Since infancy, I have felt a connection with them! My soul and theirs... I have studied them, but, mostly, I have loved them...and they have loved me! They KNOW I understand and love them. ❤
My cat has adapted to my complete lack of a routine. I work hours that literally offend many people, and my cat takes it all in stride. He also adapts immediately whenever I have to move his food/water/litter box due to any number of reasons. Cleaning, painting, construction, natural disasters. He's just like "ok, this is where I crap today". We've never had a dustup over his water dish suddenly being in the guest room or kitchen instead of the cat room.
You have the sweetest vibe in RUclips, you’re funny and considerate and being a cat lover just makes you an irresistibly beautiful human being 🧡 Thank you for your knowledge and love.
my cat hates smoke alarms (but really, who doesn't?) but for some reason she loves fireworks. she'll sit in the window and watch them for ages once she hears one go off. i love my little weirdo. :')
I mean going off of what he explains about cat hearing that makes total sense, smoke alarms are shrill and high-pitched (and much closer) whereas fireworks are deep booming noises from far away
@@Saraqael My cat still hated fireworks, though-they are still loud noises randomly going off from all directions. My cat lived under the bed from the last week of June ‘til the second week of July.🤣
My cats are pretty indifferent to them. As country kitties they hear shotguns during hunting season and me blowing up gophers in the yard all summer. They're pretty used to it.
@@livelearnfromfoolsfromsage4686 Yep- it's called a Varmit Getter. You find the tunnel, put the large wand in and pack some dirt around it, pump a propane-oxygen mix into the hole, then push the igniter button and kerblooey- the gophers are blown up right in their holes. Sometimes I'll even do my Marvin the Martian imitation before doing it. (Go to You Tube if you're not familiar with that cartoon character.)
I’ve noticed that pugs do very well with cats. My husband and I have rescued kittens and cats and also have four cats of our own. Overall, it’s been a positive experience. Our eldest pug has even helped socialize and raise some of the kittens we’ve rescued. But then again, pugs within themselves are a unique breed and don’t tend to be as hyper.

Had a Maine Coon (which are always "the weird one") that loved baths and also really liked to be carried around bellyside up like a baby and singing to them.
I love those big sweet babies! I had a boyfriend who was owned by one. I liked his cat more than I liked him. Love those big fluffy paws! She loved being carried like that too.
My cat Jack loved being in the car. I would prop his cage up on my lap and he'd look at the window. He didn't fuss, he was very calm. RIP Black Jack Beanie baby❤️

My cats love to go bye bye on the semi truck. I have three cats that love to go for walks on the leash with a harness on. I never train them ; one black cat I have loves to walk on a leash. I tell him let's go for a walk ; he climbs in my lap let's me put the harness on him and we go for walks ; he loves it.
Our black cat Franky, actually liked wearing his sweater. It wasn't tight and he had medical issues so we think he just liked the warm it gave him. But I do agree, cats shouldn't wear costumes. Great video!
One of my cats loves wearing a sweater too, he went through very nasty cat fever (I've no idea how he even survived so long on his own) but also dislikes sitting at home all day so I decided to repurpose a shrunk merino wool and cashmere sweater I got for 4 bucks in a second hand store. Now he brings it in his teeth from time to time and often sleeps on it too
@@Sk0lzky Something similar clothes-wise happens with our cat. The last 3 months is the length we've had Cleopatra so far and we learnt quickly that not only does she scent everything, she wants us to scent her, and with possession of things also being important to her, my mom's old cashmere top which she wears to bed when cold so was always under the pillow ( which smelt like me so she sat and claimed.) at bedtime, when Cleo is stressed, wants to kneed, be covered, etc we give her it and it turns her from a wild, scared Cleo to cute, kitten Cleo. 🐈⬛ Ps. Scent as in body and head, no litter anywhere onto in the box thankfully.
I’ve heard over anxious cats can benefit from wearing a vest or sweater. I must admit that I love seeing cats dress up BUT ONLY if the cat is happy to do so. Otherwise it’s cruel.
Yeah, a sweater is one thing, but making cats wear weird fitting costumes with awkward, uncomfortable accessories just is not fun for them at all. Lets be real, no accessories are actually truly comfortable even to humans

