- In this restoration project, I used
- 2 gallons of distilled vinegar and some kosher salt
- 3 wire brush wheels and 1 cup brush from Harbor Freight ( • Warrior Wire Brush Set... )
- 1 Ryobi drill
- 1 Wire brush
- 1 screw driver
WARNING: Do not wash the restored grates with water. Raw iron reacts to water quickly. You can wipe the grates down with paper towels. Just wipe them till the towels come clean. You can repeatedly rub a thin layer of cooking oil on and wipe it off with paper towels. Again, when it's clean enough to your liking, you can send the oiled grates into a 350-400 degree oven and bake the grates for 30-40 minutes. I repeat the baking process twice or three times.
Thank you for your video! It helped me a lot in my decision on my Weber Q and what to do :)
I admire your commitment to this project. I’ve just spent 2 days cleaning my Weber Q and that was hard work. Compared to what yours looked like to now, you’ve done an amazing job! 👏
Looks great. Mine isn't as rusted but this gave me the confidence in restoring it.
Great video, shame that cost doesn't really add up, but you saved these grates going to landfill :)
Always cook with the lid down.
You get an A+ for effort but I think those grates are missing too much metal better to just buy a replacement grate even of its aftermarket.
I 100% agree with you. It took way too much time and effort. And it's rusty again.
