Hi Fiona, I'm currently a sophomore in AP Precalculus BC halfway through the year. We're currently doing trig and I find the course rather straightforward. I've been consistently scoring 95+% on tests without needing to spend much time studying since the material feels so straightforward. I got a 1500 on the PSAT (760 on math), as math in general is something I'm strong at. Looking back, I regret not taking Geometry over the summer or being in my school's math program that lets you take Algebra 1 in 6th grade, either of which would have put me on the track of taking AP Calc BC this year. I'm now considering self-studying AP Calc BC this year and registering late to take the AP exam in May. In terms of my current calculus knowledge, I know how to calculate maxima / minima on a restricted domain, create variation tables, and do basic integration + differentiation. I've kind of been doing "self studying" and am currently working on velocity and area applications (to graphs, functions, etc). My school has a very capable peer tutoring system where I could get help from students in Multivar, and I also do C2 Education prep which has a former AP Calc BC and Multivar teacher who stated that he would be happy to help me, should I choose to self-study. If you do end up seeing this comment, I would really appreciate some advice, so do you think self-studying AP Calc BC at this point in the year is realistic given my situation or is it overambitious? Thank you
Hi Dan, Based on what you’ve shared, I don’t think self-studying for AP Calculus BC is overambitious at all-it really depends on the score you’re aiming for. Keep in mind that the exam also provides a Calculus AB subscore, which might influence your decision on whether to register and take it. Since you’re a sophomore, you have the flexibility to use this year’s exam as a learning experience. Even if you don’t achieve your ideal score in May, you can always retake it as a junior. The May 2025 exam could serve as a valuable practice run. You also have so many resources at your disposal! If you feel confident that you have the time and energy to dedicate to this subject, I think it’s definitely worth the effort. When I self-studied to earn a 5 on AP Calculus BC, some people thought it was overly ambitious, but I found that with the right amount of focus and determination, it was absolutely achievable. Let me know if you have any other questions!
incredible video, please continue to make more!❤❤
You did a good job 👍 summarizing the key 🗝️ points in preparation for the exam!
I think 🤔 it will be a great help!😅
Thank you ! 😊
