    I’m only halfway through this so far (listening to it while I draw funnily enough), but this is easily the most hilarious reaction to this film I’ve seen. Your commitment to analysis over just breaking down and making fun of it is admirable lmao

    I’ve got the worst headache after watching this with you, lol! It was definitely tough to sit through, but I learned a lot from both you and the film. It really shows the importance for writers to avoid letting personal messages come across as preachy, and the value of cutting scenes that might be personally meaningful to the writer but don’t ultimately serve the plot. I'd love to see you review/ give your insights of writing of the first episode of Avatar the Last Airbender in setting up your world, introducing characters, and starting the plot.

      I have never checked it out, but it’s on my list now! I am always fascinated by how stories play with rules. Writing rules are funny because they are both free to break and also exist there for a reason. But it’s so satisfying when something pulls it off well

      Biggest issues I had narratively are the insane amount of redundant and conflicting back stories, it felt like he had the restart the project a few times and refused not to use the animations and performances he had already made.

    I have no evidence to support this, but it feels like this was meant to be a show with multiple episodes but at some point they realized that was unachievable. But they still had all this footage from different episodes already made so tried to splice it together into one movie.

    I'm saying this the most respectful way:
    Had the author not mentioned to take the work seriously this would have been widely acclaimed.

    With the brain rot culture, this would've easily been an instance of "so bad it's good".

  • @nitrogenfixed
    @nitrogenfixed 8 дней назад +1

    This video is so damn funny lmao
    Taking it seriously! I think the animation is pretty solid with the context of how it was made and the fact that it's an amateur work. It seems like a passion project in terms of the visual work, so I can at least appreciate that the themes of the artist's struggle and all that feel sincere because the animation is sincere. It's badly written and structured, but I do think the people involved should continue working to improve their craft.
    Also, a lot of the dialogue lines are weirdly well-delivered imo? Like, not fabulous or anything because the stuff they were given to work with was bad, but they did their best. Even the annoying wizard was like...well, that dude was playing to the part!
    I think people who are making fun of it would have been less put off and less mocking if the film took itself and them a little more seriously. No need to pad runtime with repeated scenes or three intros. If it were just the 20 minute mark onward with some tweaks, most of it would have been...still bad, but clearly a passion project and not a baffling disconnected series of words as everyone's first impression of the film. Feeling the need to pad the runtime and include utter nonsense makes it harder to take seriously or see as a work that has something to say.
    Hope your kid is feeling better!

    I'm 15 minutes into this video, which is 2 minutes into the actual movie, and I'm trying. I'm trying so hard to treat this fairly and keep an open mind, but I'm also feeling /so/ incredibly upset by everything that's happening in this movie so far. Why did we get three different introductory monologues? Why did all of those monologues keep repeating the same exact points? Why did they abruptly change topics multiple times in each monologue? Why was the language used in said monologues so stilted and robotic? And /why/ am I still talking about the monologues? There shouldn't be /this/ much to say about them, especially not so much to *critique* right off the bat.
    edit: 21 minutes into this video now, a bit further into this movie, WHY IS THERE ANOTHER INTRO???? I'm gonna cry. I'm actually gonna cry, I don't know if I can do this.

    Another question. Would you be open to reacting to an artist who goes by NF? Any of his music would be great, but "Story" is a great example of his storytelling skills. If this isn't something you would be interested in, that is perfectly fine too, I love your content. I just feel like you would enjoy it, and it would be awesome to hear your perspective and commentary on his work.
