Vans has reinvented it's skateboarding line, COMPLETELY GETTING RID OF THE PRO SKATE line and reimagining it to create the Vans Skateboard Classics series. We got a couple pairs of the new Vans skateboard series to unbox, do a skateboard wear test, and let you know our thoughts!
We tested out the Vans Authentic, Half Cab, Slip on, and Skate Hi. Here's everything you need to know about the new Vans Skateboard Classics: how they fit, how they skate, our review of them in comparison to the old Pro Skate line, and some of the new tech and features which Vans have added in. Enjoy!
For more info and pics that show changes to the fit, durability and branding hit our blog post here: shop.shredzshop.com/blogs/blog/the-all-new-vans-skate-classics-shoes/
My favorite shoes are the Half Cabs, actually they were my first pair of Vans, they're so comfortable unlike the Authentics that squeeze my toes. Ugh!!!!
I'm kinda confused abt the slip on pros. Is it the same shoe on this video? And what about popcush and ultracush?
pretty good 10 minute VANS ad
He was embarrassed to mention the price.
Very in depth indeed
it was off the wall
Well... this is a video on vans so...
You told me to forget everything i knew about vans so I did. Then you tried to sell them to me but I didn't know what the hell they were
😂 😂
rip
Roflmaozorz !!!
What we were talking about?
@@i-never-look-at-replies-lol really bruh
As a Vans employee who works in a Vans store in a mall I can confirm malls have Vans Skate Classics
Thank you!
:( Malls have boards too but that doesn’t mean we buy them there! Support your locals and not the big franchises! Please and Thank You. :) (Some local shops are in malls/plazas so in that case OK)
@@memorysometimers3067 i dont get that logic. why cant i just simply buy at zumiez. my local skateshop is so far away from zumiez so zumiez is just where i buy my boards
@@theultimatespider-dude8507 people don’t realize that consumers are actually just going to purchase from whoever is the best option
As a customer: yes they have skate shoes
As a Vans sales employee this knowledge about our new product is super helpful for me, I love to provide info about our new pro shoes and models to kids looking for new skate shoes. my only complaint is that weird shine one from the sick stick.
Stoked you enjoyed and found the vid helpful!!! Yea, when I asked about the shiny soles, they said that's how the trendy "Vans Vault" line shoes are so they did them like that. And I guess it's kinda retro too, cause back when they were made in California, when they came outta the molds, the soles would be shiny, kinda cool! But to each their own!
Lmao... Sales rep that literally knows nothing about the product....
To be honest Vans are the ONLY shoe I’ve been wearing for years! Just so stylish and comfy!! 🤘🤘🤘
I think you'll be hyped on the new skate shoes!
if you think vans are comfy you should start trying on other shoes lol
@@jakeambrosia5126 thought the same lol
@@jakeambrosia5126 I generally wear inserts regardless of the shoe just because my job has me on my feet all day, but even in Vans it feels like walking on clouds
Same!
Wow actually needed this video. I've been trying to look up and figure out what they did that was so new. Thanks homies
Stoked you enjoyed! Let us know if you got any questions!
@@ShredzShop Are the new skateboard Sk8-hi shoes the same height as the Sk-8 hi Pros? Cause I don’t know if you ever noticed but the Pros were always slightly shorter then the normal Sk8-hi
@@sashiftpi Yo that's a good question! I went and checked heel to heel on a size 10 mens shoe. The SKATE Sk8-hi was 3mm taller than the normal Sk8-hi. Keep in mind with the 'Pop Cush' insoles, the height of the shoe might still not quite come up as high on your leg as a normal one, because the normal has a suuuuper thin canvas insole. Hope this helps!
vans, especially the pro line, have always been my go-to for both casual and skating, so i'm stoked to see this drop.
say what you want about vans, but they definitely care about the skating community 100%.
100% agree! 👊🏻
i use to skate the authentics and ppl would clown me now that these same out i"m gonna try a pair and see what's up
Just got a pair of half cab classics today and I have never gotten used to a brand new shoe so quickly. Skated for 3 hours today and they still look fresh out of the box. I totally get the hype
Awesome!! 🤘🏻 Let me know how they skate!!
