Beautiful layout! I love the ability to run either in the 50s or the 80s, both are super interesting modeling eras, and with great railroads too! Love the video, really well done!
I like both eras so much I often have a hard time changing. I've been running CR for a while, and I keep thinking "just one more week, and then I'll go back to PRR." But I think I will go back next week. Really! Cheers, Ted
Thanks, mystic. In the 1950's the locomotives are PRR and B&O, while in the 1980's it's mostly Conrail with a Chessie and N&W. (That's all the variety I can afford!) However, a variety of rolling stock accompanies them. Cheers, Ted
Thanks, RailArtist. My next video is focused on my card system and operations. After that, in about 3 weeks, I hope to do an actual operating session in the 1980's Conrail setting.
Excellent Video I really enjoyed watching your video keep up the great work looking forward to seeing your next video soon thanks again and hope you have a wonderful day
Thanks for the encouragement. In about 2 weeks I will upload a Conrail video, then in a few weeks a PRR video, and then in a few more weeks I will do a "flashback" video of my SP layout 30 years ago, with me using a VHS camcorder and having my 12-year-old daughter run the trains. Cheers, Ted
hello Ted...Wilmer from Indian Head Valley RR sent me over. He did a shout out for you last week...you have a great looking & running layout...you can have the best of both worlds...steam & diesel...anyhow... i like what is see in this video & decided to give you a shout out also in my Friday night live stream ..the show starts at 8pm eastern.. hope you join in..thx 4 sharing... vinny
Hi Vinny, Thanks for the shout out. I saw the comment too late to join in the live-stream. Between you and Wilmer I got a definite bump up in subscribers. I like to run the 1950's/PRR because it's the era of my first memory of trains. But I also like the 1980's and Conrail because it gives me an opportunity to run Conrail, Chessie and NW, which I vividly remember in the 1980's in Ohio. My layout 30+ years ago was SP, but I also ran some BN on it. But after a 15-year gap with no model railroad, I moved to a house with less room for a layout, and I went with PRR/Conrail and a more "eastern" look to things. My next video will be Conrail, then PRR, and after that I'll do a "flashback" and upload a camcorder video of my long ago SP layout. Cheers, Ted
I'm 77 and I've been a rail fan since 1950. What brand of couplers are you using and how are they activated. I've never seen any in HO that work as well.
Hi Roger, I will be 75 in November. The couplers are Kadee 158 couplers. They are a bit more to scale than the regular Kadees and, for me, work just as well. Your results may vary. Coupling is easy. Uncoupling as in the video occurs when the camera is off, and I use an uncoupling pick, then start the camera again. So it appears that the uncoupling occurs as if I were using "the force."
