Wow, Sam I am sorry you were treated like this. You deserved better! So glad you’re finally your own boss and can do what you want now and be comfortable with your space. So excited to see a sit down video! I’ve missed your sit down videos 🫶🏽 would love to see more of them with life stuff, fav products, podcast stuff, salon stuff etc!💕
The way you transitioned into your own suite and have been as busy as you are says a lot about what you brought to the business. It’s unfortunate that it wasn’t valued. As someone who works in corporate, I always feel undervalued and my skill set is undermined. So it’s common everywhere. Nice to see you happier. I love the eyeshadow ! 😁
I’m so excited to see a sit down video! I haven’t commented in forever but pleeease do more story times from your last salon as much as you feel comfortable with ☺️
LOVE your videos! What a terrible experience in your last salon and that you now have the peace of your own space. Bought the Banish gel fighter for a dry spot on my face. AMAZING!!! Thank you! You are authentic and beautiful.
I love these type of videos. I'm so glad you have your own space to express yourself freely. I have two boys, and I love how much I've learned to build a relationship as they grow. I took parenting classes because I was scared to be a "bad mom." I hope the very best for you! You deserve it all 🤍
I always watch your videos but never comment. But hearing the nightmare the last salon was makes sense. I honestly think they knew you did social media and did not like you. People get weird when they know that. They probably thought you didn’t need the money. How unprofessional of them. So happy you have your own salon suite now. ❤
Love a good sit down Q&A! I vote the next one you spill the FULL tea on your last salon. I bet it would make a great tipsy tea time lol. Also love the look! Casual yet still very blingy for the holidays.
I feel you about not knowing where to move where you will have the best quality of life. Hubby and I are childfree and currently live in a blue state, but it has the highest property taxes in the US, so that's a major disadvantage to buying a house here. My ex and I had planned to move near family in Florida. He's deaf and I was working towards my ASL/English interpreting degree. One of my professors had worked in Florida and said it was the wild west down there. Companies would hire people as interpreters that didn't even take ASL classes, let alone graduate from interpreting programs. "Oh, you know some signs, welcome aboard!" The lowest of standards. I shudder to think of the quality of services those poor deaf people have to deal with.
I love these old school RUclips sit down, spill the tea type videos- nostalgic 🤣 Also, the best advice I ever got when it came to kids was, “your fertility is NEVER guaranteed. If you want children, have them”. Guess what? I had a baby a year later 🎉 Life isn’t guaranteed one day, let alone our fertility. I’m all for people’s opinions on whether or not they should have children (everyone is different and different reasons) but I just knew that deep down I wanted children and for whatever reason that really stuck with me. Anything that’s materialistic, we have some sense of control. We can control our finances, what items we purchase, what homes we live in ect… but not our fertility. Thank you for another great video!
Aw, congratulations! It's so true though. I try not to plan things further than a few months at a time, because life in general is so unpredictable. It's a lot easier and more peaceful to just go with the flow.
My sister just got her teaching degree, years of hard work I’m so proud of her. When you mentioned that you don’t need a degree to teach in NC I was like 😳 I agree that’s wild lol
Omg!!!! You are so beautiful Sam! You dont even know the glow you have girl! Im trying to get my Boyfriend to Bring me to NC for a Vacation and get my hair done by you in the next couple years when the opportunity comes. I always tell him its on my bucket list to get my hair done by my favorite Vlogger lol.
Oh I was not expecting you to say you would like to have kids 🙊 but I am glad you are happy and kids can be such a joy...maybe you could then move closer to your parents...grandparents are great if you have them close 😁👍
The first commission salon i worked at was exactly like the last one you worked at and it makes me really sad because that was my dream salon i built it up so much as this wonderful thing and i felt so uncomfortable every day and like the bosses could’ve cared less. I don’t do hair anymore because of that and it’s sad that it ruined it for me
I'm so sorry that you had such a horrible experience from the very beginning. I promise there are some really wonderful and supportive salons out there, so if you ever have the desire to come back to this industry, don't let the few bad apples discourage you!
I’m a booth renter in NC. I’m originally from Ohio. That’s why I relate a lot to you! Been doing hair since 2009! I’m an outsider, viewed as a $ sign even tho you only see my name in rave reviews etc. I don’t hang out with the other 5 because I have a nonverbal 7 year old and when I’m at work I’m there to work, when I’m off I go home to help my husband with my son. It’s sad but it is what it is. Happy to have your videos to know I’m not alone. I’m comfortable in the uncomfortable-ness if that makes sense. Being 36 now, I give less thought into my feelings & I don’t get so offended like I used to. Still sad though. Women should uplift eachother. Not be jealous haters 😂
Yes!!! That's the best way to put it. Honestly though, as long as it doesn't affect your work or your sanity, it's whatever. And I can relate to that feeling, because if I was booth renting and had a space of my own to work in, I might have made it work and stayed longer.... maybe lol.