How are they a year later?
you know you're high, if you're wearing airwalks -Jeff Grosso
Hahaha! Another reminder that Grosso is the man!
RIP
I must have been one high 6 year old
they also have durocap, wich is basically a toecap under the leather. they have little plates under the heel to prevent heelbrouse as well. dont forget this
Exactly
I never really knew much about vans being a ride or die for Emerica, but this was real good info to know. I never knew the difference between the skate vans vs. other ones, thanks guys !
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
stay gold!
Really great changes by a company I have so much love for. Great to see them innovating.
Stoked!!
Pretty sweet. I’ll never forget my first pair of Vans. Before malls had them, before everyone wore them. I had to beg my mom to take me to our local skate shop (Home Skateshop Louisville KY) and get a pair of checkered slip ons. Skated em to death. That was before there was even a Pro line dude lol.
Vans should continue sticking to their roots.
If they do so, they will still be here in 100 years for sure.
I hope so! They've been great to deal with an a little independent skateboard shop!
I bought a pair of these Vans skateboarding shoes, the wine red/black Pro models. The pop cush sole is so comfortable and my word they're durable. I used to skate the old school Vans and these are on another level, personally, I think I'm only going to wear these from here on out!
hyped you enjoyed them! 🙏
Bought two pairs of the skate half cabs in all black. Been waiting for some since I seen them as a kid( not that I ever seen em in this solid all black version when I was a kid, but always seen the silver and black or black and white half cabs. But never in solid black.) Very comfortable to walk in and skate in. At first I thought they were bootlegs because they didn't say half cab pro. But after doing some research I found out they were legit half cabs. Thought I had spent over $150.00 on fake shoes. I've been out of skateboarding for some time. But something about these shoes made me want to skate them. Bought a complete deck. Bought two pairs of the same all black skate half cabs. Haven't regretted a moment since I restarted.
Awesome!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Levi, you and the production team are putting out some great content. I really enjoyed a previous video explaining the different types of skate shoes and the technology they have. It would be awesome if perhaps you can partner with more brands in the future like you did in the Vans Collab to talk about the shoe. One thing I would like to see incorporated is mentioning with each shoe type what type of skateboarding it would come in handy for. For example this new Vans style is an all around perfect shoe for your everyday rider. For those of you who are more into jumping down huge gaps we highly recommend you check out Vans (Insert model here).
Another cool thing would be to do a review about the shoe and have a company spokes person share a little about the shoe itself, maybe they share a sneak peak of something they are working on that's still in the works.
I know there will be people saying who cares about the shoe technology just go skate, but some of us really like to have our things dialed down and would probably be willing to pay more if we knew what certain technology the shoe incorporates that makes the $90 dollar skate shoe you find at your shop better than that $50 dollar skate shoe you find at your mall or online that sell them to make a fashion statement.
Thanks for the kind words Ramon! Much appreciated and I'm stoked you enjoy the vids! We definitely are trying to do a little more working with the brands to have them give more insight into how they design stuff and with what in mind. We appreciate your input and ideas, always love hearing what people want to see on the channel!! Much appreciated!
haven’t even watched the video n i already know it’s gonna be straight heat
I figured you could skate any pair of Vans, but the ones specifically made for skating said “Pro” and had the Cush insole to prevent heal bruise and added comfort
You can for sure skate any pair, just the SKATE versions have a lot of added durability and support. Like if you get the regular canvas slip ons, you’ll put a hole in them pretty quick. Where as the SKATE version has a layer of soft rubber under the canvas, so when you kickflip through it your shoes still last for months.
This was an extremely informative video, thank you. I am 48 years old and getting into skating so will be my first pair of van's because of your video. THANK YOU
Let us know what you think! Love hearing people’s feedback!
After many pairs of Vans, after the Classics, Era, SK8, Kyle Walker 1 and 2, Chima's, I've settled on the Ave. They are it for me.
Great shoe! 👍🏻 I would love to see the ave sole on some more shoes going forward!
