have you ever tried mixing the vegi caviar into the rice and beef when you said something about ketchup all i could think is a bet the vegi caviar would be nice in it
That’s crazy! Never seen meatballs in any MRE before! The only other thing that surprised me as much was, I think it was a ration from Italy, had a single serving of wine included in it!
Great review, as always, Nathan! The logo on the front of the ration says "Hunting, fishing, tourism". The first small container is called "speck" in German and is smoked pork. You can put that in pea and ham soup. Those two pashtyet/paté packs; the first one is straight liver and the second one says "gentle" or "mild", so it should be less "livery". Puréed apples and apple jam in the same ration is strange but welcome. The tefteli/meatballs look fantastic. I'd stir some pepper into the vegetable "caviar" and have that with the rice kasha. Stay safe! Garry from Australia.
Hello Nathan. Due to the virus going around. Boarders are closed to shipping. Due you know any canadian sites where l can get a case of MRE's? Your help would be really appreciated. Baciba
Nice review Nathan. The good thing about russian rations, they always come with o ton of spread. The meatballs look great. Thanks to Vasily for sending this over to you. He is a great guy. Stay safe my friend
I would sacrifice pretty much anything in ration as long as they got some nice spices in there. Salt & pepper combo should be mandatory for every savory main dish and hot sauce should also be there. Something like ketchup, soy sauce, or other sauces could also be thrown in sometimes. Even if you don't use it at the time, you can save it for later. And thing that they put way too much on rations is sugar, seems to be pretty much universal thing.
Very cool sir! I hope you are semi sane, during these difficult times , Nathan. Most items, are, normal, to Soviet rations, and, I love them all, or, at least most. Some of the liver pate, can be strong. The spitsk, fat, works nicely , when heated, and, worked into kasha. Helps the kasha greatly, and, keeps you from eating solid fat. The veggie caviar, like the, apple jam, apple butter, varies, between manufacturers. Color, texture, and more. I enjoy all, just, some more than others. Liver pate, as , stated earlier, I like most. Some, well, just too damn strong, with, mineral taste! Peas, carrots, meat, meal, looked different, and, good. I do not remember, from any Russian ration, I have tried? Nicely done. Peace, John, AKA, Magnum. Shout out, to, Vas and Dennis. Peace.
Just found your channel through Steve's, great stuff man. I just recently found around 6 mre's from 2000 -2008 in an abandoned house here in NW Florida. I tossed some stuff from the accessory packs due to moisture from the salt absorbing it along with liquified skittles lol. But I'm nervous as hell to check the mains out. The pound cakes have been fine, but I did manage to get a pack of discontinued nacho cheese combos im dying to try haha.
Wouldn't be the craziest of ideas to mix a little of that apple sauce into the meatballs if you felt the need to freshen up the flavour; same goes for the ikra.
Nathan I have an orders coming from eBay that has 4 Russian rations and a couple of other countries I have received all of them except for the 4 Russian ones what is the normal wait time on some of these rations
It would be nice if your videos were less cultured. There is so much going on at one point in time it’s hard to focus on one detail of the MRE. Love your videos thank you
These "camping" or "fishing/hunting" -rations are actually used by russian mercenary troops. It's basically the same as Russian army, but Russia tends to like to hide their troops under that category at east-ukraine and syria. Mercenary troops don't have to report losses to government, so they can basically do what they want. No hunter/fisherman needs so many calories in their 24h forest trip quite honestly.
I like liver enough that it's dangerous... bigger KFC's with the buffet will be able to make large and small orders of breaded chicken liver if you wait for it. As protein and nutrient goes it's unbelievably cheap, like 2lbs breaded and cooked for $4.35

Wish the US rations were like it. Especially all the spreads for on the go and cold.