Ok so my daughter is a junior in high school and is going to a school called west mec. She goes for hairstyling and next year when she graduates from high school she will also take her state boards to be a licensed hairstylist....question is.. should she get her full cosmetology license and do another 600 hours or go right into a salon without the extra schooling? Which would benefit her in the long run?❤
I think hands on experience is always better, but she has to make sure she's in a salon that actually wants to TEACH her and support her. I've seen sooooooo many salons that take advantage and just use assistants and new stylists for the dirty work (cleaning, blowdrying, doing the things no one else wants to do) and keep them stuck for over a year, without learning anything new. She needs to make sure wherever she goes is very clear on what she will be doing on a daily basis, what education she will receive, and when she will get a chair of her own. Salons are also notorious for making employees work extremely long hours without any real lunch breaks and being sketchy with pay, so make sure they are following state laws when it comes to that stuff too!
@@styledbysamvay thank you so much! So does she need to do continuing education after the hairstyling license thru her current school? I think she said it's for nails and face stuff?
Ew the last salon what the heck ?! How immature of that owner to treat u that way. That is embarrassing on her part., that salon as a whole lost an amazing hairstylist and friend. Regardless, I’m glad that the situation is over and you in your own area. I always wish I could come. See you one day to do my hair lol I feel like we get along so well and when you moved out of PA, I was so sad because I am from Pittsburgh so yeah but you’re thriving now so that’s amazing. ♥️
Good Morning Sam! L’Oréal actually owns Lancôme, and a lot of these products are exactly the same except for packaging and sometimes fragrance. I need to try that mascara, and I’m genuinely very proud of you have watched your channel since the beginning! These videos are nice where we ask questions and you spill the tea, sorry about the last salon experience sounds like they had their own little clique and your right, when I get stressed I have neck and shoulder pain too. You will one day make and amazing mom😊❤
Thank you, Marsha! :) L'oreal owns A LOT of brands. It's pretty crazy when you do some digging, because I'm sure there's a lot of products that are the same, but listed at significantly different price points simply for the name and packaging.
I'm choosing to view it as a blessing though, because that experience is what ultimately gave me the final push I needed to go off on my own, and now I'm happier than I've ever been! So it ended up being a good thing :)
Not to be that girl but North Carolina is ranked 21 overall in education and you must have a masters degree in order to teach ❤ hope that eases your mind some!!
It does! I definitely shouldn't have spoken about the state as a whole. I was referring more specifically to the area I'm in, based on what I've been told by clients who are teachers and/or have children. And it's no fault of the educators, it just sounds like they are overwhelmed by lack of resources and funding. All things I would need to look into further when the time comes, so I shouldn't have stated anything as fact.
It sounds like you were being used just as another source of commission income for the owner. I’m sorry that happened to you, but I’m glad you’re in a better workplace now!
My early twenties I didn’t want kids either but when my best friend had a baby I tried to babysit all the time because she was dealing with postpartum depression. And that’s when I realized I did want kids, I was just really scared of the responsibility.
Healthcare concerns in NC? We have Duke. I am receiving the best care for gynecological cancer. I gave birth here. Wanting to live in a blue state - I respect that. But kindly don’t spread misinformation about healthcare. Kids not receiving education? Bad teachers? Do you think us parents raising kids here dare not care about healthcare and education. I respect and support your blue state decisions - please don’t speak lies about NC. TY.
I'm not saying that's the case right now or everywhere in the state, so excuse me for misspeaking. Given everything that has been going on since the overturning of Roe V Wade and with this country's politics in general, living in the south makes me nervous for the future, in all aspects, especially as a woman. And more specifically, in Wilmington, I've heard endless stories from clients about bad experiences with the healthcare here, and most of the public schools here aren't great (based on what I've been told). It's also (again, here in Wilmington, not North Carolina as a whole) not as diverse. I really do love living here and don't mean to speak badly about it. It just isn't where I see myself staying forever. That's all.
@ I am sad you buy into the media narrative. As a brown immigrant divorced woman in the South, I only have amazing stories to share. There is so much more to the South than CNN and MSNBC has to say. That would be like me being terrified of moving to a blue state. Especially the tales from CA. I am sure it is not as bad. People are people. Thanks for clarifying. I wish you the best in your future.
I don't consume news media. The "narrative" I buy into is based on my own experiences and first-hand accounts I hear from real life people. Not all experiences will be the same, because we are human and everything is so nuanced! People can be shitty everywhere, and people can also be lovely everywhere. I shouldn't make generalized statements, and I'm very happy to hear that you've had a positive experience so far. :)

Airing dirty laundry would be sharing specific stories of things that happened or reading text messages that were sent to me and other employees. To me, that would be extremely unprofessional. However, I didn't feel valued, and it's fair for me to feel that and express it. Sure, things seemed great in the beginning, and I was happy to share that, but it changed over time. There was a lot that I chose not to share online, but if you really watched my vlogs over the past year, the undertone was there.