I ride bmx and Vans has always been one of my favourite shoes. They're super comfortable, grippy, and looks super awesome. I just hope the new ones have better quality control, because in the last 4 years I've had a few pairs that last for years, and few pairs that last 2-3 months...
Crazy! I guess first off, make sure whatever shoes you're getting are BMX versions (added durability specifically where you need it for BMX), and upgraded soles to be stiffer under your feet.
Second, if you feel like the shoes had something that was a warranty problem, Vans is really good at replacing shoes if it's a manufacturer defect, so hit them up for that!!
I just tried my first pair of Vans a month ago (The Gilbert Crocket 2's). I now own 5 other pairs of Vans.
Skating the pro classic half cabs right now, and I just got the newer version “skate classics” and side by side I can tell that the newer half cab feels like it has way more support!
Awesome! When I first looked I couldn't tell the difference until really examining, and then putting them on foot they fit nicer.
Like who’s the four assholes that had to go give thumbz down like do people realize the work that goes into one video? Show some fucking appreciation!
😂👊🏻thanks for having our back!
The vertical sole thing has always been there.. that's one of the reasons I like vans shoes, because it prevents rocks from getting stuck there.
will be welcoming these new shoes! can’t wait to skate em
Let us know what you think!!
i’ve been wearing the skate authentics & they’ve been great. although, i had to start buying a half size down because the heel felt a bit too roomy. other than that small difference, they’re my favorite shoe!
I love Vans!! I think I have 13 pairs now. There is nothing more Punk Rock like these shoes. I will rock Vans until I’m in a retirement home!!🤘🏾🎸🎶🎸🤘🏾
Ahah awesome!! 👨🏼🦳🏁
I skatebaord to BMX and mountain biking in Vans!
freaking Skateboarding HISTORY channel lol. amazing what you guys do! still waiting on the Lakai video :)
🙏🙌🙏 It’s lots of work! Glad you enjoy the videos!!
Lakai vid is coming! 🙏 Got a big list to go through
@@ShredzShop I’ll enjoy the rest of the content meanwhile! Love from Los Angeles California! Also, random question, what’s the proper way to store and stack multiple new decks at home? Graphic flat on floor, vertical? Trying to avoid warping
@@erickt9415 you can get plastic board bags, they’re better than the board wrap they come in (it can stick to the heat transfer graphics and destroy them). Then I usually stack them somewhere graphics up, but not to high of a stack. And somewhere that doesn’t have lots of temperature change (not near a window with direct sun, or furnace or anything). Hope this helps!! 🙌🙏
@@ShredzShop graphics up huh 🤔 that wouldn’t warp the concave? I think I’m over analyzing here I know
I've tried a few shoes and I always go back to sk8 hi pros because I love their kickflips. Proper shit for skating gaps but mint for everything else.
Love me some sk8-his!
You should do an episode on Converse shoes. Way back when Chuck Taylors were a heavy competitor for Vans. I still like high top Chucks more than Vans Sk8 Hi's The soles are tougher and the sides don't get blown out as quick.
I am not a big fan of the vans shoes but I have to say this video was very well made and entertaining. I love all your videos! keep up :)
I don't know how to skate and I don't pretend to.
I just like vans look and fit.
Love this review man! Keep it up 💯🙏🏻
Thanks Carlo! Glad you enjoyed!! 🙏🏻👊🏻
Vans will always have a few spaces in my closet. Hell I have had a pair of classics for 8 years and they still have plenty of life in them.
🔥 🔥 🔥
So this is the new Pro without saying pro ?
I guess this apply just to the classic ones like old skool, slip ones? For example my style 112 would have the same pro name
Just hope that the rubber is more durable
They are the new version of 'pro'. They redesigned the fit, durability and branding (tags, boxes etc). I think people will be hyped on how they turned out!
I actually bought 2 pairs of skateboarding vans they are really good for skateboarding and they are very comfortable
I remember being a kid skateboarding the vans Rowley XLT.
Loved the Rowley XLT, and Evan Hernandez used to always skate them and he was my FAV at the time!!!
