    Hi Robin, don't throw out the stalk it has a lot of flavor in it, even more than the florettes.
    I like to use it when making cauliflower cream soup. I use it for making a cauliflower stock before going on to making the cream soup. Also I use the stalk in vegetable stock and even add one to the classic mirepoix if I have one left over.
    For just using it's flavor and discarding it afterwards, you can simply cut it into pieces and deep freeze, if you have no use right away. Throw the frozen pieces into the cooking liquid and off you go.
    BTW, same goes for stalks of cabbage and other vegetables where you don't like to use the stalk, it makes a great addition of flavor in a vegetable soup and if left whole/in big chunks it is easier to fish them out, if you just want the flavor but don't like to eat any of it. Otherwise cut them up and add them back to the soup.

    why does it need to be rinsed? especially if you're cooking it? i've only made baked cauliflour with oil/salt 2 times and haven't rinsed it both times. Didn't have any issues with it tho.

    • @RockinRobinCooks
      @RockinRobinCooks  3 года назад

      I think it's a good idea. If you buy a conventional one, I would definitely rinse it. It grows in the ground and may have some dirt or bugs on it. Do what you think is best!
