mld In terms of suspension, chassis, an braking, there is no comparison between 80s machines and those of today. However, with less than 8 to 1 compression, a long silencer, a relatively low peak rpm, and no power valve, a 1985 Honda CR500 made 62-63 hp. It was not until the past couple of years that the 450 four strokes managed to create that same 63 hp. The difference is, they need 12.5-13:1+ compression, big valves and overhead cam(s), aggressive tuning, and 9,500-10,000+ rpm to make that power. The old dinosaur CR500 engine makes its power without much stress. I think that if Honda still made two strokes today, there would be nothing that could touch one.

All that motor on that Harley ported built and still only making 75 horsepower and weighs a ton and can't make it up the hill just comes to show you two strokes are the answer!
Or not. Not everyone wants the loud, unreliable characteristics of two strokes. Not to mention the tiresome maintenance it requires to run properly. Harley is known for making really weak engines for their size. All the other 4 strokes in this video had really impressive power, that #142 Green bike had 220 horsepower for gods sake. Also, the 2020 model year 4 stroke dirt bikes have just +- 3 horsepower less than their equivalent size 2 stroke from 2020, for example, the 2020 Kawasaki kx250f has 44 horsepower, while for comparison 2019 KTM 250 sx has 47. The idea that 4 strokes are still slow, weak tractors is ignorant and sounds like someone stuck in the 90s when that used to be the case

I hate how on video these hills don’t look that steep when in real life they very much are and you can’t see it unless the just go to the top and look straight down and even then it doesn’t always show how bad it really is. Some of these courses are near vertical and look like a steep driveway on camera! 😂
I have a 1982 4 valve Suzuki 750 from factory 75 hp. Now 95 porting jetting pipe air cleaners. Runs like bastard
Two strokes are very reliable and much cheaper to rebuild. When jetted correctly last forever. New 250. 450 four strokes turn over 10 k rpm
Kaplan I must say “Thank You!” to you. Man I found your channel today and I subscribed instantly. You brought back my Whole childhood. I have a mini bike before I had a bicycle but since I was 12 years old I rode Open Class bikes starting with a XR500, then a CR480R , YZ490, and the last one I had was a water cooled KX500
Been watching you from Norfolk in England really enjoy seeing all the bikes you have and restore keep up the filming 👍Adam
15:34 relief when I hear that 2 stroke sound 😊❤😍
Thanks man. I enjoyed this video. I always wanted to try hill climbing. I think I'll put it on my bucket list.
European hill climb looks to be more extreme, than the american version
Lol I hope your kidding
You mean the cheese roll .
@@boondocker1219 haha americans huh. Just look up Andler/Schönberg Hillclimbing. Its in Belgium and the hardest hillclimb on earth. Im a local and every year only 1-2 big max out of 1000 make it to the top
@@yannhayon2796 lmao don’t be a fool
@@boondocker1219 just search for what o said youll see 😂
btw it has 140 Million views and is way more popular than american „hill“ climbing
Вот где мощь!!! Вот где драйф 👍👍👍
I'm real glad I found this channel, thanks Kaplan cycles

Did he say Leo from Motorcyclists Post? Leo Castell? My ole man used to race at Bridgehampton and Laconia, AMA CCS Road Racing series with him, his father Leo Sr. did an article about him, #922! Following the year after Leo won top amateur
local hill climb... omg I love mass central. No one else has the balls we do. Mud bogs hill climbs..... southwick. The state east and west. Bunch of pencil pushers!! Love them too but .... noise ordances and tree hugging to cut them down and sell by the foot. Omg I really really love MASS Central. From ct river to 495!
Me and a friend WAY back used to run a KZ 900 done up with 350+ HP that was street legal .Also used to drag that same bike . All we had to do was change Swing arm and tires and we had a BEAST of a hill climber . also it had an air shifter so a button was all it took to shift . talk abt FAST
350 hp out of a 900cc ?? Lmfao Good one .
Good family fun !! Captured by everyone's favourite dirt Dawg Kaplan America ,brilliant vid bro
I grew up around there and it was awsome. I want to see you have a husky 460. With a 6 speed transmission.
I used to go every year and all the swap meets Thompson, ct but now i just rebuild them.
It must be steeper at the top than it looks. fun to watch.
You can tell who the top riders are because they're in work boots and blue jeans.
The guy that ride his bike there was on a black Honda XR650R 👍
Kaplan asked him and he said he didn't although there was a KTM 790 adventure that a fella did ride there but due to the tyres it was running it made it half up the first hump, he'ss game for trying