The rowley magic cat was my first real board
I still have them skated lol
Thank youuuu for all this info ℹ️
Glad you enjoyed!! 👊
Got those yesterday they are the best
Stoked you like em!! Loving my skate half cabs rn!
Wow that's awesome!!! I used to be work on vans ph finally they did it!!!
👍🏻👍🏻
Oh damn they changed the pro version and made them better no way I gotta get myself a pair once my es skate shoes are worn out
Yea! I think you'll be hyped! Would love to hear what you think!
@@ShredzShop I actually am! Cause I own a pair of pro model half cabs but they rough a bit but hype to try these new ones
I used to like vans, I still do, but I used to too.
I agreed with this comment!
Liking most! Specially the fit fix, thats a huge thing! 👌🏼👌🏼 But man...a shiny foxing tape...please make it the usual!
Awesome! haha people have had mixed reactions to the shiny vulc. I'm sure it'll be a shoe by shoe basis going forwards (what looks best), but I kinda back it!
i have vans autenthic pro model and these issues are so true
i'm kind of mad i didin't see this video 2 months ago, before buying pros
These just came out March 4th! So nothing you coulda done!
Start stocking up on the Pro line, RIP Pro. Thanks a lot, Vans.
I think you will enjoy the changes they've made! Still the same protection and more durable!
@@ShredzShop If the price isn't the same and the comfort isn't there, I'm going to Converse. Forget Vans.
@@edwarddelacruz3923 Price is the same for a more durable shoe and I think the comfort should be better because the fit is improved! Go try a pair on at your local shop!
@@ShredzShop I don't have a local shop.the only one close to me is a Z*miez sadly. The only other places I know aren't actually gear towards Skateboarding specifically, they are more Ma and Pa sporting goods stores that don't carry those shoes. I'm sticking to Converse or going Anti-Meta with DC, Etnies or Es. Also, I custom paint sneakers and I mainly use the Pro Vans because the comfort and durability is more better. With that Checkerboard print, it throws off my art entirely. Converse has tons of work area and it isn't clogged with the Checker print. Bye-Bye Vans. See ya.
I exclusively wear vans as casual shoes. I only just recently started skating in a pair of half cabs! They are soooooo nice, but it’s a shame to ruin such a fresh pair of kicks. Hence why I would skate in other brands, generally the cheapest skate shoes I can find on sale 😂
I think these are rad for the added Durability, cause even if they cost a little more, they last a lot longer.
i skate in half cans too they’re awesome
I have struggled to find Half Cabs in my size in London lately, even online, could it be that they are waiting to drop these and a new batch?
There should be a bunch coming out in this drop! We just brought in a bunch of the classic black white ones, Im sure other shops will be doing the same! Try Slam City Skates?
@@ShredzShop Thanks for the resply I have tried their website but no half cabs whatsoever, will keep trying anyway!
Been wearing vans all my life. Still have two pairs of the Rowley classics
Love the OG Rowleys!!
Me too! Haha black/black and a blue pair
Those will always be my favorite I wish I would of got more pairs
I wish they'd re release the rowley xl2. Best shoes ever!
Thats a great shoe!
Probably last line of vans shoes i fell in love with. I honestly don't dig all the paper thin vulcanized slip ons they're known for right now. XL2 and XL3 were fuckin kickass. Cupsoled, good looking and durable. We need them back
Great video. I moved away from wearing classic style vans (I think my last ones were Era Pro) specifically because the inside (area between the insole and top) was too short and they would hurt the bridge of my foot after a while. If they tried to make that area bidder, I’d definitely want to give them another try.
My first skate shoe was Vans Chili Red Sedans, they got me through ollies, drop ins, reverts, 50-50’s and a accidental rock to fake. Good times 🥺Unfortunately the waffle is flat and down to the last layer of plastic 😂 Now I’m retiring them for a pair of Sk8 Hi Pro’s, did a few ollies and I swear my feet didn’t leave the board, so grippy I love it
🔥🔥🔥
I always go with the basic sk8 low (the "fashion" ones) cause they're always on sale for like 50 bucks 😅 they don't get a lot of love but they work for me 🤷🏼♂️ quite durable actually
Hoping that vans will also realise new designs in Philippines
These will be coming to the Philippines!! Should be there soon!
