    After watching this, it reminded me of how great it is that I work at a school that provides free dental care to students from families who are unable to afford it. I really ought to go ask if they can do the same for staff too, since I haven't been to a dentist in years as well.

      To dietotaku: I know the feeling. I tried to have dental work done for years, but was unable to find a clinic that would be willing to work with me. Oral hygiene is extremely important, as poor oral hygiene can negatively impact your overall health and wellbeing. This is very true. There have been many cases where people died because they’ve lacked going to the dentist or brushing their teeth.

  • @namelessdork2256

    Yeah, funny how one little thing can snowball into an avalanche. Even if they aren't related, poor oral hygiene could lead to heart problems, infections in various parts of the body, and even several cancers.
    The human body is fascinating, but scary.

    There are free clinics in many cities, but you will likely have to prove financial hardship in order to receive free dental care. Even if you do qualify, the care might be limited. For example, if you have an abscess, you might not have the option to have endo (root canal); you may only get the tooth extracted. It's not perfect, but it keeps you out of the ER.

      @@makushinclimb Liberalism is stupid. There are some liberalists here, but they think they can do better than the liberalist countries. Liberalism in its purest form means that people have to finance their own cancer treatment and buy their own wheelchair. That is not freedom, that is disgusting. Low taxes means that everyone must pay everything for themselves. Education in Norway is free. The idea to have to pay for kids education is just ridiculous. Education helps against crime and helps people to learn how to be useful. There will always be some who the education does not succeed with. But better with some, than a system wich systematically produces criminals.

    As a kid, my mom really didn’t stay on top of whether I brush my teeth or not and I remember I skipped so many nights of brushing my teeth. My mom also never really took me to the dentist as she never really saw the need for it when I went to the dentist for the first time I was 16 yet they were able to confirm that my teeth were extremely healthy and said that I probably never even had a cavity. I was shocked that, even though as a kid, I remembered skipping, brushing my teeth so many times, because I was able to get away with it that my teeth were still perfectly healthy The only thing that the dentist said was wrong with my teeth is there’s not a lot of room in my mouth for my teeth to grow in which is why one of my baby teeth that I lost when I was eight still hasn’t been replaced by the adult tooth because there’s no room for the adult tooth to come down. I can feel the tooth trying to come through my gums but it’s literally just the tip of the tooth that is broken through the gums. They can’t come down anymore because there’s no more room in my jaw my dentist told me I probably will have to get some kind of Invisalign or some thing.

    The lack of dental insurance is a familiar refrain at dentists' office. It may be some consolation that there are dentists who appreciate the financial barriers to effective oral hygiene and will accept a payment schedule. I've also noticed dental clinics that offer subsidized basic care. Please contact your state or local government office for information.

    • @McSpaanky
      @McSpaanky 2 месяца назад +1

      There are low cost dental services, some families utilize the free cleanings schools offer once a year. I understand that’s it’s expensive, I don’t have a job or insurance right now, but if you don’t instill basic hygiene in your children, it has consequences. Most of the problem can be avoided my brushing and flossing. My mom is a dental assistant so she drilled it into me and my sister by showing us severe tooth decay. I have yet to have a cavity and I’m 28.
      I also understand the mental and physical health issues that can result in someone not having good dental hygiene. I hope that anyone who is going through hard times get better.