Ok had to comment - thanks for the laugh out loud moment! I can visualise the cat lip curled disgust !
I've got 1 that loves coffee smell. Has to smell the grounds every time I make coffee. Even tries to eat it.
My cat does this with apples and nuts. She demands smelling it every time I eat them (almost every day) and will equally hate it each time. I feel like she doesn't really trust me that that is in deed what I'm eating and I'm sneak eating something
You too, eh?
My dogs aren't even MY dogs anymore. They belong to the cats now. I'm serious. They sleep together, play together and overall just enjoy eachother's company. The dogs practically helped raise them and I love watching them grow as a pack.
LOOOOL so funny omg
My Maine Coon female mothered my 3 dogs. She made sure their faces were clean and ready to start their day.
That's precious babies GodBlessYou ♡
Nothing wrong with that
I currently don't have a cat or dog per living in an upstairs condo in hot temp L.A.
My cat definitely has a favorite song
yes!! i first discovered this with Beyoncé. 🥺 she calms right down, even sleeps. i make sure to have the volume pretty low, but music is a must. and my baby has good taste.
I got "music for cats" and she really likes it.
Word.
YES. Cats are not toys, they are members of the family and deserve respect.
I admire the way you’re bringing up your children 😊👍🏼💕
Well-put, Megan!
Right on Megan !
Whenever I need her to move from a spot or my lap I always pet her a little first so she can wake up in a nice way before having to get up. (It's gotten to the point where she gets up herself without me having to move her)
I also let her in and out pretty much whenever she wants, the exception being when it's too cold at night and I won't hear her wanting to come in when sleeping.
Lastly I try to give her consistency. As in her wet food meals always come at the same time, +/- 20 minutes at most.
My cat loves to play “tag”… meaning she chases me across the house and then I chase her. It’s her favorite thing!
Mine too!!!
also try to run and hide, mine love it
Same! I love playing it with my cat
My Angus loves to do same.😆

My girl does this too. Daily. She will demand to smell a lemon one more time just in case
How about cucumbers?

The cat trusted my dog so much, he helped her give birth to her litter of kittens. Licking and cleaning them when they came out and would guard the kittens when she wanted a break...I remember he used to gently pick up the kittens and return them to the mother cat when she wanted them.

I honestly love everything about him 😊
my sister adopted a cat a few weeks ago. cat had a weird habit of tucking himself in her clothes. caught him tangled up in a shirt and walking around. i ordered a cape made for cats for like halloween or something for him just cause i thought it would be cute- this cat won't let her take it off. he runs away and hides if she tugs the cape up over his head. mom thought he would like to wear a sweater cause he loves the cape- nope! did not have fun! glaring around the room, wouldn't move, tail doing that over stimulated twitching.
tldr: some cats like clothes, some hate it, some are dramatic and only like capes.
He likes her clothes because they have her ‘smell’!

Cape isn't restricting, but he might like the feel of it. We like different textures why wouldn't the cat?
My really old small dog was raised with cats that were particularly mean to him. Now years later I adopt a kitten that was in horrible shape and rehabbed in a home with small dogs that played and cuddled with them. In all irony the dog is afraid of the kitten but the kitten is gently winning him over by coming up to sniff him, rub on him, and sleep next to him. It feels like a great example of a dog that respects the cat's space being the perfect companion for this kitten... and the kitten is helping the old dog feel less alone and sleep better.
And healing an old wound no doubt

I'm a truck driver, my little munchkin kitty nightshade loves riding in the 18 wheeler with me. She was a rescue at 6 weeks old. And I acclimated her to it when she was young. She doesn't mind riding because she isn't crated, she just lounges on the floor, or the seat. If in the rig on the bed😂😂
A year later, but I loved your comment! One and only reason I considered working as a cross-country delivery driver was the thought of having a pet side-kick for the journey lol
Also, totally agree with the not-crating part.
My old cat absolutley HATED rain, but loved sitting in his water bowl... he was a weird one
(Also LOVED my 3 year old sister, she could do ANYTHING to him and he just purred and rub his head over her, but HATED every other human being)
My niece loves getting her front all wet in her water dish, then she wants humans to dry her off.

