  • Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
$46.95 (although pretty sure I picked this one up on sale back just after Christmas)
    Strength: 92 Proof
Colour: Between Tawny and Mahogany on my colour chart.
Clarity: It's whiskey.... (this answer doesn't really change)
    Legs: Still seems pretty fast
Beading: Bubbles up fairly significantly and oddly enough they stick around a touch more than usual.
Glass: We're tasting in a glencairn, following up with a murder glass (tumbler)
Nose: Really decent nose on this one, I don't know what I was expecting, but very lovely nose here. Got some sweet corn, vanilla, caramel, spice, and a touch of anise. Although I could be wrong on that last note.
Palate: I've come around on this bottle, the neck pour may have got me down last time around. Noticing Honey, smooth caramel, cinnamon, vanilla, a bit of anise (although that may be just in my head) and a progressing and stengthening black pepper taste... which I don't love here, but it hasn't turned me off as much as it would in say... a red wine.
A really long finish, the whiskey staaaaaaaaaaays with you, and so does the black pepper.
As I stated in the video, this pour REALLY helped me come around on this, I still don't really LOVE a wheater, (I think I miss the rye flavour a lot here) but I've come a long way towards appreciating this one. I don't think it'll even be a go-to pour, but I wouldn't shy away from this one either. I really wasn't expecting to enjoy this one nearly as much as I did today, maybe it was just the right pout for this dreary Whiskey Wednesday.
The bottle itself is pretty cool looking, that may have more to do with the label and key-hole design, the whiskey has a really fun story to go along with it, I have a distinct feeling this is going to find itself near the Blade and Bow and play with the lock and key theme a bit.
Time for that time honoured question....
    Does it Old-Fashion?
OF COURSE IT DOES... I went sliiiiiiiiiiiiightly less sweet on this one, and I think I did it a favour, this may have benefitted from a different bitters instead of orange, I'm just not sure which way to turn... whether it'd be more fitting for a Peychaud's bitters, maybe a chocolate bitters, or even a hot pepper bitters... Time will tell I suppose.
Thansk for coming by hopefully you liked this video, if you did, maybe throw me a like, if you liked hanging out with Espo online, subscribe, and if you want to show other people this drink, share it around!
