  • Murder At The Station: The Hidden Affair (True Crime Documentary) | Real Stories
On 17 October 2008, Paula Poolton went missing - her body was found 11 days later in the boot of her car, parked outside the local railway station. During police enquiries, it was revealed that Paula and a man named Roger Kearney had been having an affair. On the night in question, Kearney says he ate dinner at home and watched television with his partner before driving to his night shift at the post office. Although no forensic evidence was found linking Kearney to the car, he was convicted of the murder.
Across the two episodes, cameras follow as Louise Shorter works diligently to explore every avenue of the case. The film reveals what is really involved in the process of presenting a claim to the Criminal Cases Review Commission in the hope of getting a rare referral to the Court of Appeal.
Documentary following a team of experts as they investigate whether evidence exists that could challenge the conviction of a man in prison for a murder he denies. Every year, over 500 people in the UK are convicted of murder. A guilty verdict can only be challenged if new evidence comes to light - and less than 1% of cases are ever overturned. Inside Justice is a specialist charity led by Louise Shorter, supported by a panel of criminal lawyers, ex-police officers and forensics experts who offer assistance to prisoners who are protesting their innocence.

The case is tragic and she didn’t deserve what happened to her. It is dangerous to get into these emotional/sexual entanglements with a married man/woman and if you take that risk, you have to know that most ppl don’t leave their spouses. You are number 2, for entertainment purposes, newness, a break from the life they’ve settled into. Don’t try to replace their spouses, don’t threaten to tell their spouses and don’t become pregnant. Play your role IF you so decide to get into these sort of things, which you shouldn’t. To be clear, no one deserves to be killed. Make better decisions and keep yourself safe. There are too many cases like these. May she RIP

@Lois Ann Welsh well she didn't deserve to die. Just becuz he was a liar, manipulator, psychopath killer...??? If that's not a weird statement I don't know what is...These trifling add weak men are the reasons women die...Pathetic to say the leash. But we really know what this devil was lying to get about to keep her but she didn't deserve to die.
P.s Men do leave their wives for there mistress so it could be a possibility so we don't know and never will because of this idiot..He's guilty

I agree with much of your comment, however instead of calling it an "entanglement" let's call it what it really is > cheating, adultery, spousal mental abuse, etc. When someone selfishly cheats, and their spouse finds out, that's a form of mental abuse, and don't get me started on cheaters who give their spouse an STD as a result of their cheating. Though I'm not saying Paula or Roger gave STDs to their spouses.
I don't think Paula deserved to be murdered, but I've no sympathy for grown adults who selfishly cheat on their spouses as Roger & Paula did. I do have sympathy for their innocent loved ones.

Full truth. I supported a friend through one of those. She was basically groomed until she was of age until the affair started. She loved him so much and thought he loved her. In hindsight I was the emotional side she couldn't get from him. Kind of a secondary abuse, I was her age.
So often the second (or third, or fourth) woman is shamed and blamed alone, but they just meet men confirming their mental issues with emotionally unavailable men. The married man makes the decision to cheat and objectify women, and often there are more than two. There were in my friend's case and also others I heard about. The story is often set up like "wife vs mistress" while there are many more.

As of today 9-6-21 the search I just did says Kearney has not gotten an appeal he sought. The expert volunteers, Louise etc al, must not have come up with new evidence and so probably would not support an appeal yet . . .
Last bit of losing last appeal request was late September 2020.

Lol. Evidence can be destroyed if found to be a risk to public health...or if all appeals have been exhausted there's no legal requirement for evidence to be preserved...yada yada just look to the hall of mirrors, try to find the crack...

I never understand how cases can hinge on CCTV footage that almost always looks like something car-shaped blurred past. Almost every footage I've ever seen on news reports etc has been so pixellated, so blurry, I can't figure out anyone could come to conclusions. TV Drama has a LOT to answer for with their crystal clear (ish) images and quick one-two click on the keyboard and every police station can enhance any footage.

But, you don't know what he could be capable of when its a different kind of love, there is a difference in love for children and love for a partner. I would be shocked to discover that anyone other than my parents have photographs of me out, or even close to hand in a cupboard. My bf & I have been together for 15 years and have I think 1 photograph from the first couple months of dating, and that's tucked away somewhere on a hard drive...maybe in an old email. We had a cat for 11 years and when she died I realized we had no photographs of her, except ones on old phones that we aren't even sure where to begin looking to find on the off chance we could power them back up or get the old SIM card. =(

He wouldn't have even gotten a trial, in most States here, in America. They need much more than; "He was acting like a guilty person," at least.
More than just loose, circumstantial, (at best,) evidence linking a person of interest to a case, to even keep somebody in jail for more than 72, (some places even only 24,) hours, before being officially charged, or they must release them until sufficient evidence is forthcoming.
To even be considered a "suspect," they need something that's at a minimum, probable cause.
    (I'm just sayin' ✌)

They need to just stop. I’m all for the innocence project , or equivalents to it, to review cases where there is very good reason to consider a possible miscarriage of justice, I.e new dna evidence, witnesses who lie, etc, and so these projects are important and have a place in our society because the worst that can happen is for an innocent person to be imprisoned! However, this case is not one of those.

Honestly, it looks like the loved ones of murder victims would always want to be sure that the person in prison for the crime is really guilty. Because if not, the murderer is not being held accountable.

sooo... the old bag brings up there was supposedly a 3rd man , some mysterious french man , then they say that the car my have been driven by the killer , there would be a chance of dna in the car then , also there'd have to be blood on the steering wheel from the gloves

Why would he put her in the trunk? Why wouldn’t he just leave her in the car and risk being seen picking up a body and would he had enough time to get any blood off of his clothing and get to work when he did?

this is all pretty amateur stuff , they have cctv footage but ask "experts" to guess what type of car . why not put different model cars in those positions and driving by those locations and have a computer program identify a match ? why are these guys evading that simple procedure ?

    @7hilladelphia 4 года назад +6

She asks him to recount the evening in as much detail as possible right? You'd expect some immersive vivid imagery but he goes, dinner at 6, we watched a bit of tv, I left for work around 10.... ok Roger, yeah, that's detailed, that's personal, you're speaking the truth from your heart, yeah right mayte.... already I think he's not being truthful.... should I keep watching ?

I tried to think how I might answer something like this if I was in his position. Honestly, my memory is so bad that my response would probably sound really similar to this, but I'd probably say "about" 6 or "about" 10. Not defending him, just observing how scary that would be for people with bad memories. Good thing i will never be in this position!
