Thanks for mentioning which tool set to choose (Typography). Yours is the best tutorial I've seen. So glad to find your videos! I have used Adobe products for 30 years, Your approach from the beginning tools is effective and rare.
Tysm for this video! I'm a med student who knows nothing about design software and I have to design a magazine for my Spanish class. In other words this video is a life saver!!
Hi Lisa, how great you are in explaining. I have a Mac Book Air. Where shall I buy my InDesign program and how do I know that the "size" fits on my 11 inch computer ? Thanks for your fabulous work. Cheers Martina
Hi Martina: Sorry the incredibly late response but an 11inch sounds way too small of a screen to do any real graphic design or page layout work. Also - I would upgrade to a MacBook Pro - the Air is not going to be robust enough to handle Adobe software without getting the beachball of death. You can purchase Adobe Creative Cloud here which includes InDesign clk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=264355&a=3013964&g=22793596
Hi Lisa, just to balance the 'too fast' feedback - I need to learn InDesign for work and happened upon your tutorial first! I actually watched it through on 1.75x speed, and followed along fine, just paused it to complete each step. It was super helpful for me, thank you! :)
Hi Ava: I'd love to give you a number but it really depends on a large number of factors like: 1) the type of paper binding - will they be stitched, glued and in how many batches 2) what type of cover will be wrapped around the spine 3) the page count 4) the page thickness gsm # 5) the glue and so many more factors. You'll want to check with the printer once you get all of your specs in place.
Thank you, that was very helpful, i have adobe cc and never used in design, i just wanted to get an idea of what it is for since i am paying for it. You have a very effective teaching technique, l like it that you have a view of yourself on the screen, in not sure why, but it helps.
I found the 5 day Indesign mini course frustrating because I was only allowed to watch on video a day. So I stopped working with it and when I came back to my course I was denied access to the course until I once again gave all my email information. Its a bit frustrating to have the course locked on me.. I understand it was free and something you could charge for later but it sure it frustrating to be limited to doing 1 tiny bit of work each day and then not able to move forward at my own pace. It has not made me want to purchase other courses due to the limitations.
When I scale a text box to be less than the text contained a little red + symbol pops up. What is that functionality called. You can use it without it having a red + ... It changes to cursor to a t with some lines. When you click it creates another text box. So confusing.
Hi Georg: The red . + is overflow text. If you double click the text box perimeter, then it will automatically re-size to accommodate your text. I have a FREE InDesign 101 course on my site that you might find helpful lisasiefert.thinkific.com/courses/indesign-101 XOXO Lisa
Hi Andria: You can purchase Adobe InDesign from the Creative Cloud site at clk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=264355&a=3013964&g=22793590 Hope that helps - XOXO Lisa
Hi Arthur: Yes, I do! There's an updated version of this at ruclips.net/video/SNYVQvl4Hzs/видео.html and my favorite is #3 - he's certified in pretty much everything Adobe and always has new videos up! rebrand.ly/indesignlaptop XOXO Lisa
Thanks for the feedback Syed - I've made some changes to video for the new ones coming out in future episodes so that should make the screen crisper & improve the clarity!
Hi Lisa, I know we should say in the comment how fabulous, great etc, what you do, but as we know, we only learn from the honest feedback. And my honest feedback is: just as other tutorials I have found, you are waaaaaaay tooooo fast. Remember how we learned to drive? "Put the gear into First." (instructor waits for ten seconds, until student finds the first gear.) "Got it?" Student: I think so. Instructor: "Ok, then slowly, let the clutch and give a little gas..." (Ten seconds later..." "Very good..." the way these tutorials on youtube go, with the above analogy of learning to drive a car: (Instructor) "Put the gear into First. Then do this... then do that... and off you go!..." waaaay tooo fast. sorry, maybe a different generation, but I am also a teacher, so speaking from experience: after every single new thing you teach, you must count to five, at least. just something to think about. cheers
I agree with the bottom Comm there. Your tutorial is helpful, but you are way too fast. I am worried I will never learn this program. There is so much to remember and I also wonder why people who make these videos don’t make a one sheet instructional available afterwards. I think the written instructions would be so helpful! I know it is the electronic age, but we all make notes, don’t we??
Hi there: Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, download sheets are helpful and I try to make downloads for many things but I'm a 1-woman shop so I don't always have time to do so for every video. I'm sorry you found this video too fast and without notes. I hope you find another channel that is more to your liking. I am definitely not the channel for you since I do talk fast and I do not have the capacity to make notes for every video. XOXO Lisa
This was really helpful to understanding these little things that can drive you crazy if you don't know them.
Thx .Nice easy beginners guide. helped plenty!