My niece would pick my cat up like a doll and my cat would just accept it! Very good mother cat, she understood she was a baby
I’m laughing so hysterically that I nearly peed my pants: “Cats are actually control freaks, and dogs represent chaos.” You’re a friggin’ genius 😂

Storm here found a kitten on one of our walks so now we got a cat. She grows fast and seem to prefare to drink water together with Storm.
Ohmygod, how freakin adorable!! This comment made my day!!! 🥰🤣
My oldest cat loves the car. He often used to come on the school run when my boys were little. 🥰
You have really opened my eyes to what I need to work on with making my cats more comfortable and happy. I thought they were being "really bad" and now realize that I am the one who needs to work on my care for them and what they want and need.
It's always the parents
I had a cat for many years who I'd been acclimating to travel from a young age. I traveled all over the country by car with her. I ran an office where I would take her to work every day. It reached a point where she would run and jump into the car. On long trips, she would climb up and drape herself around my neck to sleep. Other drivers seemed to find it charming when they glanced over.

I am hoping to teach my cat to enjoy travel in the near future, so this is an inspirational story! Thank you 😊

RE Chapter 4:
I think people forget what stuff like that (Leaving for a couple days) might look like to their fur babies.

Now that’s a smart cat!

I liked reading about your cat
23?! What kind of cat is he? I wish mine had lived that long. Your cat is awesome
@@danicatanner7698 He's a tuxedo... black and white rescue moggy, so no particular breed. We live in a small home with no stairs and no children so when we get a cat we go to shelters and look for the elderly or infirm ones. When he came to us he was terrified of everyone and everything. Took us about 6 months to earn his trust but happily now he's completely relaxed, loves cuddles and only gets nervous if strangers visit the house (he hides behind my legs... not sure if he realises that they can still see him 😂)!
My cat's a tuxedo too . Rescue cat, 2 yrs old... Coolest cat I've ever had. She loves people.

I started to correct him and protect my cat from him, giving him instructions when he was inappropriate.
Cats love it when you look at them and blink. You're saying "I love you." And if they blink back, you have a bond.
Jackson Galaxy calls it the "cat I Love You"
Yes, it’s called the slow blink.
As an Asperger, the chaos one really gets to me. I have two cats, and I just had someone over to redo my flooring. One day of loud saws and hammering, my cats and I was equally stressed, hiding in my study. We are all fine now tho, and the flooring came out really nice :)
I heard that is the worst chaos. Someone I know left their house and stayed at a hotel while their floors were re-done.
Something else that really shakes up both cats and their people is moving day - tearing the whole place apart and packing it in a truck.
I had one old tom who walked 30 miles to get back to the old house.
A neurodivergent here. Not a fan of loud noises either.
@Jessica LanSpe I think it's because they can feel less trapped and enjoy the sun through the window.
Sound like he lives the best life with some one that tries so much to make their life better!
I'm so sorry about your baby Franky. You made his life better.
Sorry for your loss... since you say he WAS special Im only assuming.. I dread that day
@@Anne.411 aww thanks 😊 I like to remember the happy stuff.
used to have a huge fluffy norwegian. playing fetch: i throw the toy and she'd sit and watch me fetch it. she was a "go bye-bye" kitty too, run out and jump in the car, and when we got home run to the door waiting for us to open it (100% indoor kitty).
We never just get over it, we just learn to live with it
I had a cat that really enjoyed playing with and training large dogs. He very clearly had the dogs doing exactly what he wanted.
I had a cat that would ride a dog. That poor dog didn't stand a chance. No mind you the dog was 50 lbs, the cat 12. But hey
@@Jodster223: Yeah, I had a cat that kept the neighbourhood dogs in line.
My dog is essentially a warm soft bed for my cats.
My daughter stayed with me for several months, with her dog. My cat (hers too really, but he remained with me) was very old and kinda in his last legs. He (little guy) actually sought solace in my daughter's dog. The dog (Elvis) comforted the cat and they had literally just met 😩😭
She doesn’t know it, but my cat appreciates you Jackson.
My friend's cat has been with him for many years now. He recently adopted a dog. The cat hates the barking and now the dog won't bark at all at home. He goes crazy barking when he's out for walks and away from the cat.
Aww, that’s cute that the dog doesn’t bark when the cat is around! Really cares about his homie’s hearing
My Cat will poke you in the face if you over sleep breakfast time
Cole Marie. A lot of dirty selfish people in the world who say that about cats. Evil people in my opinion.
Who
I had a cat that really hated water and it puzzled and worried her that I'd get into a shower every day. She would watch me get all wet and I'm sure she thought I was just crazy. Eventually she realized that I survived water.
My cat does this! She will try to bite me and drag me out of the shower. She’s 13 and still does this. I love finding out she’s not the only one doing that ha. Thank you.
@@BigDaddyDru That's funny gotta love them
My cat loves water, i used to put the faucet on low and he'd love it
I hear you. One of my cats comes in and meows a bit when I am in shower.
I love how much Jackson genuinely loves cats
"I need to get up for the sake of the cat." Yup, that's about it.
yeah that robot made some good points! why else would I get up? jk bathroom break.