These look promising, I'll probably test a pair when my era pro's wear out
Love hearing people's feedback!
Vans has always been my most bestest favoret shoe. Slip ons 💯😎◾◽◼️◻️🔳🔲🔳
The new Vans Skate Slip Ons, fit and look muuuuuch better than the old 'Pro skate' slip ons!! You'll be hyped!
It’s all I skate and wear, but I do wish they focused more on on core core skating pro models, more Andrew Allen’s, more Ave shoes, Aiden Mackey… also, why do many canvas pros?? Can we pleeeeeeeeeeeease get more full suede authentic hogs in all the colors???
This video is super super helpful.
Thanks Dean! Stoked you enjoyed!
@@ShredzShop yeah man. You all covered everything from top to bottom. Even the little bit about the red Vans logo on the back heel is super helpful. Makes it real easy for me to spot. Again Thx.
I remember the puffy tongue vans from the mid to late 90s. They were thee best for skating and comfort. I cant find them to save my life. Not sure if they even make them anymore. I don't remember the name.
I guess i try and google image search again.
I wouldnt mind some MARC JOHNSON reissues either from E.
Edit , the closest ones i can find are VANS LOWLAND.
Ordering a pair asap
The Vans Half cabs are a great shoe for a puffy tongue shoe. I just started skating a pair and love em!
the kyle walker pro model has a puffy tongue and puffy ankle support. probs my favourite shoes to skate in. i just ordered a pair of old school skate classics. i loved skating the old skool pros but the sole didn't last long enough. hopefully these last longer :)
I skate the Era and Old Skool shoes alot. Price is good and they last pretty long.
🙌🏻👊🏻
Love this
Just got a pair of the glow in the dark checkerboard ones and gotta tell you they are the most comfortable vans i have ever had. The comfort is super important to me because i am honestly a bigger guy. I didnt even realise they where the skating ones until i watched this video xD. But hot damn i dont think i can go back to any other kind of shoe... well maybe i would still wear the new chucks or some pf flyers. Although i do wish they would sell their cush insoles as well so i could put them in my regular old vans.
I just found out that they also rename the shoes from pros to skate.
Og Ex: old skool pros
Gotta love vans
Did everyone forget about the vans chukkas way too fire
I hope they have a good feel when skating
Love to hear what you think!! 👊🏻🙏🏻
I hope they drop some Skate Classic sk8 mids because I can’t find a pair anywhere
They are coming soon!! And they're getting renamed the "Grosso Skate Mid", so Grosso's son is going to get some royalties from it! Win win!
@@ShredzShop that’s great to hear! Let’s goooo
I like the kyle walker pro the first shoe it's dope
That’s our most popular Pro Model with Vans right now! 👍🏻👍🏻
I have those Rowans for my next shoe. 🤘
been skating em over a month and theyre holding up better than any vans ive ever skated
@@ilovegoregrind Oh sick. Thanks I look forward to it. I've got the TNT prototypes and I love them so I was happy to have the Rowans for next.
Yeah man!
That's my comment.
we appreciate this message!
I been wearin vans for 20 years
Half cabs for high school basketball
Oldschools and halfcabs for long boarding
Slip ons for on the water
They are the best shoes but they dont do mucj for your knees and back
This saved me, almost bought a regular pair...
haha rad!
Yeah I’m definitely gonna try and snag a pair of the slip ons tomorrow. I was literally looking at snagging a pair of the pros, when I saw this video. I knew it was a sign, I’d like to know if there dropping the black tomorrow too. But ether way I’m trying to cop these...
Let us know what you think!!
Yo you try these out? The vans site doesn't have the best reviews on them so far
@@RogerRabbitt Weird, we've been skating them and enjoying them, The main complaint from people has been the shiny soles.
Good informations, thanks !!!!
