    Italian rations: made to feed the soldiers and keep them strong in the battlefield.
    US rations: if the enemy doesn't kill you, the rations will.

    I've been to Italy. They are obsessed with good food. I was on one of those bus tours and the petrol stations and rest stops with stores had near restaurant quality food. I'm Australian, and our rest stops tend to just be some toilets, park benches and a parking lot. Our petrol stations along highways almost never have anything other than fast food nearby. You know a country has prioritised good food when even their rest stops have good food.
    Also, their airport had delicious food everywhere. It was harder to find fast food than good food.

      @evanflynn4680 Год назад +5

      @gabrielesantucci6189 sure, it was all preprepared stuff, but the quality of the ingredients were pretty top notch. The sort of food in Australia in a similar setting would be something like McDonald's, or prepare sandwiches in plastic that had been sitting there all day. In Italy, you could get a sandwich made in front of you with lovely bread like a Turkish roll or focaccia, with a counter next to it that does orders for hot food, again, good quality ingredients. I got a parmigiana when I was there. Not as good as restaurant quality, but for a little place on the side of the highway that made the food in batches, it was pretty damn good.

    In Sweden we have normal "italian style" pizza and "american" pan pizza.. both are good(if made well), but it is important to say "pan pizza" if u mean american pizza because if u just say pizza in Sweden, people will think u mean real pizza
    Also we put all kind of stuff on the "real" pizzas in Sweden that would also make italians get prematurely grey hair

    The Italian field rations (I see they are identical to those of my military period 1982-1983) consist of a sealed aluminum package with three cardboard packages for the three emergency meals of the day, each package is usually all different depending on the day of the week, externally a colored sticker indicates the content, usually a different color every day. There are some packs that also have small plastic bags or mini glass bottles of liqueur called "cordiale" inside, which is used for cold, not always fire is possible, I don't know the US rations the girl shows, but ours were similar to the Spanish and French ones, all for 24 hours, the weight actually on the march is not felt also because the freeze-dried ones to use them you have to bring a lot of water in more and that weighs!, so better the K rations in three packs, at least for us it was like this. For the pizza no comment!! but it's not sacred, it could start a war even if involuntarily luckily he overlooked her expression a lot :)

    when I was serving in ex-Yugoslav army (next to Italy) in the mid 80-ties, our rations were called "dry daily meal". it was not so plush as the Italian solder just presented, but still.... it came in various combinations (six if I remember correctly) of a canned ham (like spam) or liver pate, a can of sardines or tuna, main meal with meat, like cabbage or pees with beef or beans with smoked bacon, a fruit or chocolate bar, some candies, a tea extract and a small package of honey, jam or "nuttela" spreads... the fun part was that not all of us got the same package which resulted in "lively" trading of "this for that" amongst the fellow solders 😋

    I think in Europe standards for food are quite higher. RUclips is full of films about this subject. Subsequently European soldiers won't fight on garbage.
    This Italian clearly tries to remain polite, which is a pity. Apparently he thinks the US-soldier might take criticism on the US MRE personally.

    I only did basic military service in the Bundeswehr (German Army). But I can tell you, the food was excellent. Not just food for survival, but also for mental well-being. Very varied. The Esbit cooker is a great invention and I think worlds healthier than chemical heaters. I love the "tank biscuits". If you get the chance to try it, I highly recommend it.

    So, Italian MRE are a single package for the entire 24 hours, American ones are different packages for each meal, they prefer it that way as it makes it more versatile: if you go out on a mission that will take 8 hours you just need to take 1 MRE with you, as it's the only one you'll need, and so you save on volume and weight. With the italian ones you have to take the entire set with you.
    I don't know if they changed it since I left the military 19 years ago, but that's how it worked here in Italy.

    Italian rations are very similar to those of the Spanish army.
    Cans and a lot of useful things, like tablets to make a fire, chewing gum, toothbrushes, water purification tablets, a stove...
    The biggest difference is that in the Spanish there are no cutlery. Every soldier is supposed to have in his equipment some kind of folding spoon-fork.

    I've watched some videos about k-rations (there are youtubers who do reactions on the best and worst) and I remember seeing a comparison between the US and another country and the food was more: for 24 hours you have a toast, peanut butter with a cracker and chili? Maybe I remember wrongly (regarding the video seen) but it would need a US soldier to explain it (that US ration really seems too poor quantity).
