I love the fact that this show displays the human sides of characters. Like the reasons why the ice princess is the way she is and she is asking how to love someone because she probably had bad experiences. As well being a senior asking a freshman for advice, which shouldn't matter anyway. Just different experiences.
She had such an attactive voice and personality. Very good casting to play a Southern Belle. I wished they would have made the show later on when she was like 25.
You know, when I first read David Copperfield as a freshman in high school, I thought, "Isn't this that magician who made the Statue of Liberty disappear????"
Me too. I wish it went longer, and then Dorothy Jane got older and Riley came back to visit. And maybe by then, Dorothy Jane would’ve met some local boy who likes her, but now Riley sees her differently too. Something like that.

We had one guy in my senior class date a freshman, it was widely accepted that he was a fucking creep. 4 years difference in adults is nothing but an 18 year old dating a 14 year old is weird.
Reilly's a pretty stand up guy. He knows its wrong and has been letting her down nicely this whole season. DJ needs to wake up and stop being so desperate.
I agree she needs stop harassing him but a 14 year old dating an 18 yr old is not a big deal at all. Men usually date younger women. It's not like he's 25.

He was overeager when we " kissed" I literally felt like I was being " choked" 😂 and his roommates kept telling him he was " wasting time" with me because I " wasn't going to have sex with him"( they were right) 😂 and he was also the only guy I had dated who had a car. He scared me because I was" cautious " and he drove with one hand on the wheel and another around me. I was such a " dork" that I was afraid he was going to have an accident 😂😂❤
I think the line "... they're gonna come and take me away," was sufficient. I don't think they want to get into politics, be partisan on such issues, or make Riley look like his decision was based on legal matters but on his personal feeling and belief. Honestly, if he did frame his rejection as just that he doesn't want to get in trouble with the law, he'd still be leading Dorothy Jane on, since she'd only hear that his stance isn't based on not wanting to be with her.

I mean, of course she spins it in her head as a romanticized "He just couldn't bear to accept our being apart," because her dead-beat dad put those thoughts in her head ... but man! did she take his words to heart. The point is, he can't win. No matter what Riley says to her, she can interpret it to mean what she wants to hear. This would be pretty bad, except that it really was Randall's fault in that case, so we can hate on him instead of Dorothy Jane, and she can still be the innocent sweetie we all know and love. But the truth that saying good-bye to her simply slipped Riley's mind really drove it home for her. There was no way she could cling to her hope that he was secretly in love with her after that. (Also, DJ doesn't appear in this episode.)

When she told Riley she loved him and later after he told her he didn't love her back and she was found on the porch crying she looked at her Mom as she came out the door that's how she was upset with him
Sad that it wasn't a smash hit. NBC fucked it up big time. Hope the executives who were in charge back then have sleepless nights regretting this decision.

There was nothing christian-themed about this show. It was pretty much like all the family sitcoms of the 90s.... Family Matters and Full House touched on middle class life in large cities. This show focused on the small town life of a lower income southern family.