Really wish vans would make more cupsoles. The halfcab as a cup sole would be money
I've been saying this FOR YEARS! If they put the waffle cup sole on a half cab (flattened it out so it didn't look all tech), it'd be a dunk killer.
@@ShredzShop straight up. I really like the eS accel slim mids. But they aren’t exactly easy to source anymore.
Var flip to 50-50 to 5-0, nice Levi
surfy 🏄
Lollllll I’ll take what I can get
I need in on those buttery ass Sk8 Highs or maybe mids but holy shit those are fckn insane!!
So first off love the video so much info never knew about Vans so thank you for the quick lesson but im trying to get a pair to skate in but my local skate shops do not carry Vans sadly. I never thought that would even be a thing so im forced to go to the mall bc i need to try them on before bc Vans fit me differently than other skate shoes. What would you do if you were in my . . .shoes lol .. The next closest skate shop is almost 2 hours away .
I lowkey did not know that there were specific Vans shoes for just skateboarding lol
now ya know! 😉
Me watching this riding the vans skate classics slip ons the same ones u have on
🔥 🔥 🔥
that's actually dope
Great vid!
Thanks Brenn!
I’m currently skating the vans rowan pros
Like em?
@@ShredzShop yes and with the new team stuff how do they focus on durability yet wear u do ollies is still canvas on the old skool pros
The naming is unfortunate though for the Sk8-Hi. I called the Vans store to see if they had my size. Guy was like yeah we have Skate High Tops. I’m like, no I need Sk8 Hi Pros, In the end we figured out they are called “Skate Sk8 Hi” which isn’t the best naming for those.
haha yea a few people have mentioned that
How does the width of toe box on the authentic skate compare to the regular and pro? The toe box on the pro was more narrow than the original authentic but I appreciated the extra support of the insole on the pro. Hoping these fit more like the originals but with the added comfort from the removable insole.
I'd say the toe box fits similar to the Pro versions. The real change is on the heel and how these fit around your achillies!
I'd still maybe hit your local shop to try on a pair though!!
Sick!!!
🏁🏁🏁
I got the old skools In black with gum color outsole
🔥🔥
Av classic was the one until they changed it 👳 . . Era pros are cool too and comfy to skate in .
They fixed the raising of it and fixed the super thick insole. I gotta cop a pair. I would skate the classics even though the ripped fast asl just because of the sole problem.
I would kill for a pair of the ankle guards.
Haha me too
gotta get me some!!!!
I was super hyped on these until I realised they only come in white.
they have black too
Correct!
@@Stepfkrver Yeah, I found them later but had already bought the Sk8 Hi Pros by the time I did. 😩
The advertisement on the Vans Australia site only links to the white versions, and so I only noticed the black, and black/white versions when I was looking through for some other stuff, but by then it was too late.
I probably would have got the Sk8 Hi Pros anyway, as they were on sale for two thirds the price of the Skate Sk8 His, and they come with the Pop Cush insole too now.
That was interesting I knew none of that!
After reading comments. I get it now. Pro isn’t the “pro” version anymore it’s now skate. Kind of confusing. Before you could tell somebody “buy the pro version of vans. They’re better” and now you have to say “buy the skate version”
And if they end up getting “sk8 hi” you need to say get the “skate sk8” and it’s just confusing. And the bmx hi is still pro? But it just doesn’t say pro anymore?
l prefer the old skool vans because they're comfortable
Thanks for the feetback
Yes! Thanks for the don't go to the mall go to your local skate shop comment
Of course!
Are the style 36 Decon sfs a skate vans because I skate those and feel like style 36 are the best vans for skate and looks
Rowan Pros are the best! I need in on these though!! Thay grey with white and blue color way is fucking so clean.
Yea the Sickstick rubber on the soles of the Rowans is going to be on all these which got me pretty hyped!
So how does the fit compare to the (what appears to be discontinued) pro line? I never had a problem with the pro sizing but am wondering if I should change size when I order the new skate old skool.
Sizing should be exact same, but your foot fits much deeper in the shoes, a much better fit.
