Historiek is very woke. Nearly all the time in the last 800 years Dordrecht was rich, but not in the period between roughly 1780 and 1820. People very extremely poor, many very hungry, many diseases. Poor people died. No trade because 4th English war and the revolutionary and Napeolonic wars. Government in Dordrecht was very bureaucratic and sclerotic, lots of nepotism, high taxes. The proverb goes back to this period.

there are several roman towns that are in the current provinces of north and south holland that date from the Roman times.:. Rijswijk, Voorburg. leiden. Archeological finds at the gezondheidspark area in Dubbeldam, on the Island of Dordrecht can be dated back to Roman times.

Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands, that is correct, but the oldest city of Holland is Dordrecht. Dordrecht is located in Zuid Holland. I should know. I was born there.
Here's another source...Wiki could be wrong or right, depends how you look at it. "The first city to receive city rights from the Count of Holland was Geertruidenberg in 1213. Dordrecht followed in 1220. The inhabitants of Geertruidenberg profited from the rights granted. Trade increased enormously, because the Count granted the inhabitants freedom from paying tolls and at the same time imposed the obligation that certain goods could only be traded in Geertruidenberg. In this way, Geertruidenberg was able to grow into a regional centre and an important Dutch city, which, together with other cities in the county, had a say in the administration of the entire area. Representatives of the Dutch cities met in Geertruidenberg several times. The Count built his own house in Geertruidenberg, but also owned similar houses in other cities. However, the centre of gravity of the County of Holland shifted to the north, so that the importance of Geertruidenberg decreased considerably. Geertruidenberg remained part of Holland until 1813. In that year, the provincial borders were redefined. Geertruidenberg, Holland's oldest city, was now part of Brabant".
During the French occupation the Westhoek with Geertruidenberg was part of different departement from the former Holland regions. . BTW also the French were responsible for cutting het graafschap Holland (county of Holland) into Noord- and Zuid-Holland. If you ride the train from Dordrecht to Breda you can see the change of a Hollands landscape north of the little river de Mark to the Brabant landscape on the south bank.
@@buncharted Geertruidenberg has older city rights, but is now part of Brabant. That city is worth a visit (train to Breda, bus to Geertruidenberg) Some of their fortifications from the 17 to 19 century are still intact
Dordrecht was founded in 1120 AD. It already had city rights before 1200. In 1220, Dordrecht was given more extensive city rights as the second city in the Netherlands. (Count Willem I). Dordrecht is therefore the oldest city in Holland (not in the Netherlands). In the 14th century, Dordrecht was an important transshipment point for wine, wood, grain due to its strategic location. Justice was also administered there. Many warehouses and street names are reminders of this time. Other historical events include: The first and last Florijn (guilder) were minted in Dordrecht. (1338 - 2001) The Statenbijbel was written in Dordrecht. (1618, Synod of Dordrecht).
@@buncharted Who learns you that there is such a place as "Holland"? 😊 South-Holland and North-Holland are just 2 provinces, just like Gelderland and North-Brabant etcetera. Holland is just another name for the Netherlands as a whole, and is used a lot by the Dutch soccer supporters. "Hup Holland!".

Dordrecht oldest city in “Holland”, Nijmegen the oldest city in the Netherlands going back to roman times.
It is an endless discussion if dordrecht is the oldest city or nijmegen
there are several roman towns that are in the current provinces of north and south holland that date from the Roman times.:. Rijswijk, Voorburg. leiden. Archeological finds at the gezondheidspark area in Dubbeldam, on the Island of Dordrecht can be dated back to Roman times.
Why didn't I get a notification!?!!!!

Well, de 'Kloostertuin' isn't that much of a secret. You should go there on Kingsday ... packed with children selling their toys and junkstuff ...
Your Dutch is getting better. All you need is practice 😉
I am surprised to hear how good your Dutch already is! You are using the let's say ' street-Dutch' and not the official Dutch often taught at the courses.
Good for you ❤
It's pronounced Ma Baker the English way. Like the American story and the Boney M song. It's a pun.
Hoe lekkerder het wordt*
oops!
Have you met the "Kloostertuinkatten" yet? 😆
no! real cats, i hope?
Yes, they (2 cats) always beg for fish on saturdays😊 We call them the Kloostertuinkatten.
At 2:25 I definitely get how the bakery got his name, but I really can't stop singing this song while watching your video further on. 😉 ruclips.net/video/9c5yPIQ3LQI/видео.html

hoe* (and not the English version)
Hoe dichter bij Dordt, hoe rotter het wordt.
Anyway, keep it up!
Holland was something else back in the days...
*Zuid-Holland
No Brokking Hazelnoot gebak??? Man you're not prepared for a Nootgeval.... (Brokking = Banketbakkerij)
@the end lol forget I said anything 😆
Always love the innuendo since Michelle reminds me of an ex-girlfriend. Is that a bad thing?
Nijmegen is the oldest city in Holland I heard
nijmegen is in gelderland :)
Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands, that is correct, but the oldest city of Holland is Dordrecht. Dordrecht is located in Zuid Holland. I should know. I was born there.
@Mesmancer I was jus testing them I used to live in sliedrecht
Maastricht also claims to be the oldest city in the Netherlands.
@cyrielwollring4622 I bet somebody could find proof who is right
Here's another source...Wiki could be wrong or right, depends how you look at it.
Mochi. Uncooked pizza dough. Mmmmmm. 🤢
Jullie hebben het erg vaak over eten. Dat is wel wat oppervlakkig.
it's literally a food tour video
@@buncharted LMAO ik ga stuk
Wat een zeikertje kijk dan niet 😂
@@buncharted 🤣 of course, and I missed visiting KFC and McDonalds 🤣
Doordrecht isnt the oldest city in the netherlands, its not even in the top 5
it’s the oldest city in holland, not the netherlands
Als ergens ooit eens een Romeins fort heeft gestaan, maakt dat nog geen stad.
Other historical events include:
The first and last Florijn (guilder) were minted in Dordrecht. (1338 - 2001)
The Statenbijbel was written in Dordrecht.
😉😉
ma baker .....
