This whole album, one of the greatest ever, is all about vibe.
You right about that
It's a shame they couldn't get along as a band. In my opinion it was the most unique rock album of 1979. It had to have 5 or 6 songs that were top 20. Part of my life anthem is "and I would go on shining, Shiney like brand new. I never look behind me, my troubles will be few"..
One of the great guitar outros. It's a great album and "crime of the century" is a terrific album too
That guitar outro should have been like 9 minutes long.
“Take the long way home” and “The Logical song” are my favorites from Supertramp.
Hell yeah, both are awesome but the logic song man that’s just the best
Casual conversation is awesome
At School to that list.
The ending guitar....is amazing....tremendous. Love Supertramp!!
Regards from Chile 🙂
Your Frankie Valley observation is spot on.
When I was a kid (in the 90’s lol) I actually always thought this was Frankie Valli singing the falsetto. Since I’ve learned more about Supertramp, this has become one of my favorite songs of theirs. I’m so glad you’re getting to check them out, they have some fantastic songs. This whole album was great.
Your assumption about Frankie Valli was reasonable!
Same! But a kid of the 80s.
Classic tune! Supertramp has a whole catalog of them. Check them all out and enjoy!
Good ear. Yes falsetto singing like that was actually a hallmark of 1950s pop music. They put it to good use here to contrast with the other voice that is down in a chest register. And the repetitive aspect of it just drills itself into your brain. I would also say that the texture of this song in a lot of ways reminds me of later Beatles.
That guitar at the end sounds to me like it has chorus, phase shift, wah pedal, and reverb on it.
I bought this album in high school and played the hell out of it and of course all the hits from this and their other albums were on the radio very frequently.
Love the group, and my favorite song is Bloody Well Right
All of Supertramp's music is phenomenal as you'll find out on the deep dive. Personally my fave is Take The Long Way Home.....just a driving the scenic route vibing 🕊️💜
This is a jump in your car and cruise song. Lots of great albums came out in 1979 and I was working in a stereo shop. An amazing time. Keep up the good work, Silas.
This is one of my favorites!
They were one of my favorite bands when I was your age. I saw them on the tour for this album and they were great. The one instrument that you like is the saxophone.
Your enthusiasm is catching , I saw the Frankie Vali and the Four Seasons Musical in Sheffield UK. I was also lucky enough to see them for real in 1972 at a Sheffield Night Club. I have also seen Supertramp Twice, excellent!
Check out some 4 Seasons with us dude "Let's Hang On" "Sherry" "Rag Doll" and live on the New Jersey boardwalk in 1966 "Opus 17"
OH...LOVE SUPERTRAMP
Nice choice - another of those side-to-side albus from back in the day - it would be a crime if you did not react to Crime of the Century, & maybe their best song "Fools Overture" from their "Even in the Quietest Moments LP. All good stuff!
Very good on Frankie Vali and falsetto singing
I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 3 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.
"Eclectic" comes to mind when I think of this band. I'm not sure if that's the correct
word, but It's definitely meant as a compliment! maybe "unique" is a good word.
If you really want to treat yourself, watch them perform all these songs when they
toured to promote this album. In Paris I think.
You’re experiencing an awesome song for the first time. It’s documented. I’m almost 50 and I envy you.
Love me some Supertramp.
The live version of this song is a lot of fun.
He’s saying goodbye to smoking pot and to his old self. He said he had smoked so much that he had become a stranger to himself.
That would be Roger Hodgson with the high voice ! He now has a solo career and goes out on tour once a year !
Nope. Rick did all the vocals on this one.
@@pfenigma My bad , My Comment was more than impulse reaction to let him know that of the 2 lead singers Roger Hudson had the higher voice !
@@pfenigma Roger and John did the high harmonies. Watch the Live In Paris video.
@@donnakubiski5572 correct, as Rick can't sing both parts at the same time live. This reaction video is for the album version.
A song about a rock star’s life on the road. New girl every night…
ALSO: if you like these harmonies try The Beach Boys. ‘Sloop John B’ or ‘Good Vibrations’ are great songs to start with. Or ‘Do it Again’
Perfect album
You’re going to love the journey - the album closer is epic, best album closer of all time IMO.
That beautiful high vocal is Roger Hodgson. And that amazing guitar solo is him too. He's been performing and touring live for the past 25 years solo and with his new band. He wrote most of the Supertramp songs and he's been performing them all over the world. He plays the piano, electronic keyboards and acoustic and electric guitars too. Check his channel out on RUclips.
Rick sung the falsetto, with Roger backing. Roger wrote way less then half the songs of Supertramp, given that he left in 1983. You are fan boy and a liar.