Cats give our lives purpose when we stop caring.
“Cats are slave to routine”
This is so true for my cat.
But what about cats with ADHD? XD
@@StopSelfDoubting - get rid of the jerk and keep the cat!
@@StopSelfDoubting wtf… he shouldn’t kick your cat????? divorce
Omg, that was a typo. I meant to say “kicked her out of our room.” 😂
@meteorite I like cars now that I'm in control of them but it definitely makes me remember being young, not in control and deeply in sensory overload!
ohh so thats why i dont like certain types of that stuff! my parents always assumed that it was because i was just obnoxious and rude
Cats are definitely autistic 😁😁
@@omegadragons321
So sorry ...not easy to be considered obnoxious and rude!
I hope you found your special talent...cuz all of us people who don't quite fit the classic mold
very often have something we do especially well. Sometimes it's "circumstances" that hold us back...for others, just a lack of
exposure to something random. Once exposed to "that thing" an explosion takes place (sometimes in slow motion). Mine did...I don't wear a label...but my 3 sons do! So it forced my to look inward at my own journey.
This site is for cat lovers but, I'm a rule breaker! Just entertaining notions of being an
animal co-parent with my son who has PTSD etc. and is also dyslexic.
We both could use more excercise!
So perhaps a dog would be better.
However, think I'd love a lovey-dovey kitty, for I like quiet...only child here!
My son has a book "All Cats have Aspergers (its an older book)" and my daughter has a book "All Dogs have ADHD."
My cat dont like the sound of My fan heater and will keep pestering Me until I turn it off.
My cat loves the AC and sleeps better when it's on 😆 He even exposes his belly and stretches out even when it's really cold 😆
I have a cat that does the same thing. He even has a heated shelter outside and still sleeps in the cold.
My daughter’s cat went ‘catatonic’ and dropped over sideways on the floor when she put a costume on him. She tried picking him up but he stayed stiff with legs straight out. She took it off, he stretched, walked away & literally ignored (usually very affectionate) her for hours!
😂 😂 Cats and their attitudes.
Lol
My daughter's first cat loved to wear my daughter's necklaces. If she took them off, Susie would get mad. And you never wanted to make Susie mad. If you did and didn't apologize ( like if you accidentally stepped on her foot) she would wait until you took off your shoes and pee in them.
That's an awesome cat
If I put a dog shirt on my cat he'd lower his head to the ground like he was being punished. When he'd chase the other cat I'd say, "Stop it or I'll put you in your shame shirt."
My cat, Audrey, loves sleeping under the Christmas tree. She never messes with the tree, just enjoys the lights and the tree.
She may also like smelling the tree.
Perhaps likes the warmth?
My parents'/my childhood pet cat Lucy does the same! I think she feels safe underneath it.
That’s so cute, I also love her name.
Mine too, we put a bed under it for him…he also likes to surprise attack us from under the tree when we pass by
Ive been binging your videos, i lost my kitty after q8 years and learned now I did a lot of things wrong but also she was a happy confident cat. Its been over a year now and i decided to pick up a rescue. With all I learned in the past days plus my experience i am gonna make her life so good. Thank you
Ah yes, my cats were thoroughly annoyed with the new covid schedule. We were totally encroaching on their usage of the master bed
how dare we encroach on their space! 🤣🤣
Lots of long-haul truckers get kittens to ride along for company. Once they adjust to the noises and flying scenery, the cats often love it, too.
Dakota the Bunny Face Cat is one of those. He and his brother and sisters all drive long haul with their dad. He’s got a great setup in his cab and they love it.
Cute :) My neighbour trained her kitty to ride in her backpack :)
Often the cats will be in the front window lying on the dashboard watching people
walk by with minimal interest.
Absolutely. My cousin is a long-haul driver and has had a few cats through the years. They love it. There is plenty of daily routine, but also a LOT of interesting stuff to see from the security of that truck cab.
I love how my cat "helps me wrap gifts" and sits right in the middle of the unrolled wrapping paper. It's hilarious.
same with my laundry & making the beds 😅
Mine really hates when I break down boxes. She'll jump in it.
My mom's cats "help" her with her sewing projects
They have to be in the middle of the action.
Just dealt with that the other night. I push him off and he waits a few minutes and comes right back. LOL
The best men love cats. This has been my experience.
Men who love cats are sexy. There. I said it. :-)
My husband was absolutely against having cats 🐈 around. Well, let’s just say we have since rescued 6 from abandonment from the streets of the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 (we live in DR).
There are some extroverted cats. Try and get some kittens off your keyboard.
ProgressiveHeart That's my cat, totally. 😹 But when she wants attention, she will most definitely let me know.
That’s why I’m a cat person. I know that when my cat jumps up on my lap that she’s doing it because she wants to, and not because she was “trained” to.

