  • Do you want to know some signs of chronically enacted cortisol levels?
Cortisol is intricately involved in fat metabolism, and consistently high cortisol levels can lead to increased fat storage, particularly around your stomach. If you notice unexplained weight gain, especially around the midsection, it could be a sign of elevated cortisol levels.
You're chronically stressed - Cortisol is released in response to stress so if you’re experiencing stress related to work, relationships, finances, stress from eating processed food, or poor sleep, it can result in consistently high levels If cortisol.
You're having sleep issues: Cortisol follows a diurnal rhythm, with levels being highest in the morning and lowest at night. When cortisol levels are consistently elevated though, it can disrupt your circadian rhythm, leading to sleep disturbances like waking up frequently, and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
You're experiencing Anxiety and mood swings: High cortisol levels can affect your mood and emotions. If you are experiencing increased anxiety, irritability, mood swings, or even depression, it could be a good indicator of elevated cortisol levels.
You have chronic low energy: Cortisol is involved in regulating energy levels, and high cortisol levels can disrupt normal energy patterns. If you are feeling fatigued, lacking in energy, or experiencing a general sense of exhaustion despite adequate rest, it could be related to elevated cortisol levels.

THANK YOU! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 1997-ish. For the past 10 years it has been worsening, and I've noticed that despite taking my morning Synthroid exactly as directed, I oscillate between hypo and hyper episodes. This has coin coded with a more stressful job position, and I have believed there was a link,: stressful week=hypo, then on the weekend, stress gone, all the T4 that I took gets processed at once, and I'm hyper for 2 days, until the cycle starts again. I have seen several endocrinogists and doctors who told me, essentially, that I'm full of crap. Only recently did I find an end who believed me and told me about the cortisol-thyroid link. No I am managing the stress, and the thyroid. peaks and valleys are leveling off. Alas, If I had known this years ago! Again THANK YOU for this information! It will be a great help to many

Should do a segment on Cushing’s disease/syndrome. People seem to be ignorant to the idea that some people gain weight because of medical problems. But high cortisol consistently high (or even cyclically high) has a medical name. It’s called Cushing’s disease or Cushing’s syndrome depending on the cause of the hypercortisolism.

Just have had cortisol levels checked due to very advanced osteoporosis. They came back normal. I have lots of symptoms of high cortisol, though. I actually already do try to manage stress, eat well, get enough sleep (which has been difficult lately,) because I have raging PVCs that are worse when I'm stressed. But the PVCs are now very frequent even when I don't "feel" stressed, so...I don't know. I'm too young for my bones to be literally disintegrating, keep hoping there will be something more definitive than "oh well" but not sure chronically high cortisol would have been the answer I wanted since if it was, my efforts to manage it have already failed. 😅
