  • The cooling fan controller is a very common problem on 2000's-era Mitsubishi's including Lancer, Eclipse, Outlander, Mirage and others. I show how to diagnose and replace it.

    This module was a problem for me, but the coolant sensor and temperature switches were much worse. I believe the fact the faulty module was on all the time saved my life coz the other problems like coolant temperature sensor and temperature switch were also faulty. Never replaced for a decade it seems. Original parts but faulty.

    I got this fan for $15 somewhere. It could be cheaper. Like $12 but it's not a big difference. My old module was definitely an issue as they were ON when key is on ignition ON position as well and the temperature was cold under 15 degrees centigrade.
    However this faulty part saved my life. My ECT and temperature switch were also faulty.

  • @johnt.848

    I have a fan problem but not the same as you, only one fan works and that is activated by switching on the airconditioner.
    I tested the other fan by swapping plugs between the two and the other does power up so I have to find the cause of it not running.
    I'm hoping it's something simply like a faulty temperature sender unit which I'm going to swap out, I might do the thermostat while I have bits off to gain access.

      Im not 100% sure but i think these cars have 2 coolant temp sensors. One is for the gauge and the other is for the ecu which tells the fan controller when to run the fans. If you have access to a scan tool you can check what temp the sensor is reading. If its correct then the problem has got to be a bad fan controller

    Mines acting up wierd. It's not the cooling fans or the module. I'm assuming my relay fuse is bad it clicks but like when i pull it off and on it only clicks once. The reason I believe it's that. Is because i have a Autek scan tool and I'm able to perform tests to every part of the car and control it through my scanner. When i command to turn on the fans. It comes on. But with the car powered on engine not started. When i have it running it won't make the fans come on. Also when i have the car running from cold to normal temp to it's normal reading fans don't come on whatsoever even after 15 minutes running. No check engine lights nothing. So since i assumed maybe a faulty coolant temp sensor i bought one from Amazon but turned out to be faulty. Once i installed it and started the car. The fans came on but the check engine light came on saying bad coolant temp sensor circuit high. So now it leads to me that the relay fuse may be bad. I did forget to mention. I bought a control fan module like your video since it was cheap to get one but yet no fans come on whatsoever and now im on the wait for a new relay fuse. Only cost me 5 bucks so hope it's the issue. Good video by the way.

    • @alexsbikesandmotors
      @alexsbikesandmotors  2 года назад

      you could probably jump the relay with a paper clip or something to see if it's the problem. Also are you sure you replace the right coolant temp sensor? There are 2 on these cars. 1 is for the gauge and 1 is for the ecu which controls the fans. Good luck.

    • @mopardude707
      @mopardude707 2 года назад +1

      @@alexsbikesandmotors yes i did replace the correct coolant temp sensor on my car. There are two like you said one is near the thermostat which is the Guage and the other is near the cam or crank sensor which that one sends the signal to the radiator fans. I forgot to mention i bought two coolant temp sensors of the same on that side which one was good and the other was faulty. But the faulty one activated my fans but the check engine light came on saying the coolant temp sensor was bad high reading circuit. And also i noticed it was hard to start my car when I talked the faulty one. Once i put the newer one it started up fine but no fans same with putting the old one back on no fans either. No check engine light. True I'll try to see that method with the paper clip. I know on Hondas you can do that easily and the fans will come on. But not sure if this car can. Thanks for the advice

    • @alexsbikesandmotors
      @alexsbikesandmotors  3 года назад +2

      do what I did in the video. Check for 12v at the plug that goes into the fan controller. Then check for 12v at the plug going to the fan on the drivers side. If you've got 12v at the controller but not at the fan, then the controller is bad. If you've got 12v at the controller and at the fan but the fan isn't turning, the fan itself is bad. If you don't have 12v at the controller you've got a problem with a relay or a wiring problem.

      @@cablevlogs147 turn off ac and let the car idle. The fan should come on when the temp gauge gets a little bit above halfway. If its like 2/3 on the gauge and the fan is off the youve got a problem. Could be coolant temp sensor

    Thank you so much for this video. I have the same problem with my 06 Lancer Ralliart but I’m scared to order a non-oem part for such a crucial part. The original is $215, which is pretty expensive. Have you had any trouble since installing your particular fan control module?