Superttramp..... SCHOOL live
This song is a most classic ode to having to quit smoking weed for employment requirements. "The Friendly Stranger," "Mary Jane"
YES!!! great reactions buddy!! I can't wait for the Oh Darling song. My favorite song on Breakfast in America album.
I'm gonna (I'm gonna) I'm gonna (I'm gonna)
I'm gonna (I'm gonna) I'm gonna catch you lady
Got a good one that'll have you rolling....Great Mac Davis "It's Hard to be Humble"....live version is best 🔥
Great call on the frankie valli comparison !👍🏼
imagine buying and listening to this album as a 15 year old black guy in 1979! mind blown!
The falsetto type vocals. You should check The Bee Gees.
Good stuff Youngling...✊🏽💥✊🏽💥✊🏽🤟🏼🤟🏼
Do DREAMER!
I find listening to a lot of these in the car on the hiway or anywhere for that matter, is best hehe
My favorite Supertramp song is Bloody Well Right from a previous album. The hardest rock song they ever did. You'll love it!! Promise!
One of my favourites!!!
You want to watch "RUDY" Live. with the Train Ride video...... AWESOME
You saw Jersey Boys! That's awesome & good call with comparing the voices!
Best single note lead guitar solo ever.
I remember hearing this on the radio quite often back in "the day". I would generally listen to it if there wasn't anything better on another radio station. Personally, I prefer Supertramp's "Bloody Well Right" better.
Needless to say, from watching your reaction videos over the past few months now, it seems obvious that you really love great guitar playing.
And being that as it may, I would STRONGLY suggest you react to "Do You Feel Like We Do" from Peter Frampton's "Frampton Comes Alive" album.
His guitar playing is utterly fantastic! And back in the late 70's is when the "Heil" talkbox was first introduced. Basically, the Heil unit sends the sound of the guitar through a long plastic tube, and the sound of the guitar actually comes out the end of the tube. Then the tube was usually mounted to a microphone stand with the end of the tube next to a microphone. Then when the guitarist places the tube in his mouth, the sound of the guitar comes out into the cavity of his mouth. Then as he plays his guitar, he simply "mouths" the words he wants to say or sing, and the sound of his guitar coming from the end of the plastic tube becomes his voice. Several bands experimented with the "Heil" talkbox, like Joe Walsh in "Rocky Mountain Way", and even David Gilmour of Pink Floyd in the song "Pigs: Three Different Ones". But no one else seems to have achieved what Peter Frampton did in his song "Do You Feel Like We Do". And the best version of this song is without a doubt from his "Frampton Comes Alive" album.
I'll say this.....if you do this reaction and don't absolutely LOVE this song, I will never offer another suggestion.
I think that's still the biggest selling live album. I could be wrong because I've killed a few brain cells listening to frampton.. good stuff
You super know you love it !
Supertramp "It's Raining Again"
❤❤❤❤
That's just one of many songs from my generation that someone would/will {re}discovers on a lonesome jukebox standing off in the corner of a dimly lit, smoke filled tavern located on Hwy 232 in Somewhere, U.S.A.
Next........"Logical Song".
He already did that one a couple of months ago.
do even in the quietest moments
It's probably ironic considering the subject matter, but I always think of this song as one long buildup to the release of that climactic guitar outro.
The high pitch is the second singer singing the female’s point of view
You should do some "Who" songs. Try "Won't get fooled again" but the studio version, not the live one. The studio version is much better.
he already did "who's next" and "tommy"....do a search
@@flerbus Yeah, was not familiar on how to do that until recently.
nice to see the younger generation discovering real musicians. if you enjoy his vocals listen to rush
Are you talking about Jersey Boys?
Yes he is. :)
Rolling Stones?, I´m Waiting,, fantastic videos
Goodbye Toby!
Hello Margaret
This song is only liked by Supertramp purists. In its day it was not very successful commercially, but that does not stop it from being great. Rick Davies in its purest form
High pitched singing by men is called falsetto. Might be the same for women as well
I think for us women it's Soprano and men falsetto.Lovely to hear anyway.
Frank Valley? Are you kidding😢
soooooo original right?
I once burnt down the radio station after they prematurely cut the guitar part at the end.
You say something you'd hear in a diner, lol.
Rick Davies is singing about all the women he slept with, lol
You obviously live in a medical marijuana state. :) Nice that you are getting into weird, eclectic music from the past. Supertramp is a great band to dive into if you don't know them.
DO QUEENSRYCHE ALBUM REVIEWS...MOST ARE PROGRESSIVE AND FOLLOW A STORY LINE...THINK YOU'D LOVE THEM IF YOU LOVE THE BAND BOSTON...THINK OF BOSTON AS A METAL BAND....
I see only one problem with Supertramp..the songs aren't long enough!
That was actually 4 part harmony on the chorus.
This shows why music today is just crap.
