It’s a really tough situation when you’re trying to build this relationship with your daughter and she still has so much love for her kidnapper and refers to her as “mom” instead of you. I can’t imagine how hurtful that must be for her. It’s almost as if it feels better making peace with the fact that she’s gone and may or may not be alive than trying to make peace with the fact that they’ll never have that mother/daughter connection and she’ll always have that with her kidnapper. There I was in stirrups, getting sewn up. As my baby, I have yet seen is being walked out of my sight. Luckily my husband was there and I made him follow her. For 20 minutes I had no idea where my baby was! I can't even imagine the panic of this young mother for all those years. I experienced it for 20 minutes and almost lost my mind. Way late, but I wanted to say that stories like this and Carlina White made me so scared that my baby would be taken and disappear when I gave birth. My (now ex) husband was useless and I was SO tired after labor and delivery I had no choice but to send my son to the nursery. Those nurses were SO open and transparent with me, showing me their IDs, working in pairs, bringing me down to the nursery to see all the babies and the secured doors that would keep my baby safe. Thank you, Jill, for letting this tired new mom get some rest. I was so lucky and my heart breaks for everyone in this story but Gloria. She deserved every day in prison.

It's messed up that the police used so many resources trying to make cases against the biological parents, instead of putting all their resources into finding Gloria and Kamiyah sooner. Kamiyah had to figure it out on her own, and take the action that led to her getting found. Our legal system really needs to rethink their priorities.

Kamiyah/Alexis will understand the depth of pain her mother went through when she has a child. We can imagine what it is like but never understand until we are a parent. When I was 12 my brother passed away from SIDS when he was 4 months old. My mother had a breakdown, began using and totally neglected her two living children, we were eventually taken into care. I was so resentful for years. I could not fathom how she could be so devastated by the loss of a child she barely knew to the extent of abandoning us. When I had my first son at 20, the second he came into this world, I thought of my mother and immediately understood her pain. Obviously, I could never fully understand but in that moment I let go of the resentment and rage.

My ex-husband abducted my daughter when she was 16 years old (we had 50/50 custody). He and his wife, who had just gotten a promotion that required relocation, moved her across the country. She "ran away" aka home, to me, over Thanksgiving break, telling me she didn't want to go back to live with him. When I attempted to fight for her in the courts, he was on the next flight here and his narcissistic sociopathic self sweet talked the judge (whose entire demeanor *completely* changed the moment that I started describing my ex... once the word "controlling" came out of my mouth, I knew I lost him. His ex wife must have called him controlling at some point, because he took it SO PERSONALLY, but I digress.) into letting him take her back that very day. After these years, though she hates her father for ripping her away from her family and school and friends, the only life she had ever known, it is where she graduated, works at a job she loves, has a wonderful boyfriend, etc. she has fallen in love with that state. He robbed me of those years and I haven't been able to forgive him for it.

They didn't try it anymore lol I don't know if you are planning on having anymore children, but push on them for what you want and they'll give in. I’m so glad that now (at least where I live), as soon as a baby is born they are “tagged” so to speak. Only hospital staff knows how to properly remove and disable the tag. If that baby leaves the hospital before mother and baby are discharged and the tag is disabled, alarms will sound and the whole hospital will be in lockdown until baby is located. Every time the baby switches hands, the tag is scanned and logged. Every time the nursery would bring my babies to my room, they would scan both my tag and the baby’s. Technology has come a long way.

I was only 20, just a few years ago, with my ex of almost six years.. he was indeed abusive, not physical until the last maybe year of the relationship.. but mentally/verbally/psychologically abusive, he took away my friends, eventually isolated me from my family.. and then left me literally 2 months after my miscarriage, I didn’t know while I was pregnant, but it was twins. One of the worst things and pains I’ve ever experienced. My mom also lost my baby brother, he was stillborn, 9 months, when I was 11, so I also experienced that. Irreparable damage. But I would never, ever, everrrr steal someone else’s baby, I would never take that from someone. Gloria has serious, severe problems. I didn’t know that my Dad wasn’t my bio father until I was 10 and my bio father wanted to meet me. He left me when I was 9 months old and emigrated to Canada. So to find out my ‘Dad’ was my stepdad I was devastated! He was my Dad even though we weren’t blood related. When I met my bio father I knew it hurt him that my stepdad was who I loved more than anything and I didn’t connect to him the way he wanted. It’s so confusing as you try to build a bond but it’s so difficult because the person who gave you love and support from a baby is the one you want in your life. Kamiyah’s bio parents how heartbreaking must it be for them to know that their baby loves the woman who kidnapped her and is struggling to build a bond with the people who loved her unconditionally for 18 years even though she wasn’t in their life. The father has a very soothing voice.
This story is heartbreaking though.. like what in the world!

I was adopted and traced my biological mum when i was 19. I was so blessed to be welcomed into her family with her husband my brother and 2 sisters. She was an amazing lady. I did however feel so guilty and disloyal to my adopted mum who raised me. I feel bad for the daughter the most. Her birth mum could have been more understanding of her feelings and the turmoil she was feeling. I feel bad for Gloria but she needed to pay for what she did. We cant have people taking babies from hospitals without giving consequences for doing so. My heart breaks the most for the daughter. 😢

Wow! I’m in literal tears reading all of the supportive words. It is a very lonely feeling and I thank each and every one of you for taking the time to share your struggles and strength with me. I am always here for you all too! Somehow, we’ll get through it I suppose