Actually, he was thanking you!
Just wanted to say Jackson that I never thought I would come across anyone else who understood cats so well. You have enlightened me several times. 👍😸

What a good baby ❤

You have the sweetest vibe in RUclips, you’re funny and considerate and being a cat lover just makes you an irresistibly beautiful human being 🧡
Thank you for your knowledge and love.
my cat hates smoke alarms (but really, who doesn't?) but for some reason she loves fireworks. she'll sit in the window and watch them for ages once she hears one go off. i love my little weirdo.
Our first cat hated them at the beginning, but as the night wore on, he acted like he wanted to go shoot off a few.
My cat always sits by me when I play the guitar. Doesn't matter how loud, she is my biggest fan. I tell my wife she is my groupie.
The same with my cats, although they prefer a bass guitar - much lower tones
My cat dont like the noise of My music out the speakers, He dont like the washing machine, He dont like Me using a fan in the summer or the heater fan in winter. He will pester and Maow until I turn it off. Very annoying.
Mine rolls around the top of my Grand Piano like a rock star.
@@pinkpunk9460 my female calico sits by my amp when I play my bass and my kitten is fascinated by my synth he comes running whenever he hears it haha
my cats HATES when I practice drums (electric), and as I close the closet door and window for the nieghbors, he knows drumming is coing and does that funny cat chirping as a protest....
Aww😻😻😻! So sweet.
Mine dont mind the cold also that lovely breeze better than the heater.
Mine too! He was the absolute best kitty. I have a Bengal mix now, and he’s totally bonkers.
I want a Maine Coon so badly but it's be happy with any cat at this point haha
Jackson *saves Bramble from falling*
Bramble: What about i fall anyway? *"falls" down*
Our cat is VERY regimented on her schedule and hates if we deviate from the routine. LOVE the “cat eye” ring very cool!
My cat Jack loved being in the car. I would prop his cage up on my lap and he'd look at the window. He didn't fuss, he was very calm. RIP Black Jack Beanie baby❤️
I’ve always been a cat person. You’ve hit on the most important points about what cats hate. Many are also mistrusting of belly scratches until they trust and love you very much. Thanks for all your wisdom. Every new to cats owner should subscribe to your channel.
@@marywilliams1646 I have tried to train mine on a harness and it just doesn’t work. Lucky :)
I think some of that has to deal with how staticy their fur gets and how overstimilating it can be if someone isn't gentle about it
I've learned to give chin scratches instead.
Ps.
@@BlinkinFirefly I worked as a plushie man handing out leaflets for month I can confirm this
Everyday and I do it 2Xs a day. He's pretty spoiled yet he litterbox trained first day💜 he came from the outside world. Just think cat. And I've been a dog person for decades. Cats are insane smart. People underestimate that I think. I'm still learning yet it's best for him and his quality of life is vital
